Steelers legend QB Ben Roethlisberger isn't a fan of trading for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins.
Multiple insiders have linked Cousins as the Steelers' ideal Plan B if their Plan A — Aaron Rodgers — retires in 2025.
On the most recent episode of his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, co-host Spencer Te'o and Big Ben's personal chef discussed the possibility of Pittsburgh acquiring Cousins — which had the former Steelers QB shaking his head in disapproval.
When Te'o asked Chef Evan and Big Ben if they liked the idea of trading for Cousins, here's what Roethlisberger had to say:
"I would've [liked trading for Cousins] earlier, but not now at this point."
Earlier in the episode, Roethlisberger had argued that the trade was seemingly possible due to Atlanta's desire for trade partners to eat over $20 million of Cousins' guaranteed money.

Is Mason Rudolph an Adequate Backup Plan for Steelers?

Is Mason Rudolph an Adequate Backup Plan for Steelers? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The point of quarterback purgatory is that it is, by definition, nearly inescapable. So it's no surprise the Pittsburgh Steelers are approaching another season with muted expectations and questions under center. Advertisement This time around, the Steelers let two acceptable but underwhelming options walk in free agency. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields found new homes in East Rutherford, signing with the New York Giants and New York Jets, respectively. That left Pittsburgh with all of its eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket, an unenviable position. As Matthew Stafford stayed home, and Sam Darnold and Geno Smith moved elsewhere, options quickly came off the board. Rodgers has been penciled atop this depth chart for weeks, if not months, but pen hasn't hit paper. With OTAs ongoing and training camp around the corner, other options must at least be considered. Insider Gerry Dulac revealed on 102.5 DVE what the Steelers' backup plan for Rodgers is, and it left fans wanting more. Advertisement 'I believe and have been told that if it's not Aaron Rodgers that we'll find a veteran quarterback to backup Mason Rudolph,' Dulac said. Rudolph was signed to a two-year, $7.5 million deal early in free agency, essentially to be the starter in the worst-case scenario where established veterans go elsewhere and Rodgers steps aside. He's a viable backup who has never looked like a quality option for long stretches in the NFL, and his most recent work with the Tennessee Titans helped pave the way for Cam Ward. Starting Rudolph wouldn't be a sign that Pittsburgh is 'tanking.' That simply doesn't happen in the NFL, and Rudolph is still competent. It would, however, put a dent in the small chance the team had of winning a playoff game in 2025. With Rodgers, the plan would be to optimize his strengths to get average play to support a talented roster. Rudolph's fate would be a weekly game of 'hide the quarterback.' Advertisement Pittsburgh went down this path knowing there was a real chance Rodgers would step away, and that starting Rudolph would be more likely than trading for, say, Atlanta Falcons veteran Kirk Cousins. That's telling of the team's interpretation of the AFC and its standing in it. Clearly, the Steelers are comfortable enough with their ability to compete with Rudolph under center. For the (large) fraction of the fanbase that doesn't yet see that vision, it's hard to sell Pittsburgh's offseason as anything but underwhelming at the sport's most important position. Watt's absence isn't a smoking gun, but it's not great for the Steelers

(Black & Gold Nation) — All eyes will be on team attendance Tuesday, as the Steelers open up their second round of OTAs, after DK Metcalf and T.J. Watt were notable absentees last week during the team's first three sessions. While Metcalf has been around the team and facilities outside of OTAs, he's new to the city and teammates and would greatly benefit from every minute in his new environment. While Watt's absence could be a precursor to a hold-out, or hold-in when the team goes to Latrobe next month. It's no secret Watt wants a new contract and longtime beat reporter Mark Kaboly said on his radio show, Kaboly and Mack, that the team has a 'significant' offer on the table. One that could be similar to the 4-year, $160 million haul Myles Garrett got from the Browns. He is currently in the final year of a 4-year, $112 million contract he signed in 2021. He's due to make $21 million this season and carry a $30 million cap hit. Versatility will be mantra of Steelers running back room Watt has not always been a steady presence during the optional workouts. There is no saying his choice to skip these workouts is anything more than an aging star trying to limit unnecessary reps. But given Watt's cryptic social media activity this spring, there is reason to suspect he could stay away from the team until he has a new deal. While these OTAs are optional, Watt could begin racking up team fines next week during mandatory minicamp. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. NFL Insider Drops Bombshell Aaron Rodgers-Pittsburgh Steelers Update

NFL Insider Drops Bombshell Aaron Rodgers-Pittsburgh Steelers Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Most NFL reporters have been under the impression for weeks that four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has told the Pittsburgh Steelers verbally that he intends to play for them in 2025. Advertisement Rodgers' personal biographer Ian O'Connor even said as much last month during an interview with 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. 'I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he's told [the Steelers], 'Listen, I'm going to play for you. I just don't want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues. I'm pretty sure they're going to be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all,'' O'Connor said. Many believe the Steelers' passing on multiple quarterbacks in the first few rounds of the 2025 NFL draft before selecting Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round was a clear sign they believe Rodgers gave them that verbal confirmation he'll be there come next season. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin (right).Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images However, during a recent appearance on the 'Rich Eisen Show,' NFL Network's Tom Pelissero recently reported that isn't exactly the case. Advertisement 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming,' Pelissero said. 'Certainly all the indications, if you look at it logically, are that he's coming based on his comments about, 'There's a team that plays in Chicago (this year) that I might play for,' 'I'm not playing in New Orleans.' 'He took one visit, he's been throwing with DK Metcalf, he talks all the time with (head coach) Mike Tomlin, I know he's talked with (offensive coordinator) Arthur Smith. There's all these signs that he's coming but he's not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9, book me the ticket, I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.' That has not happened as of this point.' Rodgers announced on the 'Pat McAfee Show' that he's been dealing with matters in his personal life that have prevented him from 100% committing to the Steelers right now. Advertisement But because Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has shown his willingness to wait on Rodgers, some analysts believe the 41-year-old QB could be taking advantage of the situation. 'Yes, they're operating as if the guy is going to be there, but every day that goes by, you just have that sense of A- what's the holdup? Why does it have to be like this?' Pelissero continued. 'And B- is it possible that one of the most unique people in the NFL in the modern era ends up making a unique U-turn at the end of this thing?'
