Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger isn't a fan of trading for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins
Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger isn't a fan of trading for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins Steelers legend QB Ben Roethlisberger isn't a fan of trading for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins. Multiple insiders have linked Cousins as the Steelers' ideal Plan B if their Plan A — Aaron Rodgers — retires in 2025. On the most recent episode of his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, co-host Spencer Te'o and Big Ben's personal chef discussed the possibility of Pittsburgh acquiring Cousins — which had the former Steelers QB shaking his head in disapproval. When Te'o asked Chef Evan and Big Ben if they liked the idea of trading for Cousins, here's what Roethlisberger had to say: "I would've [liked trading for Cousins] earlier, but not now at this point." Earlier in the episode, Roethlisberger had argued that the trade was seemingly possible due to Atlanta's desire for trade partners to eat over $20 million of Cousins' guaranteed money. Steelers rookie Will Howard getting dealt a bad hand
When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft, most pundits considered it a great value pick. Howard led the Buckeyes to a National Championship and aside from questions about his arm strength, has all the tools you look for in a modern NFL quarterback in a big, athletic package. Howard himself has said all the right things about joining the Steelers and even has the endorsement of Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger. Put all this together and Howard and Steelers' fans should be excited about the upcoming season, right? Advertisement Not so much. In fact, it feels like picking Howard is more of a procedural thing and there are no plans to let Howard get a fair shot at the starting job this season, regardless of whether or not the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers. But there's always next season, right? Probably not. No matter what happens in 2025 short of a deep playoff push with Mason Rudolph at quarterback, the Steelers are going to spend a top draft pick on a quarterback in 2026. If the Steelers do draft a top quarterback next year, Howard is now playing behind a guy the team has invested in heavily and isn't going anywhere. We are rooting for the cards to fall right for Howard this season and he gets an opportunity to show the team what he can do and maybe hold off the team from replacing him too quickly. Steelers rookie QB Will Howard on Aaron Rodgers: 'Would love to learn from him'
Steelers rookie QB Will Howard claimed to have zero knowledge of an Aaron Rodgers signing — but he seemed genuinely excited about the possibility of eventually working with him. On a recent episode of Kay Adams' sports talk show, Up & Adams, Howard was asked if his mentor, Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger, had asked for any updates on the Rodgers situation in Pittsburgh — and this was Howard's response: Advertisement "Not really. I'm sure he asked once or twice — but [Aaron Rodgers'] name has been thrown around a lot," Howard joked before giving his take on a potential Rodgers signing. "I don't know what's going to happen — who knows. That's all over my head, but I'd love to be in a room and learn from [Rodgers]." Howard learning from both Roethlisberger and Rodgers would do wonders for his long-term development — perhaps even enough to prevent the Pittsburgh Steelers from drafting a quarterback early in 2026. Will Howard eager to learn from Aaron Rodgers if the veteran QB signs
Since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season, the Steelers have had five starting quarterbacks. They have tried the draft (Kenny Pickett), a trade (Justin Fields) and free agency (Russell Wilson). They remain in search. The Steelers brought back Mason Rudolph, a third-round pick in 2018, in free agency and drafted Will Howard in the sixth-round. They also have Skylar Thompson on their roster. Aaron Rodgers, though, might end up being the bridge quarterback for 2025. Owner Art Rooney II said this week the Steelers were willing to to wait 'a little while longer' for Rodgers to make a decision. 'I don't know what's going to happen,' Howard told Kay Adams on Up and Adams this week. 'That's all over my head. But I'd love to be in a room and learn from him. Again, who knows what's going to happen. I have no idea and that's above my head.' Howard, at some point, will get a chance to prove he's the franchise quarterback the Steelers long have sought. He believes he has what the Steelers seek. 'They need like a gritty guy,' Howard said. 'Growing up for me, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Big Ben, Big Ben was that guy. He was Pittsburgh. He was the Steel City, the blue collar and gritty guy. And I want to be that, too. I want to bring that edge and that energy. I think I did a pretty good job of it at Ohio State, and I kind of like to pride myself on that and I'm going to try and bring it to the Steel City.'

Ben Roethlisberger Makes Bold Prediction for Steelers Day 3 Rookie
Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Jack Sawyer at practice on May 9, 2025. -- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sees big things in the future of Pittsburgh's fourth-round pick Jack Sawyer. The Pittsburgh Steelers passed on other positions of need to strengthen their already star-studded outside linebacker room with Ohio State's Jack Sawyer in the fourth round (No. 123) of the 2025 NFL Draft. But former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn't think they'll ever come to regret that decision. Advertisement 'You can see that that dude has every potential to be a captain at some point on this team' Roethlisberger said on the latest episode of 'Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger.' 'Dude is gonna be good, I think. I almost forgot about him in the draft. When we picked him, I was like, 'Oh, I remember. Yeah, that's a good pick.'' Sawyer, 22, did come at great value ranked as the No. 67 overall player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. So it wouldn't be a surprise if he was the highest-rated player on Pittsburgh's board. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound defender recorded 59 tackles (25 solo), nine sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and six passes defensed while leading the Buckeyes to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2024. Advertisement His most notable play came in the Cotton Bowl when he strip sacked Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and returned it for an 83-yard touchdown to seal the game. Jack Sawyer, Ohio State Athletics However, Sawyer is joining a very crowded room, which already includes T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig. That's why many question what his impact will be as a rookie or even in the next couple of seasons. Roethlisberger is not among those, though. Instead, he thinks it will be a good thing for Sawyer's long-term development. 'I think it's great because he's going to get to learn behind some studs, maybe one of the greatest to ever play the game in T.J., Alex, who's a high-motor, high-quality, high-character guy that is a really good football player as well,' Roethlisberger said. 'And he's all for learning. He's not coming in being like, 'I'm the dude.'' Advertisement In four seasons at Ohio State, Sawyer registered 144 tackles (68 solo), 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, one interception and 10 passes defensed.
