April 12: Potsdam Public Library's Battle of the Books
Potsdam Public Library's Battle of the Books local battle will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m.
Teams consisting of four or more students can be formed by any combination of fourth and sixth graders. In September, the teams read a selected list of 16 books together under the guidance of an adult coach. Teams answer questions about the books on the list during the tournament by providing the title and author of the book.
The PPL winning team advances to a regional competition where they will compete against the winners of other North Country Library System libraries in St. Lawrence, Lewis and Jefferson counties.

Pro Padel League to kick off 2025 season in Miami. Here's what you need to know
The sport of padel continues to grow in the United States, and Miami, with its large Latin American population, is now a stop for two professional leagues. Two months after the Premier Padel league held its U.S. debut at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Pro Padel League (PPL) announced this week that it is kicking off its 2025 season on June 19 at the Wayfair Arena in Medley, a suburb of Miami. It is the same venue where Unrivaled, the women's three-on-three basketball league, was held earlier this year. The PPL has 10 co-ed teams in the United States, Mexico and Canada and the season will include stops in San Sebastián (Spain) in July, Guadalajara (Mexico) in August, an All-Star Festival in The Hamptons (New York) Aug. 30-Sept. 1 and the City's Cup (New York) in mid-October. The teams include: the Flowrida Goats, owned by Puerto Rican music star Daddy Yankee, the Arkansas Matrix, Cancun Waves, Houston Volts, Las Vegas Smash, Los Angeles Beat, Miami Padel Club, New York Atlantics, San Diego Stingrays, and Toronto Polar Bears. Padel, a combination of tennis, racquetball and squash, has been popular in Spain, Argentina, Venezuela and other parts of South America for a long time. 'This schedule is a defining moment in our journey,' said PPL CEO Mike Dorfman. 'With Spain being the heart of the international padel scene, and Mexico, the birthplace of padel and home to one of our most passionate fan bases, our 2025 season isn't just expanding — it's going global. 'Our opening event at the home of Unrivaled, the newest women's professional basketball league, is purposeful. Wayfair Arena is a cutting-edge venue that will provide an epic in-arena experience for our fans, but equally important is the direct connection to women's sports as the PPL is the epitome of a modern sports league. We are growing the sport of padel globally to the benefit of the best players in the world – regardless of gender – and will engage and inspire a new generation of fandom.' For more information, go to
