Atlantic Beach considering cutting contract with Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department
After years of paying millions in taxpayer money to the City of Jacksonville for fire rescue services through the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, the City of Atlantic Beach is asking whether it should be paying at all.
The conversation came up in an Atlantic Beach City Commission meeting on April 28th, when Mayor Curtis Ford brought up his concerns with continuing the city's contract with JFRD.

'Fire services are a county service and, therefore, should be paid by the county,' Ford said during the meeting.
City commissioners said Atlantic Beach pays more than $1 million every year to the City of Jacksonville for fire rescue services. The money is used for staffing, equipment, and fire engines inside of Atlantic Beach's fire station, which the city owns. But since Atlantic Beach leaders pointed out Neptune Beach doesn't pay a cent for fire services from the City of Jacksonville, it doesn't believe it should have to do so, either.

'We shouldn't have paid last year, that was my thinking, and I don't think we should pay another penny after this year,' said Commissioner Jessica Ring during the April meeting.
The contract for fire services between Atlantic Beach and the City of Jacksonville recently expired. Atlantic Beach leaders initially had a plan to slowly stop paying Jacksonville for fire services over the next three years. But Mayor Ford called the plan generous, saying he doesn't believe another dollar should be paid.
'I'm very concerned about this, and this is the time to take action,' said Ford.
The City of Jacksonville could not provide an interview with Action News Jax, but did provide a statement:
'Over the past year, the City of Jacksonville and City of Atlantic Beach have been reviewing the interlocal agreement between the two cities. These discussions are ongoing. No decision has been made yet about fire services. Mayors Deegan and Ford will be meeting soon to discuss further.'
We asked the city of Atlantic Beach how fires would be managed in the city if it were to cut its contract with JFRD. The city told us it is working on arranging an interview with us to help answer this question. The City of Jacksonville tells us the mayors of the two cities are expected to meet next week to discuss fire services.

Doug Ford says it's time to ‘move on' from Macdonald statue controversy
It's time to 'move forward' from controversy over the Ontario legislature's statue of Sir John A. Macdonald now that the decision has been made to remove the protective hoarding around it , says Premier Doug Ford. 'You know, things have happened over a number of years, but we can't just box them up,' he told reporters Friday. 'We have to move on. Stop worrying about the past.' The statue of Canada's first prime minister, on the front lawn atop University Avenue, has been out of sight since a wooden box was built around it in 2020 following acts of vandalism over Macdonald's role in creating residential schools , where thousands of Indigenous children died after being taken from their families. In the coming weeks, the statue will be cleaned and a protective coating applied as a result of a May 12 decision by the legislature's board of internal economy to once again have it on full public display. Representatives from Ford's Progressive Conservatives, the New Democrats and Liberals sit on the board. There will be a plaque stating, in part, 'though we cannot change the history we have inherited, we can shape the history we wish to leave behind' as consultations continue with Indigenous groups on how to better represent their concerns at the legislature, where suggestions have included building a residential schools monument. The move to 'unbox' the statue, where dozens of tiny shoes had been placed in memoriam over the years, has frustrated New Democrat MPP Sol Mamakwa (Kiiwetinoong), a residential school survivor who warned it could be toppled or spray painted because of the hurt residential schools caused. 'We are still trying to find our kids, our ancestors, in these residential schools,' he said earlier this week, referring to the search for unmarked graves that is expected to take years. Ford discouraged vandalism but invited protests at the statue, which will be under 24-hour security watch. Residential schools opened in 1883 under Macdonald's government. The last one closed in 1996. About 150,000 Indigenous children were removed from their homes in a system likened to apartheid and genocide. Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission counted 3,201 deaths in its 2015 report.

'If It Doesn't Stay, it Will Imperil What We Do in Marshall.' Ford Stock (NYSE:F) Gains Despite Battery Factory Threat
Is there trouble ahead at legacy automaker Ford (F)? It may be so, as new signs of declining federal funding for electric vehicles may be about to hit Ford at the battery factory level. Especially given one of the big battery factories Ford has at Marshall. Investors took the news oddly well, though, and sent shares surging upward nearly 2.5% in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: We know that the government has been looking to save a few trillion bucks ever since the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) got fired up in earnest. And while it has found a whole lot of potential savings—savings that, even now, are looking to be actively codified into law—there are always other places to look. And production tax credits for electric vehicle batteries may be on the chopping block next. That, in turn—notes Ford's executive chair Bill Ford—would '…imperil what we do in Marshall,' referring to the battery plant in Marshall, Michigan. Ford elaborated 'We made a certain investment based upon a policy that was in place. It's not fair to change policies after the expenditure has been made.' Indeed, Ford is not without a point, but Ford must keep in mind that that policy was made by an administration that no longer exists. Tackling Pikes Peak Annually, Ford has a particular goal in mind for its electric vehicles, a demonstration of their sheer capability known as the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Ford has been in on the action for the last three years, and delivered some impressive wins. But this year might be the most impressive yet, as Ford brings a Mach-E Mustang to the hill climb event, and it is looking pretty sharp. Ford revealed back in January that the Pikes Peak run would be a Mustang Mach-E event, and the early word out about the car intended for that run. Reports note that the nose design, and much of the front, is clearly reminiscent of a Mach-E, but the rest of the car has been fundamentally redesigned for the event. Packing a front splitter, a rear wing, and a rear 'ground effect tunnel,' this car has been given the full treatment to give it the best chance at Pikes Peak. The combined effect yields—brace yourself—6,125 pounds of downforce. We will see how this does once the event concludes in late June. Is Ford Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on F stock based on two Buys, 12 Holds and three Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 15.75% loss in its share price over the past year, the average F price target of $9.71 per share implies 6.95% downside risk.

2026 Ram 1500 TRX Review: Expert Insights, Pricing, and Trims
Reviewed by Bob Hernandez The outrageous Ram 1500 TRX owes its existence in part to competitive gamesmanship. Without the challenge posed by the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram might never have conceived such a bold off-roader—or made such a dramatic impact with it. The flagship model has helped the current 1500 earn MotorTrend's Truck of the Year title an impressive three times and now we hear a 2026 Ram 1500 TRX may be on the way. Off-road full-size truck competitors include the F-150 Raptor, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. With the kind of power the 2026 TRX will be packing, however, it's really just the F-150 Raptor and Ram's own 1500 RHO. The photo above is a concept. What's New We expect the Ram 1500 TRX will come out of retirement for 2026 or 2027, this time making more power than the 702 hp it made before. The TRX debuted for 2021 and was discontinued after the 2024 model year. This page will be updated with more insights and photos as information becomes available. What We Think It's back—the Ram 1500 TRX returns as a high-powered, off-road monster packed with a supercharged V-8 engine, advanced suspension, and exceptional all-terrain capability. Despite its rugged nature, the TRX is expected to deliver a smooth, composed ride on pavement as well. Aside from its poor fuel economy and steep price, the new 2026 Ram 1500 TRX has few drawbacks. We easily overlooked these in the previous model, naming it the 2021 Truck of the Year—a strong vote of confidence for Ram's revived powerhouse. Perhaps the only obstacles in the 2026 TRX's way are the solid F-150 Raptor and the Ram 1500 RHO. Less expensive than the TRX, the RHO delivers 540 hp, off-road capability, and a MotorTrend-tested 4.6-second 0-60 mph time. Impressive, but the RHO lacks one thing the TRX has: A bellowing V-8. Top-Ranked Competitors: Ram 1500 RHO MotorTrend Tested Enthusiasts will rejoice that the Hemi V-8 is not dead after all, and a 5.7-liter version of the engine is returning to the Ram 1500 lineup. It's not yet known if the last TRX's supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi is coming back, but it does look like engineers are targeting output more than the old TRX's 702 hp. It's not a stretch to think more displacement and a supercharger are the only ways to reach that goal. The TRX's new heart will also make a lot more than the Hurricane High Output inline-6, last year's top engine, which produces only 540 hp. Sprints to 60 mph in the new TRX should take less than the last model's 4.1 seconds. MPGs and Range V-8s have to drink, and the TRX's last one was especially thirsty. Fuel economy ratings for the 2024 came in at 10/14 mpg city/highway. With that truck's massive 33-gallon fuel tank, it is capable of 396 miles of total range. The Ford Raptor R features a smaller 5.2-liter blown V-8 but still returns roughly the same fuel economy. The only difference is the Ford gets 1 mpg more on the highway. Safety Features All 1500 models include a basic set of driver-assist features. Automatic emergency braking Lane keeping Adaptive cruise control Front and rear parking sensors Trailer sway control The TRX will also receive standard: Blind-spot monitoring Rear cross-traffic alert How Much Space? Every TRX is equipped with a crew cab, short bed, and 4WD. Forward legroom in the 1500 crew cab comes in at 40.9 inches, while in back there's 45.2 inches. The rear measurement is 1.6 inches greater than what comes in a similarly configured F-150. Both trucks come with a 67-inch bed. Technology Infotainment TRXs should feature a 12.3-inch driver display and 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, though we have our fingers crossed the 14.5-inch upgrade becomes standard this year. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, as is a color head-up display. Sound System A 10-speaker sound system may be standard, and Ram offers a 19-speaker Harman Kardon upgrade. Available Upgrades The burliest of 1500s can level up further with manufacturer upgrades like a light bar, bed-mounted tire carrier, tie downs, and bed lighting. Cabin options include a phone charging pad and ventilated front seats. Value Standard Features The 1500 TRX's primary appeal lies in its immense capability thanks to a stout powertrain and plenty of off-road hardware. It also features a lot of the latest tech, like huge cabin screens. The pickup comes with an equally huge price tag, though, a sting exacerbated by some admittedly terrible fuel economy. What's Happening With the 1500 RHO? For 2025, the Ram 1500 TRX was effectively succeeded by the Ram 1500 RHO, which swaps the supercharged V-8 for a 540-hp twin-turbo inline-six. Although not as fast as the TRX, the RHO remains impressively quick, and its lighter engine significantly enhances handling and overall driving dynamics. Look for Ram to either elevate TRX performance way above the RHO, as it doesn't make sense for the company to sell two capable off-roaders with about the same power. Either way, the lineup retains more accessible rugged trims like the mid-grade 1500 Warlock and Rebel models.
