In the golden age of Hindi cinema, two of Bollywood's biggest stars Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan found themselves on opposite sides of an intense off-screen rivalry.
While they had earlier shared the screen in the beloved 1971 film 'Anand,' their reunion in 'Namak Haraam' (1973) proved to be far more complicated.
According to accounts documented in Yasser Usman's biography Rajesh Khanna: The Untold Story of India's First Superstar, Rajesh Khanna believed that Amitabh Bachchan was undermining him behind the scenes, particularly with director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Mukesh Khanna reportedly suspected that Bachchan had "poisoned" the director's mind. This led to a change in the film's original climax.
The Fight for the Death Scene
The central tension revolved around who would get the film's heroic death.
In 'Anand', Mukesh Khanna's emotionally charged death scene left a lasting impact on audiences. Hoping to recreate that legacy, he reportedly demanded that his character die in 'Namak Haraam'—a deviation from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's original script.

Gulzar, who wrote the film, revealed in the same book, 'We had to change the end because Hrishikesh Mukherjee had promised Rajesh Khanna the death scene.' The change caught Amitabh Bachchan off guard, who only found out on the day of the shoot.

A Rift That Never Healed
The tension didn't end on set. Rajesh Khanna's long-time associate, Prashant Roy, recalled that the superstar held a lasting grudge. 'During the entire shoot, he believed Amitabh was playing dirty politics. Hrishida stopped visiting frequently after that. Amitabh never came to Aashirwaad,' he shared.
The two icons never worked together again after 'Namak Haraam'. Rajesh Khanna passed away in 2012 at the age of 69, having left behind a legacy of stardom that marked the beginning of Bollywood's superstar era.

Murderbaad Trailer: This Whodunit Asks Just One Question, ‘Where Is The Guest?'

Last Updated: Murderbaad boasts a star-studded cast, featuring new talents Nakul Roshan Sahdev and Kanikka Kapur, along with Sharib Hashmi, Manish Chaudhari and others. The trailer for the upcoming romantic thriller Murderbaad was released on Monday, July 7. Directed by Arnab Chatterjee in his debut Hindi feature, the film takes viewers to the peaceful and vibrant city of Jaipur. The trailer begins with a driver, Maqsood, introducing a guide, Jayesh, who is fluent in English, to a tour company for a group of NRIs visiting Rajasthan. But what starts as a simple story of a guest, Isabella, slowly falling in love with the tour guide, takes a sinister turn when one of the guests, Shaili, goes missing from a grand palace in Rajasthan. Soon, the police jump into action and question everyone, including the other guests and the owner of the tour company. While the trailer hints that the driver might be behind the guest's disappearance, the case gets more and more twisted with every revelation. The simple missing case soon unravels a web of dark secrets and long-buried truths of human psychology. The trailer teases with a gripping line that goes, 'where love and death collide,' pointing out that every character in the film harbours a hidden motive. Arnab Chatterjee discussed his first Hindi feature film, revealing that he started working on Murderbaad five years back while he was still in college. In a statement, he said, 'It's inspired by the romance and thrill I grew up watching, but I wanted to set that mood in a distinctly rooted setting. At its core, it's about the stories people bury to protect their identity. I'm grateful to have had such a talented cast and crew bring this vision to life." Murderbaad boasts a star-studded cast, featuring new talents Nakul Roshan Sahdev and Kanikka Kapur, along with industry veterans Sharib Hashmi, Manish Chaudhari, Amole Gupte, Aanjjan Srivastav and Vibha Chhibber, among others. Sharib, who plays the role of the driver Maqsood, shared that Arnab left no stone unturned in 'bringing together a complete mix of fresh and extremely experienced members in the team." Expressing his joy in working with him and the entire cast, he added, 'I've enjoyed every day on set. The film is very unique in its own way, both in terms of story as well as the way it got made, with a 24-year-old (at the time of shooting) director-producer being at the top of it. I pray for all the luck to our film, and wish Arnab all the success that he deserves in future." Murderbaad is written and directed by Arnab Chatterjee, who also produced it under his banner, ACjee Entertainment. The romantic thriller is set to lock horns with YRF's Saiyaara on July 18. When Jaya Bachchan cried inconsolably after watching Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's love-making scenes: 'Could see tears...'

When Jaya Bachchan cried inconsolably after watching Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's love-making scenes: 'Could see tears...' In the world of glitz and glam, a leading actor's name often gets linked with many actresses. Amitabh Bachchan was one such star, whose name was associated with many leading heroines in 90s such as Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Smita Patil. But, one name who drew massive headlines was Rekha. While, Big B always remained tight-lipped on the rumours, Rekha on the other hand, had expressed her admiration in several interviews. Why did Jaya Bachchan cry after watching Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's Muqaddar Ka Sikandar ? Back in 1978, When one of Amitabh and Rekha's last films Muqaddar Ka Sikandar released, the Umrao Jaan actress recalled an incident when she saw Jaya Bachchan crying while watching their intimate scene. In a throwback interview with Stardust, Rekha revealed how she saw tears shedding down from Jaya's eyes after watching them together. 'Once, I was looking at the whole (Bachchan) family through the projection room when they came to see the trial show of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Jaya was sitting in the front row, and he (Amitabh) and his parents were in the row behind her. They couldn't see her as clearly as I could. And during our love scenes, I could see tears pouring down her face.' Rekha said. Following the trial show, Rekha revealed how rumours started to afloat about Amitabh Bachchan's decision to not collaborate with her anymore. The veteran actor further said, 'A week later, everybody in the industry was telling me that he had made it clear to his producers that he was not going to work with me.' Jaya Bachchan decided to cut ties with Rekha? Reports even claimed that Jaya Bachchan distanced himself from Rekha, and their friendship deteriorated for life. However, Rekha dismissed all the rumours and said in an interview with with Simi Garewal, 'Didibhai (Jaya) is much more mature, much more together. I've yet to come across a woman who is so together. She's got so much dignity, so much class. She's got a lot of strength. I admire that woman. We had an association before the so-called rumours and the media messed up the whole image. We were living in the same building and we had a relationship. She was my Didibhai, she still is – no matter what happens, nobody can take that away. Thank God she realises that too.' The film Silsila, released in 1981, was Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan's last collaboration. Helmed by Yash Chopra, the film remains one of the most talked-about cinematic projects ever, largely due to the love triangle show on-screen between Rekha, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.
