Police responded to a shooting in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area at 10:56 a.m., according to a statement from the base.
Facilities at the base and the Wright and Evans Army Airfield were put on lockdown at 11:04 am, officials said.
The soldiers who were shot were all hospitalized.
The shooter was taken into custody at 11:35 pm. The gunman's name hasn't been released.

The lockdown is now lifted after soldiers were warned to stay inside and lock their doors.
Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary, and Snelson Golden Middle School were all placed on soft lockdown out of precaution, the Liberty County School System said on Facebook.
Fort Stewart Schools are now in secure status, meaning no one will enter or leave the school, but school activity can continue, according to Community Superintendent Brian Perry.
Perry said there is no immediate threat to any of Fort Stewart's schools at this time.

Fort Stewart, about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River.
More than 15,000 soldiers and their families are housed there.
President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said on social media that he's monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

"As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today's tragedy at Ft. Stewart," Kemp wrote on X.
"We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same."
Fort Stewart's statement
Fort Stewart issued the following statement after five soldiers were shot in an active shooter situation on Wednesday:
Five Soldiers were shot today in an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. All Soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. There is no active threat to the community.
Law enforcement was dispatched for a possible shooting in the 2nd ABCT complex at 10:56 a.m. The shooter was apprehended at 11:35 a.m.
The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and Fort Stewart lifted the lockdown of the main cantonment area at 12:10 p.m. 2nd ABCT complex is still locked down.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to treat the wounded Soldiers at 11:09 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation and no additional information will be released until the investigation is complete.

Senator Raphael Warnock said he is also aware of the situation.
"I'm heartbroken to see the news of an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart today," Warnock shared on X.

"I'm monitoring the situation closely and join all of Georgia as we pray for the safety of our servicemembers, staff, and their families."
The victims haven't been identified.

Casualties reported in active shooter incident at US army base
An active shooter incident at the Fort Stewart US army base in Georgia has resulted in casualties, authorities said, and the base has been put on lockdown.
