Bristol man with cerebral palsy to swim 5km in latest fundraiser
A man with cerebral palsy known for taking on fundraising challenges says he is training for his next event.Ash Jenkins, from Bristol, is planning to swim 5km (three miles) in open water at Adam Walker's lake, in Lincolnshire, for charity.He has previously done bungee jumps and indoor skydives - but the most he has previously swum for charity is 1.6km (one mile) in 2016.Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, he said he needed "24-hour care to get around, to get up and live my life", adding: "But I try to live my life to the fullest."
Mr Jenkins uses a wheelchair and had surgery in 2023 to straighten his spine. He says his cerebral palsy affects all four of his limbs and his speech.
'I love to swim'
He explained he was now in training to take on the challenge in September - and said he expected it to last at least eight hours.The water temperature should be about 14C to 15C and he will wear a wetsuit, Mr Jenkins added."It's what I do, I love to swim," he said. "I'm going to be using a snorkel to breathe and I'm not going to be on my back."Mr Jenkins is raising money for Bristol-based charity Cerebral Palsy Plus and has collected more than £350 so far.

Owen Farrell is set to return to the Premiership after Saracens secured a deal that will see him return from Racing 92 with his contract factoring in his role once he's retired Owen Farrell will return to Saracens after just one year away with the Premiership club negotiating his exit from French club Racing 92. The England star opted to head overseas last summer, but is now poised to head back. Farrell joined Stuart Lancaster, the man who gave him his England debut in 2011, at the Paris-based outfit. However Lancaster has since been sacked and the fly-half has struggled to settle in the French capital, struggling with injury and expressing a desire to return to his homeland. Racing 92 originally demanded a €500,000 fee to let Farrell go but Saracens have negotiated that down to €200,000 with the 33-year-old signing a five-year deal in north London that makes plans for his retirement, reports the Telegraph. The move will see him take up a player-coach position. Farrell is set to play for at least the next two seasons before he transitions into a full-time coaching role when he retires as a player. Racing received approaches from several Premiership clubs, including Gloucester and Leicester Tigers, but Farrell was only looking to return to Saracens, where he had played for 16 seasons as a professional. Farrell's return to England means he is again eligible to play for his country. The RFU's overseas policy meant he had ruled himself out of playing under Steve Borthwick, but he will again put himself in contention to add to his 112 caps. Saracens have just missed out on the top four having previously been regulars in the play-offs and director of rugby Mark McCall, who didn't shy away from confessing the club's interest in Farrell, insists having him back would be a huge plus on and off the pitch. 'He doesn't have to play 10, he can play other positions as well,' McCall said recently. 'So for our young talents who are developing, it could be a great thing to have him there. 'It's not just about having talent, it's about being able to think properly on the field. I know Owen's obviously one of the best at that. He and [fellow fly-half] Louie Johnson in particular have a very strong relationship already. They talk every month at least. Owen's so willing to share his knowledge and his experience with younger players.' Farrell was seen as an outside bet to go on this summer's British and Irish Lions tour, where dad Andy is the head coach. He can still be called up as injury cover, which could see him take part in a fourth tour having been part of the squads in 2013, 2017 and 2021.

But things move fast in football and last weekend rumours and reports emerged linking him with a move to Mexican side Pumas. The Press Association stated he had agreed a move to the Guadalajara-based side, with Ramsey's name dominating column inches and airwaves on the other side of the Atlantic. His move has taken one step closer in the last 24 hours, with outlet Telediario reporting that FIFA have lifted a transfer ban on the Pumas on Thursday, meaning the club can now register new players. "This Thursday, the highest governing body of world soccer took the next step to allow Club Universidad Nacional to sign players during the current transfer window," the report states. "This comes after UNAM officials fixed the administrative error that originally put them in this predicament a couple of weeks ago. "With this issue resolved, university leadership can now fully focus on planning the next tournament, where the goal will be to return to the Liguilla and compete for the championship. Article continues below "Now off the registration ban list, the latest signing that the Pumas are aiming to make official as soon as possible is Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey. "While his contract with Cardiff City runs until June 30 of this year, it is estimated that he could terminate his contract sooner than expected." The American group have their own player databases and that is likely to be exploited, with the Elland Road side likely aiming for a higher profile players now they have reached the Premier League promised land. But Turgeman, who stands at 6ft 1in tall and can play as a central striker or on the left wing, is under contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv until the summer of 2026, would fit the bill for Rangers He started his youth career at Ashdod before moving to Bloomfield Stadium in 2018. He spent a season on loan at Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam between 2021 and 2022 before breaking into the first-team picture at Maccabi. His manager Zarko Lazetic described him as a 'beast on the football pitch' and around the time of Leeds United's interest, didn't want to sell at any price, saying only a 'fairytale offer' would tempt him to part company. Rangers have been told that £4million won't be enough for the Israelis to sell and they will have to raise any offer.
