Shooting National Selection Trials: Esha Singh among three winners on Thursday
The competition is currently underway here at the Trishul Shooting range in the Uttarakhand capital. While Telangana's Esha won the 25m pistol women T3 competition, Kerala's Vidarsa Vinod took the 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) T4 honours and Maharashtra's Parth Rakesh Mane, won the 10m air rifle men T4 title, in what was another day of intense competition among the best rifle and pistol shooters of India.
Esha shot a 580 to take third spot in qualifications, but stamped her class in the finals when needed most, that is towards the end stages, to completely blow away Maharashtra's Abhidnya Ashok Patil, who had to settle for silver. Tamil Nadu's Niveditha Nair came third, as per a press release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
Abhidnya, who had topped qualification with a quality 585, was ahead of Esha by two till the seventh series of the 10-series final, but the Olympian finished with two perfect series of five-hits and four-hits in the final series to end on a score of 41. Abhidnya scored a total of seven points in the final three series to end with 36, while Niveditha exited after the ninth series to take third with a score of 30.
In the men's 10m air rifle T4, as is the normal in international competitions, the eighth and final qualification berth went at 630.6 after 60 shots. Two-time Olympian and 3P specialist Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar topped it with a 633.5, while Parth qualified fourth with 631.9.
Winner of the T3 trial Uma Mahesh Maddineni, took the early lead in the finals, which also featured former world number one and world record holder Divyansh Singh Panwar and three shooters from the Army compete.
Junior World Championship medalist Parth, was hovering around third throughout the initial stages, went into joint lead with Aishwary, only after the 16th single shot of the eliminations stage. The 17th, a 10.7, took him to sole lead, and he held on gamely after that to take the win, finishing with 251.8.
Aishwary's chase fell 0.3 short of Parth as he took second, while Uma settled for third place on the day.
In the women's 3P T4 final, Kerala's Vidarsa Vinod got the better of a star-studded field, finishing with 462.7 after 45 shots, to edge out Punjab's former world championship silver medalist and two-time Olympian Anjum Moudgil by 0.3 points. Haryana's Nischal, a World Cup silver-medalist, was third.
Earlier, T3 winner Sift Kaur Samra of Punjab topped the qualifications with a superb 594, edging out world championship medalist Mehuli Ghosh by a point. The winner took the sixth qualifying spot with a score of 587.
The trials continue on day four Friday, with two finals, the 10m air rifle women T3 and the 25m rapid-fire pistol men T4, on the roster. (ANI)

Anantjeet Naruka Wins India's First Gold At Asian Shooting Championships 2025
Olympian Anantjeet Singh Naruka secured India's first senior gold medal at the Asian Shooting Championships 2025, winning the top prize in the men's skeet event in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday. Naruka scored 57 out of a possible 60 points in a competitive final clash against Kuwait's Mansour Al-Rashidi, a former Asian Games champion, who managed 56. The bronze medal went to Qatar's Ali Ahmed Al-Ishaq, who shot 43, as per This is also Naruka's first-ever individual gold at Asian Championships, as in the last edition held at Kuwait, he had to stay content with a silver. Interestingly, back then, Naruka had missed out on gold with a similar scoreline of 57-56 to Chinese Taipei's Lee Meng-yuan. Naruka was India's only qualifier to the individual final after finishing second in the preliminary round with a score of 119. India's Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, another Olympian and two-time Asian champion in skeet, registered an eighth-place finish, but was shooting for ranking points only (RPO). Bhavtegh Singh Gill finished at 28th, with Abhay Singh Sekhon attaining 31st spot in the qualifiers. Naruka, Gill and Sekhon combined secured a sixth-place finish in the men's team event. Naruka's gold concluded the day for Indian shooters, which saw a bronze medal win for Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Surichi and Saurabh defeated Chinese Taipei's Liu Heng-Yu and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen 17-9 in the medal clash, and China secured the gold medal. The Indian duo missed the gold medal match by just two points, and it marked their second medal at the ongoing championships. Saurabh, who is also an Olympian, teamed up with Aditya Malra and Anmol Jain to secure the silver medal in the men's 10 m air pistol team event. Suruchi was also a part of the bronze-winning Indian women's 10 m air pistol team alongside Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and Palak Gulia Also, the women's skeet team comprising of Maheshwari Chauhan, Ganemat Sekhon and Raiza Dhillon secured a bronze medal as they finished behind China and Kazakhstan in their category. The Indian trio shot 329 points, while China managed 342, and Kazakhstan got 339 points. Maheshwari Chauhan also made it to the final of women's singles' skeet event, finishing fifth in the qualifiers, but missed out on the medal by finishing fourth. So far at the championships, India has won six medals, a gold, a silver and four bronze in senior events. Only China is ahead of India. The Indian contingent, amongst seniors, comprises of 35 members competing for medals across 15 events. A total of 129 junior shooters are also representing the Indian tricolour at the event.
