7 President's Police Gallantry Medals all awarded to Gadchiroli Police
Over the last five years, Gadchiroli police have received a total of three Shaurya Chakras, 210 Police Gallantry Medals, and eight medals for meritorious service.
The recipients of the Police Gallantry Medal from the Gadchiroli Police force in 2025 are assistant police inspector Netaji Sukhdev Bandgar, police sub-inspector Manohar Kotla Mahaka, police head constable Manohar Lachma Pendam, constables Prakash Ishwar Kannake, Atul Satyanarayan Yegolpawar, Hidayat Sadulla Khan and martyr police constable Suresh Lingaji Telami (posthumously).
In 2017, a C-60 team was returning to Bhamragad from Kothi in an MPV vehicle when Maoists detonated a landmine and attacked the police team. The officers and personnel responded to this cowardly attack with great courage and composure, Gadchiroli Police said. They protected the injured and trapped police personnel and themselves while returning fire against the intense Maoist assault. The President's Police Gallantry Medal has been announced in recognition of the bravery displayed by these officers and personnel during this landmine blast.
The Superintendent of Police Neelotpal commended the recipients of the President's Police Gallantry Medal on behalf of the Gadchiroli Police force and extended his best wishes for their future service.

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has said that Dr Dinesh D, a Coimbatore-based dentist, is a hard-core terrorist who underwent training in sophisticated weapons, including automatic rifles, to further the activities of the banned terrorist organisation CPI (Maoist) as part of a larger conspiracy to wage war against the nation. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had arrested him in 2021 from a clinic at Edayarpalayam, Coimbatore, where he was working as a dentist. The NIA stated that Dr Dinesh, the fourth accused, and the other accused persons had voluntarily convened a meeting and training camp in September 2016 in the reserve forest of Karulai in Malappuram district. During the camp, they handled arms, including automatic rifles, the central agency said while opposing the accused's bail plea before the Special Court for NIA cases in Kochi. Considering the gravity of the offence, the court recently dismissed the bail plea. Challenging the decision, the accused has approached the Kerala High Court, where the matter is pending consideration. According to the bail order, the Kerala Police and ATS Kerala had arraigned 25 accused in the case. Of these, eight have died in different incidents and four remain absconding. The ATS filed a chargesheet against five accused before the District and Sessions Court, Manjeri, on May 18, 2021. On August 19, 2021, the Union government directed the NIA to take over the investigation and the case was re-registered. The NIA investigation revealed that the accused persons numbered 1 to 28 had conspired with the proscribed organisation and conducted or attended training camps at various places in India to further its activities. The accused's counsel submitted before the Special Court that he has been in detention for more than four years and four months in connection with the case. Given the large number of documents, material objects, and witnesses, the trial is unlikely to be completed in the near future. It was argued that such prolonged custody violates the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Leniency for convicts, misuse of UAPA draw flak at CPI conference
PATHANAMTHITTA: In a strong critique of the state home department, the district conference of the CPI in Pathanamthitta has raised concerns over the misuse of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the provision of 'lenient conditions' for high-profile jail convicts including Kodi Suni, the prime accused in the T P Chandrasekharan murder. The political report, presented at the three-day meet being held in Konni, asked the ruling front to ensure fairness in the system. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam, in his address, also took aim at the home department, cautioning the LDF government against the indiscriminate use of UAPA. Referring to the cases of Alan Shuhaib and Taha Fazal, Viswam said: 'Cases can be registered when there are valid reasons, but the government should not appear as one that keeps people in jail indefinitely under UAPA. That is the CPI policy.' He also cited the plight of Maoist leader Roopesh, who reportedly had to go on a hunger strike to publish a book, despite the Supreme Court having affirmed prisoners' right to do so. 'Kerala should not become a state that permanently detains citizens. CPI cannot accept this. UDF and BJP can do it, the Left government should not,' he stressed. The report highlighted that top police officers like ADGP Ajith Kumar are even disregarding ministerial directives. The report further criticised nepotism in Kudumbashree-linked appointments and warned that political welcoming of those accused under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) and even POCSO could trigger public backlash. While acknowledging significant modernisation in the health sector, the CPI report called for better administrative discipline at the senior level. 'Kudumbashree is a major women's empowerment initiative, but placing its members directly in government departments without going through PSC (Public Service Commission) or employment exchange can raise fairness concerns and affect departmental functioning. Strong financial discipline is essential to avoid irregularities,' the report noted. Environmental concerns — including quarrying, soil removal, and paddy field reclamation — were also flagged, with the party calling for tighter vigil. The report also criticised the functioning of the animal husbandry department. On the national front, the CPI accused the RSS of attempting to portray itself as the 'apostles of the country' while glorifying leaders like Vinayak Savarkar 'who apologised to the British six times'. It also warned against Christian priests maintaining ties with the BJP, saying 'wolves in sheep's clothing' must be identified. The district meet will conclude on Saturday.

News18 India has achieved a historic milestone of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar PV module manufacturing capacity registered under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), marking a significant leap in the country's renewable energy journey. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, called it a 'remarkable rise" from just 2.3 GW in 2014, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for High-Efficiency Solar Modules. He said the achievement strengthens India's path toward Atmanirbhar Bharat and its target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030. The Government of India's commitment is to make India self-reliant in solar PV manufacturing and establish the country as a major player in the global value chain. This commitment is supported through a comprehensive set of initiatives, including the PLI Scheme for High Efficiency Solar PV Modules and measures to provide a level playing field for the Indian manufacturers. The catalytic effect of these interventions has resulted in an expansion in solar module manufacturing capacity, from just 2.3 GW in 2014 to over 100 GW today. This reinforces India's commitment to achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and contributes meaningfully to global decarbonization efforts. The ALMM Order was issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on 02nd January 2019. The first ALMM list for solar PV modules was published on 10th March 2021 with an initial enlisted capacity of around 8.2 GW. In just over four years, this capacity has grown more than twelvefold, crossing the 100 GW mark. This remarkable expansion is not just limited to depth of capacity achieved, but by the breadth of the number of manufacturers who has also significantly increased from 21 in 2021 to 100 manufacturers, who are operating 123 manufacturing units currently. This growth includes contributions from both established companies and new entrants, many of whom have adopted high-efficiency technologies and vertically integrated operations. The result is a diverse and competitive manufacturing landscape capable of meeting domestic needs and serving global markets.
