NASCAR set for a massive entry list in the 2025 Daytona 500
The 2025 NASCAR season begins with the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on Sunday night, but the regular season won't start for another two weeks. On February 16, NASCAR will take on the 2025 Daytona 500, and the excitement is already through the roof. In fact, the Great American Race is on pace for a shockingly huge entry list.
As of January 28, the 2025 Daytona 500 entry list will include 45 drivers. This is the most significant number of entries since the 2015 Daytona 500, which had 49 drivers almost 10 years ago. The previous high over those 10 years was 44 entries in 2021, and the NextGen car has had the same 42 entries over the last three seasons.
Depending on Helio Castroneves' effort during qualifying and the duels, four or five drivers will go home. If Castroneves can't make it on speed, he will use the new Open Exemption Provisional to lock into the 2025 Daytona 500, leaving four drivers out of the 41-driver field. Some of the notable open entries include Jimmie Johnson (Legacy Motor Club), Martin Truex Jr. (TRICON Garage), and Justin Allgaier (JR Motorsports).
The 2025 Daytona 500 is expected to be one of the most entertaining races in years, and the lead-up to the event will be very special, with so many drivers looking to make the field. NASCAR has been stagnant at 42 entries over the last three years, but the sport is showing signs of significant growth heading into the 2025 season.
