A poll promise that Rae Bareli MP will keep with his Amethi visit

Hindustan Times28-04-2025

When Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi begins his visit to Rae Bareli and Amethi on Tuesday, he will probably be keeping one of the promises he made in the 2024 general election that he will give equal treatment to both the Lok Sabha constituencies.
Rahul Gandhi proposes to visit Amethi on Wednesday after winding up his visit to Rae Bareli beginning Tuesday. Both Rae Bareli and Amethi were considered the bastions of Nehru-Gandhi family till he lost Amethi to Smriti Irani in 2019.
As Rahul Gandhi, who has represented Amethi Lok Sabha seat thrice in 2004, 2009 and 2014, decided to shift to Rae Bareli and field family loyalist KL Sharma from Amethi against then Union minister Smriti Irani in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he promised that he will treat both Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha seats alike. The Congress won both the seats in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
'Yes, Rahul Gandhi is giving equal treatment to both the Lok Sabha seats. When he came to Rae Bareli on a thanksgiving visit, he thanked the people of both the constituencies. He has been meeting the people of both the constituencies alike during his visits to Rae Bareli in the past and this time he is visiting Amethi too,' said Congress MLC Deepak Singh.
The Amethi Congress is also equally enthused as preparations are afoot for Rahul Gandhi's visit. 'This is the first visit of Rahul Gandhi to Amethi after 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He will be attending two programmes in Amethi this time,' said Amethi District Congress Committee president Pradeep Singhal. 'Amethi MP KL Sharma has already reached the constituency,' he added.
Besides visiting ordnance factory project at Korwa, Amethi, Rahul Gandhi proposes to inaugurate an open-heart surgery operation theatre at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Munshiganj, Amethi.
The ordnance factory project facility is for production of AK-203 assault rifles, a Kalashnikov variant, as part of Indo-Russian joint venture. Rahul Gandhi will also pay a visit to Indira Gandhi Nursing College at Munshiganj in the constituency.
In Rae Bareli, he will be inaugurating a solar roof plant and electric charging station on Tuesday. The Congress MP will unveil a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose at Civil Lines, Rae Bareli, and attend a meeting of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at Bachat Bhawan, Rae Bareli.
He will also visit the rail coach factory at Lalganj, Rae Bareli. On Wednesday, before leaving for Amethi, he will meet Congress workers at Bhuemau Guest House.

Train connectivity to transform tourism, boost trade, improve mobility: J&K CM

Katra (J&K) June 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday hailed the rail-link of Kashmir with the rest of the country as a 'historic accomplishment,' stating that the development will boost tourism, trade, and bring comfort in the daily lives of people of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a large gathering at Katra during the inauguration of the Chenab and Anji Bridges and at the flagging off ceremony of the Vande Bharat Train to Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah highlighted the difficulties faced by people during inclement weather when highway closures lead to exorbitant airfares. This marks Kashmir's first all-weather railway connectivity with the rest of India. Also present on the occasion were Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union MoS PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, and other dignitaries. 'The benefits to Jammu and Kashmir will be substantial. Tourism will receive a major boost, and the daily lives of our residents will improve,' the Chief Minister said. 'With this railway line operational, that hardship will be alleviated to a great extent, offering affordable and reliable transportation,' he noted. Speaking about the economic benefits, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of better market access for the region's horticultural produce. 'Our apples, cherries, and other fruit will now find faster and more easy access to markets across the country and even globally. This will provide a significant economic benefit to our growers and traders,' he said. Lauding Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the Chief Minister said that the successful completion of this critical infrastructure project stands as a testament to the Centre's commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir. 'Under PM Modi's stewardship, yet another critical infrastructure project in Jammu and Kashmir has been completed. We are also witnessing rapid progress on other vital initiatives — the Jammu Ring Road, the Srinagar Ring Road, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, and the expansion of both the Jammu and Srinagar airports and the railway network,' he said. The Chief Minister expressed hope that with the Prime Minister's continued support, Jammu and Kashmir will soon regain its status as a full-fledged state. 'Today marks yet another momentous occasion. With your leadership and support, we look forward to Jammu & Kashmir regaining its status as a full-fledged state,' he said. Reflecting on his tryst with key milestones in J&K's rail history, Omar Abdullah recalled his presence at the inauguration of the Anantnag Railway Station, the Banihal Railway Tunnel, and his government's final event at the same venue with PM Modi in 2014. 'You may call it fate, or perhaps destiny, but I have always had the good fortune of being present at key milestones in Jammu and Kashmir's railway journey,' he said. He also recalled that the dream of connecting Kashmir via railway dates back to colonial times. 'Even during British rule, plans were envisioned — such as the proposed Uri and Jhelum railway lines — but they remained unfulfilled. What the British could not achieve, you have made a reality. You have connected Kashmir with the rest of India and, through it, to the wider world. This is a historic accomplishment,' he said. Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he credited him for being the first to recognize the rail network to Kashmir as a project of national importance. 'This progress owes much to the vision of Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, who declared this railway line a project of national importance. Since then, the project has seen consistent progress and budgetary prioritization,' he said. Reaffirming his government's commitment to development, the Chief Minister reiterated his resolve to fulfill the vision of a prosperous region. 'Our government remains committed to the vision of 'Viksit Jammu Kashmir, Viksit Bharat' — a developed Jammu and Kashmir, a developed India — and we are determined to realize this goal for the people of our region.' Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. 'On this historic day, on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to you, Prime Minister. Thank you for your unwavering support and for helping turn decades-old dreams into reality.' UNI VBH BD

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, calls him Pakistan's spokesperson

Rahul Gandhi (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: On the day when Rahul Gandhi 's surrender barb at PM Narendra Modi became a talking point in Pakistan as lawmakers and ministers used his remarks and statements to fuel their anti-India propaganda, BJP on Thursday attacked the Congress MP for alleging that Trump forced India to accept a ceasefire on May 10, with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan saying he is promoting Pakistan propaganda. "Rahul Gandhi is Pakistan's spokesperson. Pakistan would not acknowledge this and he would deny this. But the Congress leader's conduct is the clinching evidence," Pradhan said, adding, "This is not a conspiracy theory, nor is it motivated by partisanship. The proof is in the public domain and for everyone to see. He has been Pakistan's trumpet." Pradhan said from accusing Hindus and Hindutva of violence to lying that India surrendered to foreign pressure to suspend Operation Sindoor , Rahul has unfailingly parroted Islamabad line. "He copies and pastes statements on Pakistan's website and exposes his stupidity," Pradhan said. Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif, in a viral video, could be heard speaking about Rahul's jibe at the Indian govt. "People of India are beginning to realise that their Prime Minister has surrendered," Asif claimed, in an attempt to save his own face after his humiliating takedown during Operation Sindoor. Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju also took note of the viral video and slammed the Congress MP for crossing the line, so much so that it seems to be going against the nation. "There is a limit to stupidity & opposition! There's nobody in Congress Party to tell him that being in the opposition party does not mean, to oppose the nation?" TNN
