Harry Bentley eyes Happy Valley bullseye before tackling Group Ones: ‘he's one I'm really looking forward to'

He's got a couple of Group One rides to look forward to this weekend but it's a Class Three sprinter giving Harry Bentley cause for excitement ahead of Wednesday night's Happy Valley meeting.
After consecutive fast-finishing thirds from double-figure draws, Young Arrow has scored gate two for the second section of the Class Three Ma Wan Handicap (1,200m).
'I really like Young Arrow. He's drawn well for the first time in a very long time, so that's going to help him,' said Bentley, who partners the Douglas Whyte-trained galloper for the fourth straight time.
'He's run massive races the last couple of times. He's knocking on the door and with a good draw he should be thereabouts. He's one I'm really looking forward to.

'He's the one that really stands out to me and would be my best chance,' added Bentley of the four-year-old, who will bid to break his Hong Kong maiden at start nine in the city.
Bentley will also ride Quantum Patch among six rides at the Valley before jumping aboard Patch Of Theta for the same owners in this Sunday's Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1,400m).
'Quantum Patch is carrying a light weight and he's run some good races, so he's definitely one to be considered,' said Bentley ahead of the Class Three Kap Shui Mun Handicap (1,650m).
'It's a tough race for Patch Of Theta, naturally taking on Ka Ying Rising is not going to be easy.

'But he's a really nice horse and he seems a progressive type. I sat on him the other day in a trial and he gave me a lovely feel, so I'm chuffed to pick the ride up.'
Bentley, who sits on 15 wins for the season including eight already in 2025, jumps aboard Winning Dragon for Tony Cruz in Sunday's other Group One, the Gold Cup (2,000m).
'I'm pleased with how the past few weeks have gone. I feel like I've just got a bit of momentum and I'm riding for some good stables, so that's good,' said the jockey.
'To pick up a couple of Group One rides is great. I'm pleased to be riding in them and hopefully we can be competitive.

'Winning Dragon was good last start [when second in the Group Three Centenary Vase (1,800m)].
'He was carrying a light weight, so that helped, but he travelled into the race really well and just got seen off by a very gutsy horse in Chancheng Glory. You never know. It's a tough ask but you've got to give it a crack.'
While he has become accustomed to being the lone English rider on the Hong Kong roster, Bentley will be one of four Britons donning the silks at Happy Valley on Wednesday night with Hollie Doyle, Tom Marquand and Richard Kingscote in town as injury cover.
'It's good to have them in town. I know Richard really well from back home and having ridden against him for many years,' Bentley said.
'He's a top lad so it will be nice to have him around. It makes a bit of a change having a few Brits in town. I've spoken to him. He's had a few questions about how the place works and what not, so hopefully I've steered him in the right direction.'

Group One goals could be on the agenda for Hong Lok Golf next season after the exciting galloper continued his rapid rise with a successful Happy Valley debut on Wednesday night. Derek Leung ‘chasing hard' as he looks to keep good times rolling on Voyage Samurai
Derek Leung Ka-chun hopes Voyage Samurai can overcome his wide draw as he bids for career win number six in the Class Two Cheung Sha Handicap (1,650m) at Happy Valley on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old has been on board for all five of Voyage Samurai's victories, most recently when the pair dominated from gate to wire to win a 1,600m Class Two at Sha Tin in April. As with most of Voyage Samurai's wins, Leung controlled the fractions to a tee before unleashing a powerful turn of foot from the Dissident galloper to fend off any late bursts from his rivals. Frankie Lor Fu-chuen's five-year-old will need to do it the hard way on his maiden Happy Valley run, drawing gate seven of nine, but Leung is confident of bouncing back from a below-par run at Sha Tin last time where he had excuses. 'Prestige Good ran well last time over this course and distance but he also has a bad draw to overcome,' said Leung. 'Thankfully Very Grateful has drawn the inside barrier. His debut was very good and hopefully I can use the draw to get a good position. He will hopefully improve from his first start.' Leung sits on the 28-winner mark for the campaign and is eight behind Matthew Poon Ming-fai, who leads the way in the Tony Cruz Award standings for the leading home-grown rider. 'I still have my eyes on the prize and with the great support of trainers and owners, I will just keep trying to ride as many winners as possible.' The city circuit has been a happy hunting ground for Leung recently, with the rider winning the Jockey Challenge at two of the past three meetings. Two meetings ago Leung rode a brilliant treble headlined by the last-gasp success of Gracious Express, while his prior Jockeys Challenge win saw him pinch the spoils despite not riding a winner.

Hong Lok Golf steps into the unknown: ‘If you never try, you never know'

Victorious in five of six career starts – all at Sha Tin – including the past three on the bounce, Hong Lok Golf will step into unfamiliar territory for the Class Two Cheung Sha Handicap (1,650m). Fresh from a successful Sha Tin Sunday thanks to the victory of Perfectday, trainer Chris So Wai-yin is confident his stable star will take to the city circuit despite having never even trialled there. 'We didn't have too many options for him but owner [Jackie Wong See-sum] really wanted to race him again, so we picked Happy Valley,' said So. So was thrilled to see Hong Lok Golf draw barrier four for his first appearance at the tight-turning Valley track, ensuring regular jockey Harry Bentley has options. 'It's a small field and having that good draw is most important. The horse is flexible – he can go in front or come from behind – and his form is still good,' said So of Hong Lok Golf, who coasted into second in a recent dirt trial. 'His trial was OK. Cody Mo Wai-kit's charge, who Hong Lok Golf defeated in that Class Two in early May, was hit with a 21-point ratings hike for his troubles. Should Hong Lok Golf win again on Wednesday night and lift his rating well into the 90s, however, So will consider backing him up in the Group Three Premier Plate (1,800m) at Sha Tin on June 22. 'For the Group Three on the 31st, the handicap was no good for us. Cody's horse went up 21 points. That's no good – it's tough to win again,' said So. 'Maybe, we will see [whether we go to the Premier Plate] – let's see how he runs this week first. I want to give him a chance to run at Happy Valley and then we will see. 'I think the 1,650m is suitable for him now but eventually he may need further.' Hong Lok Golf is one of four runners for So at the fourth-last Valley meeting of the season. He also saddles up Young Striker, Our Lucky Glory and Know At Heart.
