Akani Simbine snatches a 3rd Diamond League win

JOHANNESBURG – Akani Simbine claimed his third 100m Diamond League win of 2025 in Rabat on Sunday.,
The 31-year-old sprinter stretched his unbeaten 100m record to five international meets.
His pace over the final 30 or so metres was too much for the field as he streaked to an easy win, clocking 9.95sec ahead of Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala (10.05) and Olympic bronze medallist Fred Kerley of the US (10.07).
"I feel great, I feel confident, I am happy that I could take the win today and that I can finish this month strong and healthy. Another sub-10 in the bag, so slowly we go down in time which is really great. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and going back to training in Italy to get ready for the next Diamond League' said Simbine to reporters afterwards.

Simbine's 9.90 seconds from the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in April remains as the official world lead for 2025.
"It's amazing to have this kind of competition in Africa. I wish we had so much more of them. Look at the stands, people love watching sports. It's really great to run on this continent, showcasing African talent and show the world that we can host great meets."
The Olympian has won three 100m Diamond League events this season and a medal at the World Indoors and anchored Team SA to gold in the 4x100m World Relays.

Next Stay Close ✕ Sesko, who has scored 16 goals in 41 international appearances, is United's third major signing in attack following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha for £62.5m and Bryan Mbeumo for £65m with £6m in add-ons. "The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future," said Sesko. 'When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon." Sesko had also been linked with Newcastle, but once again Eddie Howe's League Cup winners failed to land their target despite being able to offer European football this season, unlike Manchester United. The 32-year-old is unwanted by parent club Mamelodi Sundowns and has been training on his own as he looks for a new club. During the FIFA Club World Cup, Lorch turned a few heads with his performance against some of the biggest clubs in the world. As a result of performing on the world stage, it's thought he will not struggle in his search. Wydad had been keen to keep him permanently after his loan ended, but the club couldn't reach a deal with Sundowns. Now, further reports suggest he could be returning to Wydad. According to KickOff, the club are keen to go back to the negotiating table to hash out a deal for the player who became a favourite among fans.

Tahiti's Olympic surfing gold medallist Kauli Vaast was among the standouts on Thursday as the Lexus Tahiti Pro got under way in huge, perfect waves at his home break of Teahupo'o, with California's Griffin Colapinto also starring in the heavy tubes. The venue for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Teahupo'o again delivered stellar conditions for the world's top surfers in the final event of the regular season. The top five men and women surfers at season's end win a spot in the World Surf League's one-day, winner-takes-all Finals in Fiji later this month. Vaast, who competes on the second-tier challenger series, was given a wild card and consistently found himself on the heaviest waves, racking up a two-wave total of 16.30 out of a possible 20. 'I really want to win here,' said Vaast, who made the final of the championship tour event in 2022. 'I have a second place to better. I'm surrounded by great people ... they cheer for me and I'm really proud they are here and I want to do good for them again.' Brazil's Tokyo Olympic gold medallist and reigning Tahiti Pro champion Italo Ferreira was another standout in the first heat of the morning, but it was Colapinto who finished with the highest heat score of the day with 18 points for two long, deep tubes.
