Muscat: The second edition of Oman Water Week 2025 will officially kick off on Sunday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, with wide participation from the world countries.
The week begins with a series of field visits offering participants a unique opportunity to explore some of the Sultanate's most significant water infrastructure projects.
The event is expected to attract more than 2,500 participants, including over 100 international and regional speakers, and more than 60 exhibitors representing 25+ countries, positioning it as one of the region's most prominent specialised gatherings in the water sector.
The official conference of Oman Water Week will commence on Monday morning, under the patronage of HH Sayyid Dr Fahad Al Julanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of SQU, in the presence of ministers, senior officials, and water sector specialists from Oman, the GCC, and around the world.
Representatives from global water organisations and institutions will also be in attendance.
Commenting on the global event, Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services, stated that Oman Water Week 2025, hosted by Nama Water Services with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Authority for Public Services Regulation, serves as a strategic platform to showcase and discuss the latest developments in water sustainability, innovation, and technology.
He added that the field visits aim to highlight Nama Water Services' efforts in developing sustainable solutions for the water sector and achieving a balance between rapid economic growth and environmental sustainability — in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
Al Zakwani emphasised: 'Dedicating a full week to water-related discussions and activities clearly reflects the critical importance of this sector. It also underlines the need to empower it with all the necessary resources and capabilities to ensure its sustainability, ultimately achieving water security — a top priority for nations around the globe. This goal can only be realized through joint efforts and shared visions among all stakeholders.'
The event gathers a distinguished group of experts, professionals, and decision-makers from both the public and private sectors, offering a valuable platform to discuss current challenges and future opportunities in water resource management.
The week also includes several specialised workshops and technical sessions, presenting successful regional and global case studies, promoting knowledge exchange, and encouraging collaboration across various sectors.

Grape festival in North Sharqiyah targets farming innovation
Ibra – North Sharqiyah will host a grape festival from June 16, aimed at supporting local agriculture, promoting grape cultivation and encouraging youth-led ventures in the sector. Organised by the Office of the Governor of North Sharqiyah in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the North Sharqiyah Grape Festival forms part of efforts to revitalise Oman's agricultural landscape. Grapes are among the most widely cultivated and commercially promising fruit crops in the sultanate. Organisers are expecting that the event will offer an opportunity to market Omani grapes, raise awareness about their economic potential, and encourage young people to view grape farming as a viable business. 'This festival will give a boost to agricultural projects that contribute to food security and the national economy,' a spokesperson said. 'It will also serve as a platform to inspire Omani youth to venture into agricultural entrepreneurship through investment in the production and marketing of grapes – a crop that is widely cultivated in several wilayats of the governorate.' The event will showcase innovations, highlight success stories of local farmers, and promote the exchange of technical knowledge. Organisers also hope to promote community awareness about the sector's potential, expand grape cultivation areas, and improve annual output over the coming years. The initiative seeks to open new marketing channels, attract private sector participation across the grape value chain, and develop the concept of contract farming in coordination with agricultural associations. These steps are expected to create new jobs for Omanis and strengthen the sector's role in rural development. Festival activities will include exhibitions of grape products and handicrafts, expert-led discussions on farming practices, cultural contests, and entertainment programmes for children. With rising interest in agricultural tourism and food security, the North Sharqiyah Grape Festival is expected to attract visitors from across the country and the wider region.

New public transport hub to come up in Buraimi
Buraimi – The Governorate of Buraimi and Mwasalat signed an agreement last week to establish a new integrated public transport station in the wilayat of Buraimi. The project forms part of efforts to expand sustainable mobility infrastructure under Oman Vision 2040. The new transport station will be developed in the North Aqda area on a 56,000sqm plot, serving both intercity and local routes. Facilities will include a smart taxi terminal, micro-mobility options, air-conditioned waiting areas, commercial and logistics spaces, parking for buses and private vehicles, as well as dedicated offices for operations. The agreement was signed in the presence of H E Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, Governor of Buraimi, signed on behalf of the governorate, while Eng Bader bin Mohammed al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, represented the company. Under the terms of the agreement, Mwasalat will take on technical responsibilities including design specifications and implementation oversight. The company will also manage and operate the station once it is completed. The governorate will provide funding and manage regulatory aspects such as land allocation and zoning approvals. Busaidi said the station would support a shift in the public transport landscape in Buraimi. 'The station will serve a large number of passengers, especially with the 12 daily trips between Muscat and Buraimi,' he said. 'It will also reinforce Buraimi's position as a key transit point along the Muscat-Abu Dhabi corridor.' Eng Nadabi said the project also has commercial potential. 'A tender for the station's development and operation will be issued shortly,' he said. 'Construction is due to begin within three months and is expected to be completed in three years.' The initiative aligns with Oman's national objective to enhance domestic connectivity and promote governorates as regional centres for transport and logistics.
