Efforts to strengthen religious institutions must remain a priority, says Tuanku Muhriz in Maal Hijrah address
His Royal Highness said that religious issues must be referred to religious authorities and should not be interpreted by individuals or groups, as doing so could lead to confusion, tension, and conflict within society.
"I fully support all initiatives aimed at upholding the sovereignty of Islam.
"I believe the Mentri Besar and the state administrative machinery will carry out their responsibilities with determination and dedication to ensure that the agenda of unity among the people of this state is effectively implemented," His Royal Highness said in the royal address in conjunction with the state-level Maal Hijrah 1447 celebrations at Masjid Negeri here Thursday (June 26).
Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, and their sons, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin and Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin were also in attendance.
Tuanku Muhriz also stressed that while Islam holds a special position in the country, its sanctity must be upheld without compromising the rights and fairness of the practice of other religions.
The Negri Sembilan Ruler said that just as the Hijrah (migration) marked the exaltation of Islam's dignity and civilisation, society too must embark on its form of migration by striving to improve moral character, sincerity, and diligence in daily life, following Islamic teachings.
"In essence, Hijrah begins within each individual. A renewal of attitude grounded in noble and virtuous values is the foundation for building a more dignified society and a more excellent nation. This emphasis must also begin at home, through religious upbringing, love, and the exemplary conduct of parents," His Royal Highness said.
Tuanku Muhriz said the transformation process becomes more meaningful when guided by knowledge, as it allows individuals to understand the wisdom behind religious commandments, discern right from wrong, and make wise decisions when choosing the correct path in life.
"Thus, a hijrah guided by knowledge will lead to more genuine transformation and bring about a positive impact not only on the individual but also on the community," Tuanku Muhriz added.
Tuanku Muhriz stated that the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrates that Islam is not a religion concerned solely with spiritual practices, but a comprehensive and complete way of life that encompasses all aspects of human existence, including both worldly affairs and the hereafter. - Bernama

Anwar received plenty of messages from world leaders congratulating him on the handling of the potentially dangerous conflict between two neighbouring countries. It was a huge test for him as the Chair of ASEAN, but he pulled off magnificently as he brought the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to Kuala Lumpur for a dialogue. He also made sure that officials from the US and China, the two important players in the region, were present to observe the talks. It is also evident that Malaysia's neutral posture of not taking sides has shown positive results, as that brought the two countries, locked in conflict, to the negotiating table. Trump himself reportedly intervened in the ceasefire negotiations by threatening both parties with heavy tariffs, but Malaysia's central role in mediating the agreement gave it diplomatic capital. At the same time, Malaysia scored a much-needed economic reprieve after the US agreed to scale back steep tariffs that had been threatening Malaysia's export-driven economy. At one point, Washington had threatened Malaysia with reciprocal tariffs of up to 25 per cent in retaliation for what it claimed were unfair trade practices and currency. This week, the White House agreed to lower the rate to 19 per cent, offering breathing room to Malaysia's key sectors, especially electronics and palm oil. The sound of relief could be heard across the nation. Without doubt, Anwar was properly prepared by officials for his telephone conversation with Trump. But as many world leaders would know, an element of uncertainty can also be expected when dealing with Trump, as some US allies have ended up with high tariffs. Both cases, which Anwar handled well, demonstrated strategic diplomacy which was carried out with precision and the personal charm offensive, which Anwar is good at. By now, world leaders would have watched how Anwar has the ability to lift up the phone to call his counterparts. The world will certainly now see that there is value in Malaysia as a stabilising force and an economic partner. The week has not just been a personal success for Anwar and his government, but as one analyst put it, they are a reminder that middle powers like Malaysia can shape outcomes when they choose engagement over posturing. Thai veteran journalist Kavi Chongkittavorn wrote that Anwar has now positioned himself as a peacemaker. 'ASEAN is doing a somersault. It just needs decisive leadership,' he said, pointing out that Anwar got the US and China to be present, which was another coup, as 'both superpowers rarely collaborate on anything these days. Yet both sent envoys to support the ASEAN Chair's initiative.' These successes are not just wins for Anwar's government; they are reminders that middle powers like Malaysia can shape outcomes when they choose engagement over posturing. Writing in the Thai PBS World, he described that on the regional stage, 'PMX just had his finest hours.'' On the economic front, Malaysia has ended up having the same 19 per cent tariff as Indonesia and the Philippines. However, in Jakarta and Manila, there has been reported unhappiness that they have given in too much to Trump. Malaysia stood its ground that it would not allow the red lines to be crossed, particularly on its Bumiputera policy during negotiations. Istana Negara: Sultan Ibrahim to make historic state visit to Russia
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia will make history as the first Malaysian Head of State to conduct a state visit to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. – Bernama photo KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 2): His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, will undertake a state visit to Russia from August 5 to 10, 2025, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. In a statement today, Istana Negara announced that His Majesty will make history as the first Malaysian Head of State to conduct a state visit to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. 'This visit also reflects the important role of the Malaysian monarchy in advancing the nation's diplomacy,' it said. Istana Negara added that the visit will not only strengthen existing bilateral relations but also open new avenues for cooperation in various fields, including trade, higher education, technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties. As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia will also play a major role in enhancing strategic cooperation, particularly in the context of Russia's status as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1996, it added. While in Moscow, Istana Negara said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim will be accorded a state welcome ceremony at the Kremlin by President Vladimir Putin, followed by an official meeting between the two Heads of State. 'His Majesty will also attend a state banquet hosted by the President of the Russian Federation,' Istana Negara said. His Majesty is then scheduled to visit the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute (NAMI) as well as the Tochka Kipeniya Technology and Innovation Hub. After concluding his programme in Moscow, His Majesty will travel to Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan on Aug 8, 2025. Tatarstan is one of Russia's autonomous republics, with a Muslim-majority population.
