Significant percentage of employers plan to hire freshers with AI-related roles in H1 2025: Report
Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly reshaping the country's job market and a significant percentage of employers intend to hire freshers with varied AI-related roles in the first half of this year, a report said on Tuesday.
According to TeamLease EdTech's recent Career Outlook Report 2025, over 74 per cent of employers in the country intend to hire freshers during January-June 2025.
AI-related roles are taking the lead in the job market, which is in line with the government's push to reinstate the country's commitment to technological progression and workforce growth.
"The evolving job market is redefining how talent is evaluated. Employers are no longer just hiring for degrees, they're prioritising skills in areas like data visualization, cloud computing, and robotics.
"This shift is creating unparalleled opportunities for freshers to step into high-impact roles and become key drivers of innovation across industries," TeamLease EdTech Head of Employability Business and COO Jaideep Kewalramani said.
TeamLease EdTech's recent 'Career Outlook Report 2025' is based on a survey among 649 employers across India.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that after AI, 70 per cent of players in e-commerce and technology start-ups are planning to hire freshers, followed by the manufacturing sector at 66 per cent and engineering and infrastructure at 62 per cent.
Cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai remain key employment hubs, with hiring intent in these cities reaching 78 per cent, 65 per cent, and 57 per cent, respectively.
Companies are seeking talent that understands robotic process automation, performance marketing, network security, and financial risk analysis, said the report.
In terms of essential technology tools, employers prioritise productivity and collaboration tools (83 per cent), project management software (73 per cent), and data visualization tools (64 per cent), it added.

Bike Taxis Come To Halt In Karnataka As High Court Ban Kicks In
Bengaluru: Bike taxi services operated by app-based aggregators came to a standstill in Karnataka on Monday following the High Court's directive to suspend operations. Complying with the order, bike taxi options were removed from ride-hailing apps such as Ola, Uber and Rapido. Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy confirmed the development, stating that the companies must abide by the court's decision. "Three months ago, the court ruled that bike taxis are illegal. It initially gave six weeks, and then another six weeks on request. Now that 12 weeks have passed, the aggregators must follow the High Court order," Mr Reddy told PTI. On Friday, a division bench of the Karnataka High Court refused to stay an earlier single-judge order that suspended bike taxi services in the state. The division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar, was hearing appeals filed by Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd, ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd (which operates Ola), and Roppen Transportation Services Pvt Ltd (which operates Rapido), among others. The companies had challenged the April 2 ruling that directed them to halt bike taxi services within six weeks. The deadline was later extended till June 15. The single judge had observed that such services cannot operate unless the state government notifies specific rules and guidelines under the Motor Vehicles Act. The division bench noted that it would have considered granting a stay on the order if the state had indicated progress in drafting the rules. However, the government stated that it had taken a policy decision not to frame such regulations, leading the court to deny relief to the aggregators. The bench issued notices to the state government and other respondents, setting the next hearing for June 24. Meanwhile, Ola Uber Drivers and Owners' Association president Tanveer Pasha demanded strict enforcement of the order. "The government should seize bikes operating illegally and take legal action against violators," he said. Rapido, in a statement, acknowledged the court's decision and expressed concern for its riders. "Even though we are not the initiating party in the ongoing case, we have remained engaged as a responsible stakeholder. This is a challenging time for our captains-many of whom rely on bike taxis as their primary income source," it said. The company reiterated its commitment to working with the government and Transport Department to develop a regulatory framework that is "compliant, sustainable, and future-ready." "Our priority is to protect the interests of gig workers while ensuring commuter safety. We are actively pursuing all avenues to support our captains and hope our dialogue with the government leads to a viable policy, as seen in several other states and union territories," Rapido added. Uber also confirmed the suspension of its bike taxi services from June 16. "This decision affects thousands of riders and drivers who depend on bike taxis daily. We will continue to engage with the Government of Karnataka to help develop a progressive policy that ensures safe, accessible, and affordable mobility for all," the company said. India hopeful of positive outcome from talks over China's rare earth import issue, says official
New Delhi, June 16 (PTI) India is hopeful of a positive outcome from its engagement with China to address issues related to Beijing's export curbs on rare earth magnets, which are mainly used in the auto sector, a top government official said on Monday. China's restrictions on the export of rare earth elements and related magnets are affecting the domestic auto and white goods sectors. The automobile industry has sought government support in expediting approvals from the Chinese government for importing rare earth magnets used in various applications, including passenger cars. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said that these curbs are against all the countries and are not against India only. Since it is impacting the auto sector more, the government is in talks with both the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). "We are facilitating them to have discussions with their counterparts in China and at the diplomatic level the external affairs ministry and the department of commerce also have spoken to the Ambassador over there," he told reporters here. He added that both diplomatic and commercial discussions are going on with China on the issue. "We are making all the efforts to see that these essential items of imports can come to I feel that this diplomatic and commercial communication should yield a positive result," Barthwal said. China has brought a regime where "perhaps licences will be required, so we are facilitating our importers and our auto players in whatever way possible," he said. As per the industry sources, various domestic suppliers have already sought approval from the Chinese government through their local vendors in China. China controls over 90 per cent of the global processing capacity for magnets, used across multiple sectors including automobiles, home appliances and clean energy. The Chinese government has put restrictions, with effect from April 4, mandating special export licences for seven rare earth elements and related magnets. Critical materials include samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium and lutetium, which are essential in electric motors, braking systems, smartphones and missile technology.

Piyush Goyal's helicopter faces technical snag, compels him to shelve aerial survey in Andhra
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was compelled to shelve an aerial survey of Kriscity, a new SEZ, in Andhra Pradesh on Monday after the helicopter assigned for his flight developed a technical snag, said a police official. Tirupati district superintendent of police V Harshavardhan Raju said Goyal cancelled his survey plan after being informed about the technical snag.
