British holidaymaker was in relationship with daughter-in-law he 'attempted to drown in Florida swimming pool'

A British holidaymaker accused of trying to drown his daughter-in-law was in a romantic relationship with her, according to reports. Mark Gibbon, 62, was with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida when he reportedly got into an argument with Jasmine Wyld, 33, over the "stipulations of his will". According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Gibbon attempted to push Wyld under the swimming pool at their place near Disney World. His granddaughter, nine, is said to have jumped into the pool to try and save her mother but he pushed her away. Gibbon reportedly stopped the alleged attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters said they had called 911. According to the Daily Mail, Gibbon and Ms Wyld have been in a relationship for the last two years after both of their marriages broke down. His ex-wife lives alone at their £800,000 semi-detached home in Buckinghamshire, while Wyld separated from Gibson's son Alex, with whom she shares two young children, in 2021. A family source revealed that Alex and Mark no longer speak, and last year the son was jailed for trying to drive a car at his estranged father. The source said: 'He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children. 'Mark and Jasmine do an awful lot together and they go away on holiday with the children a couple of times every year. 'I don't know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her. 'But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years and she is not named in his will.' Gibbon is a lighting technician who runs his own company, MRG Lighting, and has worked on music videos for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith. Alex, 34, had worked with Mark and was appointed a director at another of his father's companies, Ultralight UK Ltd, in 2019. He was even involved in the production of The Queen's Christmas Day speech a few years ago. However, Alex left the firm two years ago and is said to have had a heated row with Mark in the streets. He's a lovely guy... or so it seems to us The family source claimed Alex attempted to drive away, but his father jumped in front of him to stop him and was hit by the car. Alex reportedly served time in prison and was released six months ago. He now lives with his mother. Neighbours in Buckinghamshire told of their shock of the alleged drowning, with one saying: 'He's a lovely guy, or so it seems to us, I didn't think he was capable of such a thing.' Gibbon, of Beaconsfield, was taken into custody on August 3 just after 5.15pm local time. He allegedly admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law and girlfriend under the water but denied trying to drown her. He has now been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. Gibbon is due in court on September 9.

Ellison outlines vision for new Paramount with focus on content and technology

By Dawn Chmielewski LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Paramount's new chairman and chief executive, David Ellison, outlined a plan to transform the century-old entertainment company into a technology-driven media enterprise in an open letter marking the completion of the merger with Skydance Media. Ellison said the company would work to transform Paramount by investing in growth businesses that are anchored in its storytelling, working to scale its streaming business globally, and reorganizing the company to make it more efficient. "We are in the midst of a generational change in our industry - and we understand Paramount has faced its own significant challenges, compounded by the reality of a merger process that stretched out over a considerable time period," Ellison wrote. "But that time of uncertainty is now behind us. Moving forward, we will work with conviction and optimism to transform Paramount into a tech-forward company that blends the creative heart of Hollywood with the innovative spirit of Silicon Valley." Paramount Global and Skydance Media Thursday completed their $8.4 billion merger that was announced more than a year ago, capping a long drawn-out deal process marked by political scrutiny and shareholder concerns. Ellison said he plans to reorganize Paramount into three business units - studios, direct-to-consumer and TV media - to speed decision-making. He plans to move the company onto a single technology platform to reduce costs, and said the company would find efficiencies associated with labor, real estate and procurement, with the goal of achieving a previously announced $2 billion in cost savings. New Paramount will direct resources "to what matters most," Ellison wrote, delivering more movies, television series, sports, news and games to global audiences. Paramount will harness technology, not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a tool to amplify creativity. "From virtual production stages that unleash filmmakers' limitless imaginations, to AI‑assisted localization that brings shows to new language markets overnight, to a proprietary ad‑tech stack that maximizes yield across streaming and linear platforms, we will thoughtfully integrate these tools into every aspect of our work," Ellison wrote. Ellison said the company would prioritize growing its streaming business, increasing investment in high-quality exclusive content, which he called the "single biggest driver of subscriber growth." Sports is a key component of the streaming strategy, as a tool to retain subscribers and keep them watching. The company plans to move its subscription streaming service, Paramount+, and its free ad-supported PlutoTV service onto the same technology, to help save money and improve the consumer experience. Ellison laid out the company's core commitments, including to its embattled CBS News division. He acknowledged the journalists' "unwavering commitment" to the news business, and added: "We take immense pride in CBS News' legacy of impactful journalism and look forward to continuing to foster a newsroom culture where journalists are empowered, trusted, and equipped to do their best work." In its effort to gain regulatory approval of the merger, Skydance told the Federal Communications Commission that it would appoint an ombudsman to evaluate complaints of editorial bias or other concerns about CBS. It also offered assurances that they were committed to unbiased journalism. Democrat Anna Gomez, the FCC's dissenter, accused Paramount of "cowardly capitulation" to the Trump administration. She also said the FCC was imposing "never-before-seen controls over newsroom decisions."

KJ Apa Set to Star as James Stewart in Upcoming Biopic JIMMY — GeekTyrant

KJ Apa is stepping into the shoes of a Hollywood legend. The Riverdale star has officially signed on to play legendary actor James Stewart in an upcoming biopic titled Jimmy . The film will explore Stewart's journey from small-town Pennsylvania to Oscar-winning Hollywood actor and World War II hero. Apa shared his excitement about the role, saying: 'I have always been a huge James Stewart fan and feel so honored I get to bring his story to life. As someone from New Zealand, I've long admired that generation of American men who stood for patriotism, integrity, and a deep sense of duty. 'It is important to me to give back to a country that has given me so much, and what better way to do that than by honoring a man who served it with great honor.' Directed and produced by Aaron Burns, Jimmy will chronicle Stewart's early acting career, his Academy Award win for The Philadelphia Story , and his brave service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. The story continues with his post-war return to Hollywood and his iconic role in It's a Wonderful Life , directed by Frank Capra, who will be portrayed by Max Casella. The film also features Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez, and Jen Lilley as Stewart's wife, Gloria. Stewart's daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, is executive producing the project and voiced her support for Apa's casting. 'My family and I are delighted and excited that KJ Apa has agreed to play my father in this film,' she said. 'In addition to his considerable acting skills, KJ's enthusiasm for the project will only add to the energy and depth he will bring to the role.' Burns expressed how Stewart's real-life legacy inspired the film, saying, 'Jimmy Stewart is universally beloved as an actor. He truly embodied the everyman. We all know him from It's A Wonderful Life , but as I discovered his real-life story as a World War II military hero, I realized Jimmy's life makes for an amazing movie. 'I'm truly honored that Kelly Stewart-Harcourt and the Stewart family have entrusted Burns & Co. to share Jimmy with the world, and I'm excited to see KJ Apa and the rest of our amazing cast bring this story to life.' Scripted by Justin Strawhand, the film will be produced by Strawhand, Burns, David Cook, Angela Galgani Sullivan, and John Norton of Redted Media. Executive producers include Andre Caraco, Jack McClintock, Bob Gordon, Sam Juergens, Amy K. Mitchell, Edwina Forkin, Kip Konwiser, Walter Krumm III, and Brian Williams. Principal photography kicks off in West Cork, Ireland, on September 1, with the support of the Screen Ireland Nationwide Fund. Jimmy is set for a U.S. theatrical release in November 2026. Before that, Apa will be seen next in The Map That Leads to You , a romantic drama directed by Lasse Hallström and co-starring Madelyn Cline, premiering August 20 on Prime Video. Source: Variety
