The demolition was carried out following the consecration of
Lord Hanuman
and Lord Ganesha idols at another temple in the same area.
The road widening project is being undertaken by Division 2 of the
State Public Works Department
(PWD), under the supervision of executive engineer Chandrashekhar Giri. "The existing seven metres wide road will be expanded to 10 metres. In addition, 1.5-metre-wide paver blocks will be installed on both sides," said Giri, adding that the total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 3 crore.
Giri also stated that the consent of all concerned parties was obtained before the demolition. The road widening work had been stalled for years due to objections related to demolition.
On Tuesday, under Giri's guidance, SDE Sandip Shende and section engineer Anup Gujar led the demolition efforts. The operation began at 6 am to minimise traffic disruption and was completed within an hour.
