Help! How do I wear metallics without looking like a disco ball?

Daily Mail14-06-2025
PROBLEM
'I love fashion but while I'm good at planning outfits, I don't know how to accessorise them. I want to learn how to wear this summer's metallic pieces.'
SOLUTION
Metallics are great for making an outfit feel special but can be intimidating to wear. One fail-safe tip would be to pair them with matt fabrics like linen or cotton. If in doubt, dip into the trend with a pair of strappy shoes or a chunky necklace.
VERDICT
'These gold sandals have changed my life! I'm already thinking of how many of my outfits I can wear them with for a 2025 refresh. I feel perfectly on trend thanks to a few clever accessories.'

Khamzat Chimaev issues five-word response to White House fight speculation

Khamzat Chimaev has played down the idea that he could fight at a potential UFC event at the White House, making a self-deprecating joke about his chances. US president Donald Trump recently said he would like to stage a UFC fight card at the White House in 2026, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his country. That led to a number of top stars expressing their desire to be involved, including Conor McGregor, who has not fought since 2021, and a man seen by some fans as the greatest fighter of all time: Jon Jones, who said he could reverse his recent retirement to compete at the White House. Yet Russian star Chimaev did not exactly throw his own name in the hat, when asked about the prospect on Wednesday (6 August). 'Bro, look at my face,' Chimaev told MMA Junkie playfully. He added: 'I don't think they would let me come or whatever.' Chimaev, 31, is widely considered one of the scariest talents in the UFC, and after suffering from injury and illness in recent years, he will finally challenge for a title on 16 August. The 'Wolf' will face middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 319 in Chicago, and he hinted that Trump might have helped him to get a Visa. The unbeaten Chimaev last fought in the US in 2022, and his two fights since then have taken place in Abu Dhabi. Rumours long circulated that the Russian was unable to travel to the US, and he said on Wednesday: 'This wasn't my bad, wasn't my fault. 'Everyone knows I didn't have a Visa to the US, that's why I didn't fight [there]. So now, Donald Trump, he heard, so we go for a fight.' Trump is close friends with UFC president Dana White, who said he is eager to bring a potential White House fight card to life.

From cashmere knits to collared jackets and cord trousers, there was a lot to preview – and to get me excited for autumn. I left that afternoon thinking about one item in particular: a pair of straight jeans from the JW Anderson collection that I knew were going to be the perfect fit as soon as I'd pulled them from the rack. So, a few days later, I set out to find the pair in the Uniqlo store on Kensington High Street. As I swerved the rows of tees and parkas, and headed straight for the denim section, I was prepared to leave disappointed and place an online order (the collaboration with JW Anderson often sells out, after all). But, as luck would have it, the jeans were still in stock in different washes and a decent number of sizes. After beelining for the fitting rooms with three pairs, I ended up leaving with just one, though I'm already thinking about splurging on another colour when my next pay day rolls around. So, let's get into the details. I'm talking about are Straight Jeans from the Uniqlo x JW Anderson collection. They're a classic, five-pocket style with a mid-rise waist, and are available in three washes (light, mid and indigo blue) and three lengths (29inch, 31inch and 33inch). While they're made from 100% cotton (a composition I usually avoid when I'm shopping for jeans because it means there's no stretch), these don't need to be 'worn in' and are very comfortable to wear from the start. Plus, their clean straight cut (bar from a discrete JW Anderson logo on the back pocket) makes them look far more expensive than their high street price tag. They're also some of the best-fitting jeans I've ever tried on. After some hesitation (I wanted to size up for a more relaxed fit), I ended up going for a size 30 as there is minimal gaping at the back. And the 31inch length is just right for my 5ft 8inch frame, hitting at the ankle when I'm wearing trainers or loafers (although I think the 33inch length would be better come autumn, when I want to team the jeans with heeled ankle boots). They're just £35, too. Get a pair before they go viral on TikTok.
