Khaleej Times5 days ago

Temperatures in the UAE are once again expected to drop on Tuesday, May 27, according to the National Centre of Meteorology, bringing residents respite from the rising heat.
The UAE hit the highest temperature in the country on Saturday (May 24), hitting a scorching 51.6°C at 1.45pm, according to the NCM. The temperature was recorded at Sweihan in Al Ain.
This extreme heat marks one of the highest temperatures recorded so far this season, signaling an early start to the intense summer heat that typically grips the country in the coming months.
The weather tomorrow is expected to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid conditions are likely by night and Wednesday morning over some northern coastal areas.
Light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly winds are set to blow, freshening at times during daytime, causing blowing dust, with a speed of 10-25 km/hr, reaching 40 km/hr.
The sea will be moderate and may become rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Oman Sea.
Temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 23°C in Al Dhaid and reach a high of 46°C in some parts of Abu Dhabi.

UAE weather tomorrow: Temperatures to decrease; could get dusty at times

As the UAE weather department had predicted a few days ago, temperatures continue to dip across the country. The forecast for Saturday, May 31 is for partly cloudy skies with a gradual decrease in temperatures, according to the bulletin issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). It could get dusty at times with blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility at times, with a speed of 15kmph and 30kmph, reaching 40kmph. The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate, becoming rough by evening in Oman Sea. It will be mostly sunny in Abu Dhabi with temperatures in the UAE capital likely to see a high of 40°C and a low of 28°C, while in Dubai, it will be 43°C with a low of 27°C. Sharjah will witness a high of 42°C and a low of 28°C. The NCM had on May 27 said that after days of intense heat, residents across the UAE can look forward to some cooler days. Temperatures will begin to dip by four to five degrees in the coming days, a senior meteorologist had said. The scorching conditions were caused by an internal low-pressure system from the south of the UAE, pushing hot desert air across the region. Last weekend saw temperatures soar to a staggering 51.6°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, marking the hottest May day ever recorded in the country since 2003. The previous record stood at 50.2°C in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, experienced in 2009.

Air-conditioning fault leaves passengers stuck on plane in Dubai's 47°C heat

Passengers on a British Airways flight from Dubai felt the heat when an air-conditioning fault grounded the plane on a day of record high temperatures. Travellers were subjected to sweltering conditions on board the Boeing 787 plane while it remained at Dubai International Airport for about two hours due to a power failure that prevented cabin airflow and cooling systems from operating. The aircraft was diverted to a cargo area of the airport while repairs were carried out, British newspaper The Independent reported. The flight left Dubai for London after the malfunction was fixed. 'We thank our customers for their patience while we resolved a technical issue with the aircraft,' said a British Airways spokesperson in a statement shared to media. 'Our crew provided water to customers on board and worked hard to ensure our customers remained as comfortable as possible whilst we resolved the issue.' The incident took place on Saturday, when temperatures in Dubai soared to 47°C and exceeded 50°C in other parts of the Emirates. The mercury rose to 51.6°C in the Sweihan area close to Al Ain, a record for the month of May in the UAE. The previous record high of 50.4°C, also in Abu Dhabi emirate, was set the previous day.
