2 dead, 2 injured in Fairview, Oklahoma shooting; OSBI investigating

State authorities are investigating after a shooting left two dead and two critically injured over the weekend in Fairview, a city of about 2,700 people an hour-and-half northwest of Oklahoma City in Major County. Around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, officers with the Fairview Police Department responded to a house near Sylvia St. and East State Road, according to a news release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. When police arrived, they said they found four people with gunshot wounds. A 49-year-old man and 17-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release. A 44-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy were also transported to a local hospital in critical condition. As of Sunday morning, the two were still alive but hospitalized, OSBI spokesman Hunter McKee said. McKee clarified to The Oklahoman that no other people were involved in the incident and that the investigation was ongoing. "We just want to make it clear that the public is safe," McKee said Sunday. "We're still piecing together what led up to the shooting at the house, but no one else was involved." McKee said that, due to the ages of the minors who were shot, he was uncertain when the OSBI would be releasing the identities of the victims. But he suggested more updates might be provided at a possible news conference later in the week. "The OSBI appreciates the Fairview Police Department, Major County Sheriff's Office, and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for their assistance with this investigation," the agency said in its statement Sunday. Two men, including suspect, die after officer-involved shooting at Enid hospital Sunday

Two people are dead after a shooting involving police officers at a hospital in Enid, about 100 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, officers with the Enid Police Department responded to a domestic issue at a residence near E. Walnut Avenue and N. 12th Street in Enid. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, now the lead agency on the case, said that police had identified an adult male suspect who had come to Integris Health Hospital, where officers said they'd found the suspect's vehicle. "When they tried to make contact with the suspect outside of the hospital doors, the suspect fired at the officers and then he made his way inside," Hunter McKee, a spokesman for the OSBI, said Monday, Aug. 18. McKee said that the man fired multiple shots while inside the hospital. A hospital security guard, J.W. Bode, 72, was hit and later died from his injuries, according to a statement by INTEGRIS Health Enid Hospital. "J.W. was our colleague and friend," the hospital wrote on social media. "He had worked at INTEGRIS Health Enid Hospital for five years and dedicated most of his professional life to service and safety. He was the proud father of three adult children and a doting grandfather. Our deepest condolences go out to his family." Bode was shot as he approached the suspect, according to hospital officials. Enid police entered the building and fatally shot the gunman, the OSBI said. Enid police officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, and the identity of the gunman should be released pending next-of-kin notification, McKee said. The hospital remained open on Monday. "We are profoundly grateful to local and state law enforcement agencies for their swift and courageous response in resecuring the hospital and protecting our patients, caregivers and community," INTEGRIS Health Enid Hospital said in a statement. "We are especially thankful for the quick and selfless actions of Officer J.W. Bode, who valiantly put himself in harm's way to save others. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten." In its news release, the OSBI also thanked the Enid, Lahoma and Waukomis police departments; the Garfield County Sheriff's Office; the Oklahoma Highway Patrol; and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control for their assistance with the ongoing investigation. The deadly incident followed another shooting that left two people dead and two people critically injured early Saturday, Aug. 16, in Fairview, about 40 miles southwest of Enid. OSBI is also the lead agency in that investigation. This story has been updated to add new information. Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, OSBI wrap up investigation into State Superintendent Ryan Walters

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) have concluded the investigation into State Superintendent Ryan Walters and are turning over their findings to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office. OCSO was asked to investigate the allegations by two board members who said that they saw nude women on a TV inside Walters' office during a July state school board meeting. On Tuesday, August 5, House Speaker Kyle Hilber said that a third-party cybersecurity company performed a forensic analysis on the situation and compiled a 32-page report. The report said that the TV was displaying a movie channel that played two movies between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 24 that had moderate sex and nudity in them. Hilbert: R-rated Jackie Chan movie likely source of nude images seen playing on Walters' TV Hilbert, in a statement, said the finding suggested that the movie playing on Walters' office TV was The Protector, a 1985 R-rated thriller filled with violence, drug use, and multiple scenes of full nudity, followed by the 2017 film, The Foreigner, another R-rated film. On Friday, OCSO posted to social media, announcing they concluded their investigation and will now be turning their findings over to the District Attorney's Office. OSBI has also said that they turned over the investigation to the DA's office. 'OSBI, in conjunction with OCSO have turned over the investigation to the DA's office,' said Hunter McKee with OSBI. It is unclear at this time what the findings are at this time, as both departments have handed over the case to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office. 'After a thorough investigation, our office is now turning over its findings to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office. Because the case is now in the hands of the DA, we can't discuss the specifics of our findings. At the closure of this case in its entirety, we will discuss the case more in depth,' said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III in a statement. The District Attorney's Office told News 4 on Friday that there is no timeline as to how long the review will take. 'The DA met with the investigators today. Now our office will review the investigation to determine if charges will be filed or not. There is no timeline on how long that will take,' said Brook Arbeitman, director of communications with the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
