An inquest delving into the heartbreaking demise of Jay Slater has unveiled a distressing text exchange with a mate, moments before the 19 year old vanished without a trace.
Heard at Preston Coroner's Court were unsettling texts following Jay's ominous message which triggered concern from his mates.
In a message forwarded at 2.39am, on the day he went missing, Jay wrote to a friend, "They've got a marker on me."

Responding to his alarming text, his pal cautioned, "You need to get home lad, you're off your barnet."
Subsequently, between 5.03am and 5.52am, another disturbing message was broadcast from Jay's phone: "Just took a £12k Rolly off some **** off to get 10 quid for it now.", reports the Manchester Evening News.
During the inquest, the court heard Josh Forshaw's account that Jay's mention of "10 quid" was actually code for a hefty £10,000 sum.
When probed by the coroner over lunch about slang usage, Josh was incredulous, replying earlier today, "Are you serious?".
In the afternoon session, he elaborated, "It's used in my area but I can't show that is what Jay intended. It was my interpretation."
DCI Rachel Higson chimed in on the slang puzzle when questioned, admitting unfamiliarity with the phrase, but after consulting peers, she relayed that "It's not something I've heard of prior but I've consulted with colleagues and certainly in the east of the county, like Blackburn, it is a commonly-known term."
On the fateful morning at around 7.30am, Jay shared a video call with his friend Brad Hargreaves, further deepening the mystery of his disappearance.
In court, it was revealed that Jay had told Brad Hargreaves he couldn't afford a taxi. Bradley suggested: "Just get a taxi here and then jump out and don't pay for it or we'll pay."
During a phone conversation later, Jay 'still sounded under the influence' but didn't come across as distressed, nor was he 'begging for help or in danger', according to Josh's testimony at the inquest.
Earlier, the court learned that Jay sent Josh an image displaying knives tucked into his trousers 'in case it kicks off', approximately 90 minutes before their phone call.
The young lad of 19 was discovered deceased in a ravine within Rural Parc de Teno, Tenerife, on 15 July last year. The Oswaltwistle apprentice bricklayer had attended the NRG music fest in Playa de las Americas.
Following an event hosted by NRG, Jay ventured to a remote Masca village Airbnb early on 17 June.
His intention was to trek to the flat where his mates were located in Los Cristianos after leaving the Airbnb.
Throughout the trial, witness accounts from three Spanish individuals who encountered Jay during the leadup to his disappearance were presented.
At about 7:50 am on the same day, two mates working on a building venture in Masca witnessed Jay on the main road, where he enquired regarding bus timetables.
The search for Jay, which lasted nearly a month, garnered considerable press coverage in the UK, as reported by LancsLive. His body was found in Juan Lopez ravine, northward of Masca, not far from the last known location of his mobile phone signal.
A post-mortem examination concluded he died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height.
As Jay's body was returned to Lancashire for his funeral, Lancashire's Senior Coroner Dr James Adeley opened an inquest.
The final hearing started today (May 21) but has now been adjourned to resume at a later date.

CCTV captures terrifying moment hired thug with sawn-off shotgun opens fire at homes

Kieran Morgan, 30, was caught on camera wielding a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun opening fire in broad daylight. Astonishing video footage has emerged showing a hitman discharging a firearm at residences amidst a fierce gangland dispute. Kieran Morgan, 30, was filmed brandishing a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun and firing it in broad daylight, as well as during the early hours in another horrifying assault. In a third incident, he discharged a shotgun in a bustling takeaway, all within a matter of weeks. ‌ The orchestrator of these attacks was Zaki Shazad, 22, who was acting on behalf of unidentified higher-ranking figures in the underworld, Minshull Street Crown Court was informed. ‌ The judge remarked that the shootings bore 'all the hallmarks of a dispute between serious organised criminals'. Remarkably, no one was injured in any of the incidents, which took place in March and April 2023. Morgan has now been handed an 18-year prison sentence, while Shazad has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars, reports the Manchester Evening News. The initial shooting occurred on March 12 on Doric Avenue in Heald Green, Stockport. Morgan, accompanied by another man and clad in a mask and dark attire, approached a house and fired a shotgun at it. He then lobbed a homemade explosive device towards the property, but it rebounded off a wall. Morgan retrieved it and threw it again at a higher angle, causing it to detonate like a firework. Greater Manchester Police later confirmed through forensic testing that the device contained hydrochloric acid. Morgan subsequently made his escape from the scene in a Mercedes. ‌ The second shooting occurred in broad daylight on Wilmslow Road in Heald Green on April 21, as a family, including a child, were preparing their car for Eid festivities. Morgan arrived at the scene in the afternoon carrying a hold-all bag that contained the shotgun. Donning a face mask, he fired shots towards the property. ‌ Although no one was injured, the house sustained damage. The third incident unfolded at the Drip burger bar on Kingsway nine days later, on April 30. Morgan entered the restaurant and immediately discharged one shot, followed by another shortly after. One bullet struck a wall next to a TV, and the other hit the counter. Staff members were behind the counter at the time, and customers were present in the front of the restaurant. ‌ Prosecutor David Farley stated that those inside were 'clearly and understandably terrified'. Morgan made his escape on a bicycle. Shazad was identified as the 'organiser' of the shootings. Snapchat messages exchanged between the pair revealed that Morgan was to receive £1,000 from Shazad for the 'jobs'. ‌ Shazad, of Ranford Road, Levenshulme, was convicted of conspiring to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. Morgan, of Petworth Avenue, Chadderton, admitted to the same offence. Police announced that the three shootings were connected following receipt of intelligence. They scrutinised CCTV footage which aided in identifying Morgan, who was spotted wearing a Canada Goose jacket. He subsequently posted a photo of himself on social media donning the same jacket. ‌ His face was also captured on CCTV footage after he removed his balaclava. Additionally, Shazad received a sentence for attempting to smuggle cannabis to a relative in HMP Berwyn, North Wales. He pleaded guilty to conveying a List A item into prison and possessing cannabis. Defending Morgan, Keith Harrison stated that the defendant has struggled with "recurring mental health problems". David Bentley, representing Shazad, claimed that his client was involved in assisting Morgan but was not the mastermind. ‌ Following the hearing, Detective Inspector Lee Newburn of GMP commented: "Violence, particularly this kind of revenge violence, will not be tolerated on the streets of Manchester. We have seen two dangerous individuals locked up for their parts in a number of firearms discharges targeting properties where innocent people were present. "It is miraculous that no-one was seriously injured during these firearms discharges, but they could very easily have been. One of the victims of these shootings has described to me how scared she now is to go out in public and just how shaken she is about what happened. Nobody should be made to feel like this. ‌ "We continue to work very closely with the communities in and around Greater Manchester to ensure that we protect them from this kind of violence, and we are grateful for the intelligence that we receive from them in relation to illegal activity on a daily basis. "We also work closely with the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), which is a multi-agency team we are part of, and we seek to prevent violence from occurring by addressing underlying issues and educating those who may be at risk of re-offending. "We do this by providing valuable input in prevention work that our partners are carrying out on an ongoing basis, working behind the scenes to manage serious incidents before they occur. That is why we are asking, if you know anyone who is using, or possesses, an illegal firearm, we urge you to get in touch with us as, for each firearm we recover, that's potentially a life saved."

Dozens of beach sunbeds lay empty as the usual UK party-animals were nowhere to be seen - opting to spend their time in Benidorm instead. 9 Deck chairs lay empty in the Spanish resort Credit: Solarpix 9 Restaurants that were once filled with boozing Brits appeared bare Credit: Solarpix 9 Figures published last week showed Benidorm's leading visitors were Brits and its average hotel occupancy rate had reached almost 85 per cent in May. Meanwhile, pictures of the Spanish resort showed deserted beaches and empty restaurants - a steep contrast to what was once described as a "lawless party" hub. Deck chairs that would previously have been filled with boozing Brits sat empty, whilst Magaluf's once crowd-stricken streets appeared decidedly desolate. The barren resort is a positive change for many locals, who despaired at the "touristification" of their town. They're welcoming instead a new wave of tourists hailing from different European countries, which they hope will clean up the resort's image. Nightclub boss, Migue Perez-Masra, told local press that Playa de Palma, near the Majorcan capital, has seen a sharp increase in German tourists. 9 Once crowd-stricken streets now seemed visibly empty Credit: Solarpix 9 The barren resort is a positive change for many locals Credit: Solarpix 9 Magaluf was branded a lawless party resort Credit: Solarpix He claimed young Brits are turning their backs on Magaluf after feeling 'demonized" by locals. The area is now seeing more and more French and Italian visitors too. Attempts to clean up the resort's image come as Magaluf was branded a lawless party resort after a shocking sex video emerged in June 2014 showing a British tourist performing sex acts on 24 men in a bar. The 18-year-old at the centre of the viral footage was reportedly duped into performing the sex acts for what she thought was a free break that turned out to be a cocktail named 'Holiday'. At the time, Spanish politician Jose Ramon Bauza, branded Punta Ballena - Magaluf's strip - as '500 metres of shame'. Anti-tourist mob attacks holidaymakers with water guns as they vow Spain faces 'long hot summer' of protest carnage The bar was ordered to close for a year whilst authorities cracked the whip on unruly behaviour. Fines of up to £50,000 were introduced for holidaymakers caught leaping off their hotel balconies, whilst limits were set on the amount of alcohol served at all-inclusive hotels. Further restrictions in Spanish party resorts were introduced last year. In parts of Majorca and Ibiza, tourists can be fined up to £1,300 for drinking on the streets and shops are now only allowed to sell alcohol at certain times. Britain's then-Ambassador to Spain Hugh Elliott urged holidaymakers in the Majorcan party resort to 'show responsibility' and remember they were "guests" in Spain. This Sunday anti-tourism protestors will stage another demonstration in the Majorcan capital Palma. The demo has been organised by activist organisation Menys Turisme, Mes Vida, with 60 groups already pledging to take part. Protestors from other cities including Barcelona and San Sebastian will also take to a streets as part of co-ordinated events. A Menys Turisme, Mes Vida spokesman said last week: 'We will demonstrate for the right to a decent life and to demand the brakes are put on the touristification of this island.' 9 Many locals lamented at the loss of their town to boozing Brits Credit: Solarpix 9 Residents said they're welcoming in a new stream of tourists from Europe Credit: Solarpix
