Festival bonanza: Railways offers 20% rebate on confirmed return tickets
According to a Railway Board circular issued on August 8, 2025, the scheme offers a 20 per cent rebate on the base fare of the return journey for passengers booking confirmed tickets for both onward and return travel for the same set of passengers, class, and origin-destination pair. The initiative aims to redistribute crowding, facilitate hassle-free bookings, and enhance the utilisation of train services, including special trains, in both directions.
Under the scheme, bookings will open on August 14, 2025, for onward journeys scheduled between October 13 and October 26, 2025. The corresponding return journey must be booked using the connecting journey feature for travel between November 17 and December 1, 2025. Advance reservation period norms will not apply to the return journey booking. The scheme will be valid across all classes and trains, except those operating with flexi-fare pricing, and will only apply to confirmed tickets.
Both onward and return journey tickets must be booked using the same mode, either Internet (online) booking or counter booking at reservation offices. No additional fare collection will be performed if any arise during charting for these PNRs. No fare refund is permissible for tickets booked under this scheme. The scheme applies to all classes and trains, including special trains (on demand), except for trains with Flexi fare.
It also does not allow any modifications or additional concessions to be permitted. The offer excludes the use of rail travel coupons, vouchers, passes, and PTOs for the discounted return trip. The Railway Board has directed zonal railways to ensure wide publicity through the press, media, and station announcements to inform passengers about the scheme.

Metro Railway Kolkata is optimistic about starting operations on three new stretches by the end of this month, a senior Metro official said on Wednesday. The progress gained momentum following a two-day visit by Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, during which he inspected the East-West Metro's Esplanade–Sealdah section and the Noapara–Airport stretch. It will ease their hardships and improve connectivity to a great extent," the spokesperson added. Similarly, the Yellow Line's first phase — the Noapara–Airport corridor — and the Orange Line's Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby More)–Beleghata corridor, covering 4.5 km, have received all mandatory clearances and are now awaiting the PMO's nod to start operations by September, he said. On arrival at RCF, Sinku inspected the coach manufacturing processes in the workshop. He examined manufacturing of various types of coaches, especially Vande Bharat etc. being made by RCF, besides inspecting the coach shells in Shell Assembly Shop. He also examined manufacturing of shell components in CNC Machines , Press and other machines. He praised RCF infrastructure for speedy manufacturing of coaches and also gave valuable tips in the process.

Indian Railways Round Trip Scheme: Good news for rail passengers. Indian Railways' round trip scheme kicks off today. This new scheme aims to ensure hassle free booking as well as to facilitate passengers. It will also redistribute the peak traffic for larger range during peak festival seasons including Diwali, Chhath, etc, and ensure both side utilisation of trains including special trains. In a statement, the Ministry of Railways said: 'Booking start date shall be 14.08.2025 for the ARP date 13th October 2025. Onward ticket shall be booked first for the train start date between 13th October 2025 and 26th October 2025 and subsequently return journey ticket shall be booked by using connecting journey feature for the train start date between 17th November and 1st December 2025.
