A surface low entering Manitoba Thursday has the potential to bring severe weather to the province, particularly the southeast where Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch Thursday. The weather agency says thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening along a cold front passing through southern Manitoba that will move into Ontario late this evening. It's possible some thunderstorms will become severe and could generate heavy rain, sizeable hail and strong wind gusts. Severe thunderstorms also always have the potential to produce tornadoes. If you are heading to tonight's Bomber game at Princess Auto Stadium, prepare for the possibility of thunderstorms, keep your eyes on the sky and stay updated with the latest weather alerts. The same low pressure system is already bringing much-needed rain to northern regions. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) expects as much as 50 mm of rainfall by Friday morning in the Lynn Lake and Brochet regions, where it has issued a rainfall warning. The weather agency says other areas, including Lac Brochet and Pukatawagan, will see lower, but still significant amounts. Almost all of the north will see varying amounts of rainfall today through Friday.
