Pantech to focus on advanced technology
PETALING JAYA: Pantech Group Holdings Bhd 's growth prospects are supported by its ongoing investments in its manufacturing arm.
TA Research, in a report, said the group is upgrading its Klang plant in Selangor with a focus on automation and advanced machinery to enhance production efficiency and reduce dependency on manual labour.
The key initiatives include replacing induction components in forming machines, installing a digitalised high-frequency induction long bend machine.
It is also expanding computer numerical control machining capacity, all of which are expected to strengthen operational capabilities and support long-term growth.
While external challenges such as Section 232 tariffs and foreign exchange volatility persist, Pantech's diversified exposure across sectors, including petrochemicals, palm oil, water treatment and shipbuilding would provide a buffer.
Its strong manufacturing base and long-standing customer relationships enhance resilience in an uncertain macro environment.
TA Research has made no changes to its earnings forecast after the group released its financial results.
It reiterated a 'buy' call with an unchanged target price of 96 sen a share based on a seven-time 2026 earnings per share.
For its first quarter of the financial year 2026 (1Q26), Pantech reported core net profit of RM23mil.
This was within TA Research's and consensus expectations at 21% of the full year estimates.
Core net profit excludes a one-off Real Property Gains Tax of RM3.76mil arising from the completion of two properties disposed of by a subsidiary to Pantech Global Group.
The group proposed a special interim dividend of two sen per share with the option to reinvest into new Pantech Group shares under dividend reinvestment plan, which will be made at a later date.
Its profit before tax decreased by 30.9% year-on-year, primarily impacted by the weak performance from both the trading and manufacturing divisions.

Call us immediately if you get scammed, say cops
KUALA LUMPUR: While the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) has received scam reports involving losses amounting to RM193mil from January to July this year, only a portion of the funds were successfully frozen. This, according to Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, was due to the calls to NSRC being made much later after the scam occurred. "From January and July, the NSRC received calls on scams involving RM193mil in funds. "However, only RM12mil in funds were successfully frozen as some of the calls were made a month, a week, even a year after the scam occurred," he said when contacted on Saturday (Aug 9). The funds that were successfully frozen will eventually be returned to the victims under Section 116D of the Criminal Procedure Code, once the legal process is completed, he said. "Money stolen from scams can disappear within minutes as the scammers act fast. "I urge the public to report the matter as soon as possible," he said. Comm Rusdi said that since operating for 24 hours, the centre has received 10,038 calls between Aug 3 and Aug 7. "Majority of the calls were recorded before 8pm amounting to 7,254 while the remaining ones 2,514 after 8pm. "Some 51% of the calls were genuine scams while others were inquiries," he said. Comm Rusdi urged the public to fully utilise the SemakMule portal as it was set up to enable the public to check bank account numbers, phone numbers and companies used by scammers. "Since Jan 1, 2025, the portal has listed 272,250 bank accounts, 216,242 phone numbers and 14,160 companies. "From Jan 1, 2015, and Aug 7, the portal has received 35.8 million visitors," he said.

KIP-REIT poised for robust rental reversions
PETALING JAYA: Analysts have raised their earnings estimates for KIP Real Estate Investment Trust (KIP-REIT) based on the possibility of stronger rental revision and incremental contributions from new assets. TA Research raised its earnings projections for the REIT's financial year 2026 ending June 30 (FY26) and FY27 by 3% and 7%, respectively, The research house said in a report to clients that it came away from KIP-REIT's FY25 results briefing last week feeling 'upbeat' on the REIT's near-term prospects. It said management remained committed to scaling up KIP-REIT's portfolio through active asset enhancement, strategic partnerships, and accretive acquisitions. At KIPMall Tampoi in Johor, enhancement works have commenced and are targeted for completion by next February, it noted. The upgrades will add 10,000 sq ft of net lettable area and include infrastructure improvements, enhanced food and beverage offerings, digital integration, and sustainability features, all aimed at boosting the mall's footfall and unlocking rental upside. Separately, in March, KIP-REIT entered into a memorandum of understanding with Aeon Co (M) Bhd for the expansion of AEON Mall Kinta City in Perak. As part of the deal, AEON has renewed its lease for the existing space and will master-lease the upcoming extension, reaffirming its long-term commitment to the location, TA Research said, adding that both parties are in the final stages of negotiation, with construction expected to commence soon and completion targeted for 2027. On the acquisition front, the research house reported that progress remains on track for three industrial assets valued at RM75.7mil. The assets in Sarawak and Johor are expected to be completed soon, while a Klang property is scheduled for completion by year-end.

Paramount acquires land in Penang for RM58mil
PETALING JAYA: Paramount Corp Bhd is acquiring an 18.97 acre piece of freehold land in Bandar Cassia, Penang, from Penang Development Corp for RM57.841mil. In a statement, the company said the acquisition marks a key addition to its land bank to drive sustainable growth in the northern region. The company said the acquisition is expected to generate a gross development value (GDV) of RM744mil, adding on to its remaining land bank of 358.9 acres and remaining GDV of RM5.497mil. 'The proposed acquisition will be funded through a combination of internally generated funds and bank borrowings,' it said. The newly acquired land is situated in the city centre of Bandar Cassia in Penang, within a 600m radius of Utropolis Batu Kawan development, Paramount Property's award-winning development. The proposed development for the site comprises serviced apartments, semi-detached townhouses and shop offices. Construction is slated to commence in 2027 with completion by 2033. Once fully completed, the development will provide housing options as well as create a vibrant commercial environment that enhances liveability and economic growth in the state. Separately, TA Research said it is feeling more confident in the strategic rationale and valuation of Paramount's plans to acquire a 28% stake in Singapore Exchange-listed Envictus International Holdings Ltd following a briefing on the deal. 'Management addressed key concerns candidly, including earnings quality, post-acquisition integration, and capital impact,' the research house said. It added that there was now more clarity on Envictus's turnaround trajectory, while the attractive entry valuation and Paramount's disciplined stance on not pursuing further food and beverage (F&B) acquisitions strengthened its conviction in the long-term value of the transaction. 'The proposed acquisition enhances Paramount's growth profile by providing exposure to a resilient, cash-generative F&B business at a compelling entry multiple,' the research house said. The company announced a proposed deal involves Paramount's wholly owned Venice Concepts Sdn Bhd acquiring the stake in Envictus from JAG Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd, in which Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani owns a 96% stake. JAG Capital Holdings currently holds a 29.6% in Envictus. Property developer Paramount is looking to buy the operator of Texas Chicken and San Francisco Coffee in Malaysia for RM126.32mil in cash, as it aims to expand its footprint in the F&B sector. However, TA Research cautioned that the main risks to the deal include the potential that the anticipated benefits may not fully materialise or that returns may not sufficiently offset the investment cost. 'As Envictus is listed in Singapore, any future changes to foreign investment regulations could impact Paramount's rights or ability to repatriate profits, although no such restrictions currently exist. 'Additionally, with only a 28% stake, Paramount will not have operational control over Envictus, but plans to mitigate this by nominating board representatives to safeguard its interests,' the research house said. Paramount signalled a cautious tone, flagging a softer property market in the second half of the year due to external trade uncertainties, cost pressures from fuel-subsidy rationalisation and expansion of the sales and service tax (SST). 'With only RM600mil in sales achieved against its RM1.5bil full-year target, there's a possibility of downward revision. That said, we believe there is still room for a rise in sales in the second half, especially once there is greater clarity on SST and tariff developments,' the research house said. TA Research maintained its FY25 to FY27 earnings forecasts for Paramount and its target price of RM1.48 based next year's price to book multiple of 0.6 times. 'The stock remains deeply undervalued, trading at just 6.4 times 2026 price-earnings and 0.4 times price to book, significantly below the sector average of 13.9 times price-earnings and 0.8 times price to book. 'With a superior over 7% dividend yield, significantly outperforming the sector average of 3.7%, we see limited downside risk to its share price,' the research house said.
