'In principle…' – Joan Laporta confirms updated Barcelona transfer plans
Barcelona have had a compelling summer so far, with numerous deals having been completed by sporting director Deco. In terms of incomings, Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford have arrived, while a number of fringe first team players have departed. Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who recently expressed his delight at Rashford's arrival from Manchester United, discussed the club's transfer situation during an interview with MD. He revealed that the main aim was to avoid losing any key players. 'Our main interest and obsession was to keep the team from last season, because it was historic. We wanted to maintain that team spirit with the players we had, which is why many offers that have been received have not even been considered. The coach asked us for more firepower up front. With Marcus Rashford, we have it. And Deco's vision of what could happen with Marc-André has been fundamental to strengthen the goal very well. Joan Garcia is doing some spectacular training sessions and will please Barça.' Image via Alberto Estevez/EFE Laporta also confirmed that the current plan is for no more signings to be made, while reaffirming his desire for no big players to depart before the end of the summer transfer window. 'In principle, there will be no more signings. We have a squad and the coach wants to make additions to the first team dynamic with players from Barça Atlètic, but additions are not expected at the moment. We will try to avoid any painful exit. I'm not going to specify players because they are all Barça players and we are all delighted with them, but there will be certain adjustments, because there are too many players in some positions, replicated, and something will have to be done. This is already at the discretion of the coach and Deco.' Laporta remarks won't go down well with Hansi Flick The fact that no more signings are planned is not good news for Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, who wants another defender to be added to his squad. But as things stand, he won't get his wish.

Is Leah Williamson in a relationship?
Leah Williamson, footballer and captain of the England women's national team, has long sparked dating rumours with Elle Smith, an American model and former Miss USA winner. From sweet holiday snaps to celebrating her football wins together, the 28-year-old and her beau have somewhat soft-launched their relationship on Instagram over the last few months. However, from what we, and other social media sleuths (see: fans of the pair), can see, they're yet to actually make it 'official.' So, let's take a deep dive into their rumoured relationship, including some of the sweetest moments so far... Last month, Elle took to her Instagram to share snippets of her Majorcan holiday with her 127K followers. While many shots showed off her summer fits and stunning views of the Spanish island, a couple of pics saw the pair looking super loved up. Case in point: slide 3 caught Leah and Elle on a paddleboard together, while slide 17 saw Elle snap a candid pic of the footballer dressed up and heading out for dinner. Leah also posted snaps of the getaway — where they were celebrating Elle's birthday — which included a gorgeous photo of the pair at dinner. A selfie of the two was featured in the carousel too, which saw Leah and Elle sunkissed and smiling. Elle commented on the holiday roundup: "same time next year?" to which Leah responded: "yes please x." Err, cute. Back in May, Elle posted a black and white shot of her cuddling Leah, who was sitting on her lap. Leah was clutching a medal and wearing an England shirt following her team's 6-0 win against Portugal. The post also included footage of the match, in which Elle could be heard cheering on the team. Leah commented on the post: "We did it!" Even earlier in March, Elle posted a video of her and Leah floating in the ocean on a paddleboard. Leah appeared to be lying down and resting her head on Elle's legs, as they had a sweet, intimate chat. Elle accompanied the post with the caption: "happy birthday my love x." Leah responded with the cutest emojis: "🥰🤭🧜♀️." Interestingly, this Insta post sparked 'official' comments from fans, with one person writing: "The mother of hard launches!" Others said: "So happy for you!" while another person said they were the "cutest" together. Officially obsessed with these two.

Marcus Rashford follows in idol's footsteps as Barcelona confirm loan signing's shirt number
Marcus Rashford will take on his idol's shirt number at Barcelona after completing his loan move from Manchester United. The Briton's move away from Old Trafford - a one-season loan with a £30.3m buy option - was confirmed by the Spanish champions today. The 27-year-old will spend more time away from his boyhood club after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim last season. He joined Aston Villa on loan in January, scoring four times in 17 appearances before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. He will now turn his attention to a La Liga title defence, though, and he will do so bearing the squad number of a proven title winner. Rashford is set to take on Pablo Torre's No14 shirt, Barcelona have now confirmed. 📞 "Yeah… It's official."Rashford follows in Lineker's footsteps. — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) July 23, 2025 Some 18 years ago, that shirt belonged to the legendary Thierry Henry, who tallied 76 goal contributions in 121 appearances for the Blaugrana. He won two La Liga titles in his time with the Catalan outfit, also lifting the Champions League in 2008-09. Rashford has made no secret of his admiration for Henry throughout his career, admitting that he idolised the striker as a child. 'I see myself reflected in Henry,' he said in June. 'He's comfortable playing on the left and also in the middle. He's a free player. 'As I've developed, the number 9 position has become more comfortable, more natural. 'Things like playing with my back to goal are becoming easier for me. You're always in front of goal and always dangerous." Rashford, who sported No9 in his stint at Villa and No10 for much of his United career, is expected to play in a supporting role to Raphinha, offering much-needed depth on the left flank. According to the terms of the loan, Rashford's full wages will be covered by Barcelona, despite their rocky financial state. He has, however, taken a 25% pay cut to help get the deal over the line.
