How to Get to Near High-Speed Rail—on the Cheap

Forget flashy bullet trains and gazillion-dollar tunnels: Alon Levy, a fellow at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management, says America's railways could reduce travel times and transform intercity trips with simpler, far cheaper fixes.
In a new study, Levy and co-authors make the case that with a combination of smarter scheduling, new track switches that allow trains to approach stations at faster speeds and a fleet of modern electric trains, the Northeast Corridor connecting Boston to Washington, D.C., could be humming with near high-speed rail service. Imagine a Boston-to-New York City trip that takes about two hours—instead of the roughly 3.5 hours it can take today—for a fraction of the cost of prestige megaprojects.

How Trump's Big Beautiful Bill Impacts Student Loans — and What Borrowers Should Do Now

Student loan borrowers should start preparing for July 1, 2026, when specific provisions of President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill' go into effect, marking changes from the Higher Education Act of 1965 and limiting options for borrowers on income-driven repayment (IDR) plans. The new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) will be the only choice, apart from the standard repayment plan, for new borrowers as well as existing borrowers who reconsolidate or take out new loans. Read Next: Find Out: In this case, however, having fewer options may be a good thing for borrowers. 'By streamlining options down to just RAP and the standard plan for new borrowers, the government is addressing the confusion that's historically made it difficult for borrowers to make informed decisions,' said Ken Ruggiero, CEO of Ascent Funding. Also see what to do if you're falling behind on federal student loan payments, according to Suze Orman. RAP Loan Terms Borrowers Should Understand Borrowers who choose RAP will make payments ranging from 1% to 10% of their income, with a minimum monthly payment of $10. Ruggiero called the plan 'notably flexible.' There are also built-in principal subsidies of up to $50 per month and built-in interest subsidies to prevent rising balances, which has been an issue with past IDR plans. Loans will be forgiven after 30 years of qualifying payments. Payments through RAP may also qualify for Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) after 10 years of payments for workers who qualify. Check Out: Should You Choose RAP? Although RAP offers some advantages, 'that doesn't necessarily mean it's better for every borrower,' per Ruggiero. Younger borrowers with lower income may find lower monthly payments with RAP. As their capacity to pay increases, payments will increase. 'Borrowers pursuing Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) should know that RAP-qualifying payments count toward forgiveness, which is a big plus,' Ruggiero said. If you already have a high income or if you have a smaller loan balance and just want to pay it off as fast as possible, a standard plan might be more cost-effective in the long run. 'Factors like age, income trajectory, loan size and how long someone's been repaying all matter in this decision,' Ruggiero said. Consult With a Professional If you're facing student loan debt now or planning to take out loans to finance your education, you still have nearly a year before making any decisions about RAP or the standard repayment plan. However, 'it's smart to start evaluating your options now,' Ruggiero said. He suggested speaking to a financial consultant or your loan servicer before making any moves. 'The OBBB allocated $1 billion to help servicers upgrade their systems and improve customer service, ensuring they can provide more accurate and timely support,' Ruggiero explained. 'The key is to get clarity before any decision becomes irreversible, especially for those considering loan consolidation, which could limit their repayment plan options moving forward.' NASCAR's Newest Series Sponsor Will Be Music To Your Ears (Or Not)

If you're a fan of the catchy jingle from O'Reilly Auto Parts, good news: you'll be hearing a lot more of it. If not, well—sorry about that. NASCAR announced Monday that the automotive replacement parts company will be the new title sponsor of the second-tier touring series currently known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series. 'Like the great sport of NASCAR, O'Reilly Auto Parts was born in America and built on the hard work and drive of passionate people,' said NASCAR President Steve O'Donnell in a press release. 'This new partnership allows us to continue to fuel that passion for the next generation of NASCAR's stars and fans while celebrating the journey we've been on together for decades.' The company, founded in 1957, is already a familiar name to NASCAR fans. O'Reilly first appeared in the sport in 1999 as a race entitlement sponsor for a Truck Series event at Texas Motor Speedway. In 2008, it became the 'Official Auto Parts Retailer of NASCAR,' and since then has had its logo plastered across races in all three national series as well as several contingency awards. And of course, O'Reilly has been a longtime radio sponsor across NASCAR and Speedway Motorsports channels, armed with that jingle that's either a stroke of marketing genius—or the soundtrack to your nightmares. Now, starting in 2026, the company will step onto a bigger NASCAR stage than ever before. 'Our company is rooted in the same values that define NASCAR—teamwork, enthusiasm, and dedication,' said O'Reilly Auto Parts President Brent Kirby. 'You'll see those in action when our customers walk through our doors. We know they need fast service, and Team O'Reilly will get them the parts they need quickly, with excellent customer service. We welcome all fans to stop by our stores and see how our team can help keep them running.' NASCAR's version of Triple-A baseball dates back to 1982, when the sanctioning body cobbled together a collection of regional series and quickly landed a sponsor in Busch beer. That pairing of beer with a Cup Series fueled by Winston cigarettes was a perfect for the time, and the Busch Grand National Series soon became simply 'the Busch Series.' Over the decades, the series evolved into both a ladder for aspiring stars and a playground for established Cup drivers looking for extra track time—or a safety net for those needing to take a step back. Its sponsorship history has mirrored NASCAR's shifting eras: from beer to insurance to broadband, as the sport moved from blue-collar roots toward corporate polish and eventually into the digital age. Now it will bring its sponsorship back to the garage as NASCAR looks to appeal to a mechanical, DIY-minded fan base. Early last year, Comcast said that while Xfinity would remain a 'premier partner,' its run as title sponsor would end after this season. That opened the door for O'Reilly, which will gain a major spotlight thanks to NASCAR's relatively new broadcast partnership with The CW Network. The network is currently in its first full season carrying the series and will showcase the O'Reilly name from coast to coast. 'The success of NASCAR on The CW has shown that millions of fans will consistently tune in for these adrenaline-fueled races every week,' said Brad Schwartz, President, The CW Network. 'This exciting new partnership with O'Reilly Auto Parts gives us the opportunity to expand that reach even further by tapping into our mutually strong presence in local communities nationwide and continuing to grow our passionate audience in the years to come.' And while the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series might not roll off the tongue quite as smoothly as Busch, Nationwide, or Xfinity, at least nobody will ever forget the soundtrack. The jingle department already has that covered. Who knows, perhaps next season the drivers won't be saying their car was 'as fast as Xfinity Wi-Fi' and instead will just start signing. 'Oh, oh, oh, O'Reilly…' well, you already know the rest.

This Is the No. 1 Travel Credit Card for 2025, According to a New Report

Rewards credit cards can lead to points for things like free airline tickets or hotel stays, and a new report reveals the ones that travelers love most. American Express ranked as the top issuer in overall customer satisfaction, according to J.D. Power's 2025 U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study. That was followed by Bank of America and Capital One. Chase Bank—which is known for its popular Chase Sapphire Reserve card—along with Discover and Wells Fargo ranked as the next three. Each of the top six came in above the industry average. John Cabell, the managing director of payments intelligence at J.D. Power, said in a statement increases in overall satisfaction are being driven by "cardholders with higher financial health scores and no revolving debt—especially those using cards with points/miles rewards programs and annual fee cards." On the opposite end of the spectrum was Credit One Bank, Premier Bankcard, and FNBO, which ranked as the lowest in overall customer satisfaction. To determine its rankings, J.D. Power surveyed more than 37,000 credit card customers between June 2024 and June 2025. When it comes to the best rewards credit cards without annual fees, the Capital One Savor Rewards Card, the Citi Double Cash card, and the Discover It Student Cash Credit Card ranked as the highest. Among co-branded cards without an annual fee, the Hilton Honors American Express card, the Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi card, and the Apple Card took the top three spots in overall customer satisfaction. Many travel and rewards credit cards have annual fees to help offset the numerous perks and opportunities they provide to customers. Within this category, The Platinum Card from American Express took the top spot, followed by the Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite card, the American Express Gold Card, and the Chase Sapphire Reserve. The cards may be costly (Chase just raised its annual fee on the Reserve card to $795), but the perks can also be lucrative for travelers and shoppers. American Express Platinum cardholders, for example, receive access to more than 1,400 airport lounges, $200 in annual Uber credits, and a $300 credit to Equinox gyms, among other things. For frequent flyers, American Airlines' Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard was the top ranked airline co-branded card. But all these rewards did come at a cost: more than half of survey respondents were described as 'financially unhealthy' and carried credit card balances. 'There was a significant increase in the number of financially unhealthy cardholders and those carrying revolving debt in early fielding of the study,' Cabell said in the statement. Beyond credit cards, J.D. Power also looks at other travel-related industries, including the top travel apps and websites. In that 2023 ranking, the company found Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and JetBlue had the highest customer satisfaction for airlines, while World of Hyatt, Choice Hotels, and Hilton Honors took the top spots for hotels.
