To perform a search using ChatGPT in 4–5 simple steps, you should:
Open ChatGPT by visiting chat.openai.com and logging into your account
Start a new chat by clicking on "New Chat" in the sidebar
Type your question or topic clearly, as if you're asking a person (for example, "How come polar bears don't eat penguins?")
Read the response generated by ChatGPT
Ask follow-up questions if you need more information or want to go deeper into the topic
This could be the search routine of the future – if you trust ChatGPT enough. But do you trust Google right now? This is the key question.
It's almost Google I/O time – the Big G's forum is scheduled for May 20 and 21 (precisely a week from now)!I can already tell you what it's going to be about: AI, some more AI and then, even more AI. Did I mention that Google's conference is going to be about artificial intelligence? Don't act surprised: this was the case at Google I/O 2024. Today, Big Tech people are even more obsessed with the AI acronym.Joking aside, The Information has got some information that in the lead-up to its I/O developer conference, Google has been showcasing a range of upcoming tools to employees and external developers. Among those, there's allegedly a new AI assistant aimed at software development.Internally referred to as the "software development lifecycle agent", the tool is designed to assist engineers throughout every phase of development, from managing tasks to generating documentation. People familiar with the demos say the AI acts like a constant teammate, capable of spotting bugs and flagging security issues. It's still unclear how soon this feature might be made publicly available, but we could get a sneak peek at the upcoming I/O conference. Also, yesterday we told you that Google is testing a new feature that turns the Search app into Reddit , sort of. There could be a comment section appearing in the mobile version of Google Search, where users can post, reply, and vote on comments. This feature currently shows up for sports-related queries, such as "team vs team" matchups. This move appears to be part of Google's broader effort to keep users engaged with Search, amid growing competition from AI platforms like ChatGPT and its own Gemini. There are reports of declining search activity on Apple devices and Google may be looking for new ways to retain user attention.None other than Apple's services chief Eddy Cue suggested that artificial intelligence could make traditional search engines obsolete by 2035. He noted that Google search activity on Apple devices had already declined in April – its first-ever drop! – due to rising AI usage, arguing that this shift could naturally reduce Google's influence over time.As you probably know, Apple gets paid $20 billion a year by Google to make its platform the default search engine on Apple devices – and that deal faces scrutiny from the US Department of Justice. The DOJ sees this as evidence of Google's dominance in search and is pushing to dismantle such arrangements as part of its broader antitrust case.

Google wastes no time and releases Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 with enhanced desktop windowing

For those not aware, Quarterly Platform Releases, or QPRs, include more meaningful changes than monthly security patches. However, while still in beta, Google says QPRs are stable enough for general use. Android 16 QPR1 is expected to launch officially in September, but Pixel users can already test what's coming. The 401MB Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 dropped today. | Images credit — PhoneArena This release includes a preview of Android's improved desktop mode for external displays. When a Pixel 8 or Pixel 9 device is connected to a monitor using DisplayPort, users can enable a new desktop session from the Developer options. In this setup, the phone and monitor run independently. Apps appear only on the screen they're launched on, and the external display gains a taskbar for pinned and active apps. Windows are resizable, and apps can be placed side-by-side, similar to what you'd find on a desktop computer. Phone connected to an external display. | Image credit — Google For those using a Pixel Tablet with display support, the desktop session can stretch across both screens. This allows windows, content, and the pointer to move between displays, acting like one unified workspace. Tablet connected to an external display. | Image credit — Google Google has also updated last year's windowing features. New improvements include: Saving window size and position between sessions Support for multiple desktop sessions with keyboard or gesture switching Flexible window tiling and arrangement Multi-window support for apps like Chrome and Keep Compatibility improvements to help legacy apps display properly on external monitors These upgrades show Google is steadily building out Android's ability to function more like a desktop when connected to larger screens. QPR1 Beta 2 also fixes several issues found in Beta 1, including: Auto dark theme not working Crashing in Now Playing Camera not launching App shortcuts missing after install Home button issues in app drawer Misaligned 'More wallpapers' button Gemini not working on lockscreen The update is available for a wide range of devices, starting with the Pixel 6 series, all the way to the Pixel 9a . It also includes the June 2025 security patch and can be obtained by registering for the Android Beta for Pixel program. Google seems eager to keep momentum going with Android updates. Releasing this beta right after Android 16 's stable build signals that the company wants to stay ahead in software innovation. While not every feature will matter to all users, the focus on productivity tools could make Android more versatile for those who rely on their phones for more than just the basics. I, for one, am excited to try out desktop mode ASAP.

June Pixel Drop lands with Pixel VIPs, AI photo magic, and Gboard glow-up

The June Pixel Drop is now here for Pixels and brings quite a lot of new features and updates, including Pixel VIPs, custom stickers in Gboard, and advanced accessibility features. Also, Android 16 is now starting to roll out as well. Here's what the June Pixel Drop is bringing to your Pixel! There's a new Pixel VIPs widget from the Contacts app, tailored to help you give priority to the most important people in your life, like friends and family. The more details you add about your favorite people (like birthdays, emails, home addresses, and preferences), the fuller the Pixel VIPs experience will be. You can view your last call and message (including WhatsApp ones) with each VIP, see their location when shared, and even get reminders for important events like their birthday. You can add more info about the most important people in your life. | Image credit – Google On top of that, VIPs can also bypass Do Not Disturb, so you never miss a message from a special someone in your life. The feature is available on Pixel 6 and newer, and supports Google Messages and WhatsApp services. Another fun feature coming with the June Pixel Drop is the ability to create a sticker of nearly anything you can imagine. Using Pixel Studio and generative AI, you can get any sticker you want right away. As usual with AI, you'll have to type your prompt, choose an emotion, and then you can send it, without having to switch apps. What's even better is you can make stickers from photos as well: the background of the image will be automatically removed and the object becomes your sticker. The feature is available for Pixel 9 phones in select countries and currently supports English, Japanese, and German only. Google is also making some cool Pixel features available to more users. One of them is Satellite SOS, which is now available in Australia. Satellite SOS allows you to connect with emergency services in areas where there's no cellular connectivity or Wi-Fi availability. Satellite SOS is supported on phones from the Pixel 9 series. The service is currently available in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Europe, and now Australia. Meanwhile, the Recorder app gains the ability to offer you AI-generated summaries of recordings in French and German. Right now, the Pixel 9 series can get summaries in English, Japanese, German, and French, while for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9a, the feature is available in English only. AI summaries are now available in more languages. | Image credit – Google Meanwhile, Pixel 8 phones are getting Clear voice in the Recorder app. The feature removes background noises from recordings for better audio quality so you can hear everything crystal-clear. Photography enthusiasts also have what to be excited about with the June Pixel Drop. There's a new education hub that will help you take advantage of all the features in Pixel Camera. You can now tap the question mark icon in the upper right-hand corner of Pixel's Camera and then see visual inspiration for each mode. Also, the app will now offer you how-to instructions to achieve the best effect. With this update, you can now use live search in the Magnifier app (Pixel 5 and newer, without the foldables) which will help you learn more about your surroundings, without the need to take a photo. Basically, you can type what you're looking for (item on a menu, for example) and Magnifier will highlight matches on the screen in real-time. Also, when your Pixel finds something, it will give you a little haptic feedback. More accessibility features coming to your Android phone . | Image credit – Google Also, you can use new LE audio features with hearing aids on Pixel 9 and newer, running Android 16 . With these features, it will be easy for you to take calls on the go and access your hearing aid presets. Also, you can change your ambient volume from the settings of your Pixel phone. You can now quickly show how you feel about the moments that matter to you most. | Image credit – Google Expressive Captions is a feature that is designed to understand intensity, nuance, and emotion in speech and transfer it with words. It's now available in more countries beyond the U.S., including Canada, the UK, and Australia. Expressive Captions is available on Pixel 6 and newer Pixel phones, as well as other compatible Android phones (Android 15 or newer). Soon you'll be able to use AI-powered editing in Google Photos. You'll be able to get AI-powered suggestions to enhance your images and access recommended tools based on what you select to edit. You will also be getting easier access to your favorite editing tools.

A big step toward desktop-style multitasking On the productivity front, Google is laying the groundwork for serious multitasking. Android 16 will eventually enable desktop windowing on tablets and large-screen devices, developed in partnership with Samsung. The feature allows users to open, move, and resize multiple app windows freely, echoing the flexibility of Samsung DeX. Though the full experience will roll out later this year , it points to a broader vision for Android as a productivity-first platform on tablets and external displays. Additionally, Google will launch a feature later this year that will allow you to create your own custom keyboard shortcuts. There is also taskbar overflow which will provide a way to find apps that cannot be easily found due to the taskbar being full Taskbar keyboard overflow in Android 16 . | Image credit — Google Smaller updates round out the release Other under-the-hood changes include HDR screenshot support, adaptive refresh rate controls, and new identity check tools. One of's most practical changes is the introduction of grouped notifications and live updates from compatible delivery and ride-share apps. Instead of digging into an app to see where your food or driver is, Android will surface real-time updates on your lock screen. The feature will soon extend to other brands, including Samsung, OPPO, and OnePlus.
