South Africa's national under-20 team will face Morocco in the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday at 8pm, with the chance to lift the trophy for the first time.
This will be the second meeting between the two nations in a final after Morocco edged South Africa 1-0 in 1997.
That remains the only U20 Afcon title Morocco have ever won, while Amajita have yet to lift the crown – making this an opportunity 28 years in the making.
The road to the final has been challenging after losing their opening match of the tournament, but the response has been gutsy under the guidance of head coach Raymond Mdaka.
His young squad reached the decider after edging out fierce rivals Nigeria 1-0 in a tense semi-final clash in Ismailia on Thursday.
That result confirmed their growth and determination, with Amajita showing composure and maturity against a Nigerian side many tipped for the title.

South Africa's youth team have now appeared in seven editions of the U20 Afcon, reaching five semi-finals but only two finals.
In 1997, they settled for silver, and on Sunday, they will hope to go one better.
Morocco come into this match boasting a solid defensive record.
They have not conceded a goal in the knockout rounds, and will rely on a confident backline that has held firm throughout the tournament.
Their tactical discipline and ability to capitalise on limited chances make them a dangerous opponent in a final.
For Amajita, this is a golden opportunity for redemption.
Their run to the final has included tough moments, but the character shown by Mdaka's men – especially against Nigeria – suggests they are peaking at the right time.
And with continental pride on the line, the technical team will urge their players to believe they can change history.
This fixture is not only about the title – it's also about global representation.
South Africa are already one of four nations from the continent who will play in the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Chile later this year, from September 27 to October 19.
It's another major milestone, with the Amajita becoming the second SA national team to qualify for a junior World Cup in 2025.
Earlier this year, the Under-17 side, Amajimbos, also booked their ticket to the Fifa Under-17 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar.
For coach Mdaka, the final represents a reward for months of hard work and rebuilding at youth level.
And for the players, many of whom are still relatively unknown in local football, Sunday's final is a chance to make their names resonate far beyond the borders of South Africa.
The last time a South African men's team lifted a senior CAF trophy was in 1996.
A year later, the Under-20s came close. In 2025, Amajita have the chance to finally finish what that generation started.

Kaizer Chiefs: Motaung on why Amakhosi signed Baartman

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of Luke Baartman on a free transfer. The 19-year-old was formerly in the books of Cape Town Spurs before they got relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Baartman joins Amakhosi a day after his Spurs teammate Asanele Velebayi was unveiled as a Chiefs player. 'Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the Club's ninth signing of the 2025/26 season. The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs,' the club said in a statement on Tuesday evening. Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr welcomed the youngster to Naturena. 'We're thrilled to welcome Luke to our team. He is an exciting young talent that we've been monitoring for the past few seasons both at club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON,' he said. 'We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon,' said the Kaizer Chiefs boss on Baartman. Amakhosi have signed three players in a space of two days. In total, the Glamour Boys have made nine new signings this season. Done deal: Kaizer Chiefs sign teen sensation Luke Baartman after PSL declares him a free agent

Done deal Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of teenager Luke Baartman from Cape Town Spurs on a free transfer. Photo: Ryan Wilkisky/BackpagePix 'He is an exciting young talent that we've been monitoring for the past few seasons both at Club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON. 'We're thrilled to welcome Luke to our team,' the club's Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr said. Baartman had earlier on Tuesday been declared a free agent by the PSL's by the PSL's Dispute Resolution Chamber after the club's attempt to sign him for free had been contested by Cape Town Spurs. 'We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.' At just 19 years old, striker Baartman is regarded as one of the most exciting young footballers in South Africa. He boasts impressive technical skills, including excellent ball control, dribbling, and first touch. While primarily a centre-forward, Baartman is adaptable and can perform in various attacking roles. While at Spurs, he was often deployed as an inside forward, winger, and advanced playmaker. Despite still being a teenager, he has been praised for his maturity and decision-making on the field. Off the field, he's shown a lot of dedication to improving his game, something the hierarchy at Naturena will appreciate in a player so young. Unfortunately, despite all of his talents, he still needs to put a lot of time in the gym, as his slight frame might struggle in the top-flight. Because he's still so young, he has plenty of time to become a more all-rounded footballer. IOL Sport

From Brighton to Vietnam: Is Tau still worth a place in Bafana?

It's hard to see how a stint in Vietnam will elevate the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker's game. Is it time for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to finally close the Percy Tau chapter in the national team setup? That's the burning question may football fans are asking after the forward secured a move to little-known Vietnamese 1 champions, Xanh Nam Dinh FC. Why Vietnam, Percy Tau? Truth be told, Vietnam is not recognised as a football powerhouse. It is far better known as a tourist haven than a football destination. So why would Tau make such a move with the Africa Cup of Nations around the corner and the potential of playing at next year's Fifa World Cup in the United States? ALSO READ: Bafana star Percy Tau finds new home He was a key figure in Broos' Bafana squad that claimed a bronze medal at the last AFCON. This transfer, in my view, places his spot in the Bafana squad in jeopardy. At 31, he still has plenty to offer in a stronger league, where his match sharpness would have been of greater benefit to Bafana in what promises to be a crucial year ahead. It's hard to see how a stint in Vietnam will elevate the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker's game, and this feels like a step backwards. A move back home or to a more competitive league in the Gulf would have made far more sense. Instead, this decision to play in Vietnam gives the impression of a player winding down the twilight of what has been a remarkable career. Nothing to excite Broos Xanh Nam Dinh will feature in the AFC Champions League Two, the Asian Confederation's second-tier competition, but this will do nothing to excite Broos. Bafana currently top Group C in their World Cup qualifiers with four wins from six matches and will also feature at AFCON in Morocco later this year. Players such as Relebohile Mofokeng, Elias Mokwena, and Oswin Appollis should now be central to Broos' plans. Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who continues to perform consistently in Major League Soccer with Minnesota United, is already operating at a far higher level than Tau's new club. ALSO READ: Pirates' Mbokazi asks fans to keep the faith If Hlongwane can't earn a call-up despite excelling in a stronger league, then Tau should not be anywhere near the squad. He has served the Rainbow Nation well, but the time has come for him to pass the baton to the next generation of Bafana stars.
