Alan Bergman, the Oscar-winning lyricist known for his decades-long partnership with his wife Marilyn Bergman, died Thursday night at the age of 99. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he passed away from natural causes at his Los Angeles home, as confirmed by his daughter, producer Julie Bergman Sender.
Together, Alan and Marilyn Bergman formed one of the most successful songwriting teams in film history. Their lyrical collaborations spanned more than 50 years and included timeless classics such as 'The Way We Were,' 'The Windmills of Your Mind,' and 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers.' Marilyn Bergman died in January 2022 at the age of 93.
The Bergmans were frequent collaborators with Barbra Streisand, composer Michel Legrand, and Marvin Hamlisch. They earned three Academy Awards: for 'The Way We Were' (1973), 'The Windmills of Your Mind' (1968), and the score for Yentl (1983). They were also nominated 16 times across their careers, earning recognition for songs featured in The Thomas Crown Affair, Same Time, Next Year, The Happy Ending, and Sometimes a Great Notion, among others.
Their influence extended to television as well, writing theme songs for shows such as Maude, Good Times, Alice, and Brooklyn Bridge. The duo also received three Emmy Awards and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1980.
Alan was born in Brooklyn on September 11, 1925, and served in World War II before pursuing music and theater at the University of North Carolina and later UCLA. Early in his career, he worked as a TV director at CBS in Philadelphia, where he met legendary songwriter Johnny Mercer, who encouraged him to write lyrics.
Alan and Marilyn met in 1956, marrying two years later. Their first collaborations included work with Fred Astaire, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. In addition to his daughter Julie, Alan Bergman is survived by his granddaughter, Emily.

Chris Hemsworth clarifies viral ‘goodbye' video wasn't farewell to Thor ahead of 'Avengers: Doomsday'

Chris Hemsworth has responded to fan speculation that his viral 'thank you' video marked the end of his role as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, insisting it was never intended to signal a departure. Hemsworth posted a video in May titled 'Thank You! The Legacy of Thor', in which he revisited his journey from early auditions through Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. The emotional tone led many to speculate that the character might meet his end in the upcoming film. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth said the clip was meant as gratitude to fans and clarified that it was 'certainly not the intent' to prompt concern. He explained the post was collaboratively created by his social media team and himself, intended only as a celebration of the character's legacy. Hemsworth added that after filming the video, he received feedback that he may have unintentionally caused confusion. 'We didn't do any damage control; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little,' he said, and stressed that he is already embarking on 'another chapter' with Thor. Despite the speculation, Hemsworth's remarks reinforce that he is continuing in the role and that the video was never meant as a farewell. Fan theories had suggested a dramatic end for Thor, including a potential reunion with Loki and a grand finale inspired by the New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 storyline. But Hemsworth's clarification suggests his exit is far from final.

The one time when Matthew McConaughey almost played Jack in James Cameron's Titanic

Matthew McConaughey came close to landing the role of Jack Dawson in Titanic, but a disagreement during the audition process allegedly cost him the part, according to an excerpt from the late producer Jon Landau's memoir The Bigger Picture, shared in journalist Matthew Belloni's newsletter What I'm Hearing. According to Landau, McConaughey was invited to audition alongside Kate Winslet to test for on-screen chemistry — a crucial factor in James Cameron's casting process, noting, 'You want to check for chemistry, not just how people look on film but how they interact. McConaughey, then a rising star, delivered what Landau described as a strong audition.'Kate was taken with Matthew, his presence and charm. Matthew did the scene with the drawl', Landau wrote. But the turning point came when Cameron asked McConaughey to adjust his accent — an essential note, as Cameron envisioned Jack as having a neutral, timeless dialect that wouldn't feel out of place or too regional. According to Landau, the actor refused to comply with Cameron's request, responding simply, 'No. That was pretty good. Thanks.' The brief but firm pushback is said to have ended McConaughey's chances of playing the now-famous character. The role ultimately went to Leonardo DiCaprio, though even his audition wasn't without drama. In a 2022 interview with GQ, Cameron recalled that DiCaprio initially declined to read lines during a test shoot, saying, 'Oh, I don't read.' Cameron told the actor that he wouldn't get the role unless he did the reading, at which point DiCaprio agreed — and impressed everyone in the room. 'Kate just lit up,' Cameron remembered. 'Dark clouds had opened up and a ray of sun came down and lit up Jack. I'm like, 'Alright, he's the guy." The casting of DiCaprio and Winslet would go on to define one of the most beloved film pairings in movie history, with Titanic earning 11 Academy Awards and grossing over $2 billion worldwide.

The two have been together since 2024 and made it official in an intimate ceremony in Canada last night. 'It still feels like a dream. It actually happened.' she wrote with a string of ring emojis. 'Keep us in your Duas as we begin this new chapter together.' Aima reassured fans that more photos of her as a bride are to come. 'Will be uploading our solo pictures eventually, super overwhelmed for now but IA soon.' she said. Whispers of the pair began to circulate the internet in 2024 and speculation continued to rise after the singer shared several pictures with Zain on Instagram. On one such occasion, Aima shared an Instagram story with Zain as the two adorned their necks with chains and twin charms. The three heart emojis accompanying the story coupled with the two evidently showing off their matching accessories were, at the very least, indicative of their closeness to each other.
