Time of India6 days ago
Aizawl: Two people accused of trying to assassinate former Mizoram CM Zoramthanga were acquitted by the judicial magistrate first class of Aizawl district due to insufficient evidence, court sources said.
The judicial magistrate acquitted Rodinliana (39) of Khawzawl town in Mizoram's northeastern Khawzawl district and Chanchinmawia (49) of south Mizoram's Hnahthial town in Hnahthial district on Wednesday. The magistrate after hearing evidences from officials of the cybercrime PS in Aizawl, witnesses and statements of the two accused ruled that though there is a strong suspicion on the accused, the prosecution failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubts.
A Facebook post in Zoram Politics Group-1 threatened to kill Zoramthanga at 1pm on March 11, 2022. A complaint was lodged at the cybercrime police station in Aizawl on April 12, 2022, resulting in cyber sleuths investigating the case. The investigation had lead to the arrest of the two.

Hateful online posts: Dispute between sweet shop owner, customer resolved, says Nuh police

According to police sources, this incident occurred after Prasad refused to accept a payment through UPI from a customer. Ten people were booked after Girraj Prasad, owner of Lala Chandiram Sweets in Anaj Mandi, complained that false propaganda was being run online against his shop on Facebook. Gurugram, Jul 24 (PTI) Nuh Police said that the matter stemming from the hateful online posts against a sweet shop was resolved on Thursday after its owner and a customer resolved the issue amicably. Prasad, in his complaint, alleged that on July 21, some people made false accusations on Facebook against his outlet and his Muslim employees. 'Ten to 12 Muslim employees work at my shop. For the last 30 years, milk has been supplied by suppliers from the Muslim community…It is a well-planned conspiracy and an attempt to spoil the brotherhood and incite communal riots,' Prasad mentioned in the complaint. After the FIR, the social activists and local political leaders went to meet DC Vishram Kumar Meena, where Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar was also present. 'The matter was not related to a particular community but only between a shop owner and a customer, and the matter is resolved now', said Meena. Girraj and his customer both expressed regret over the matter, with the former also agreeing to put a board outside the shop about the payment mode. 3 men sentenced to 7 years in jail for involvement in violent mob attack on Bengaluru police station

On August 12, 2020, an armed mob of around 600-800 agitators tried to break open the gate of the KG Halli police station in Bengaluru and threatened to kill police personnel for preventing them from killing a man who had made some vulgar comments in a Facebook post about Prophet Mohammed, said the statement issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court also imposed a fine on the convicts — Syed Ikramuddin, Syed Asif and Mohammed Atif. New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Three men were convicted and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by a NIA special court in Bengaluru on Thursday in the 2020 KG Halli police station violent mob attack case, an official statement said. During the attack, the three convicts, all supporters of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political arm of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), set vehicles outside the police station on fire as part of a conspiracy hatched with district leaders of the organisation to spread terror and panic in the society. The investigations by the NIA, which took over the case from the local police in September 2020, revealed that the trio had also instigated others to join the attack. The NIA found evidence establishing the commission of a terrorist act by the accused using inflammable substance (petrol) and damage to public and private property to the tune of nearly Rs 14 lakh, the statement said. The accused were chargesheeted in February 2021 and in June 2025, they had pleaded guilty to all the charges against them, it added. PTI AKV RC This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
