Stand-alone Women's Australian Open golf tournament set for March 2026 in Adelaide
The Women's Australian Open will return as a stand-alone tournament in 2026, officially ending Golf Australia's attempts at playing both men's and women's events concurrently.
After sharing the tournament with the men in a mixed and alternate-tees format from 2022 to 2024, the women's event – to be co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour – will move from December to March 12–15 at Kooyonga Golf Club in Adelaide. Golf Australia said Friday that Adelaide, the South Australian state capital, will host the tournament for the next three years. While the 2026 LPGA Tour schedule has not been announced, the US-based circuit typically plays co-sanctioned events in Asia in February and March. That could result in greater opportunities for international players to travel to Australia from the Asia region, including recently-crowned Women's PGA champion Minjee Lee, Australia's top women's player.
Last month, Golf Australia announced that Rory McIlroy will headline the men's Australian Open this year at Royal Melbourne from December 4–7. This year's Masters champion is also contracted to play at nearby Kingston Heath, another Melbourne sandbelt course, in 2026.

Australia lead by 82 runs as West Indies' Test on a knife edge
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: West Indies' pace attack again exposed the vulnerability of the Australian top-order batting as the tourists stuttered to 92 for four in their second innings at stumps on the second day of the first Test at Kensington Oval on Thursday. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport However Chase, in his 50th Test and playing his first match in the traditional format for more than two years, was ruled leg-before to Australian counterpart Pat Cummins for 44 just after lunch by television official Adrian Holdstock even though the available television replays suggested the tall right-hander had edged the ball onto his pads. Holdstock was again the focus of attention when Hope, on 48, appeared to have been cleanly caught down the leg-side by a diving wicketkeeper Alex Carey to give Webster his second wicket. Hope seemed equally convinced as he was almost in the players' pavilion as repeated replays of the dismissal gave a strong indication that the ball had touched the ground as Carey attempted to complete the catch. Holdstock nevertheless upheld the dismissal. Alzarri Joseph contributed an unbeaten 23 but the innings folded swiftly thereafter with Mitchell Starc finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the innings with three for 65. 'We can only ask the questions,' was Starc's deadpan reply to his opinion on the dismissals of Chase and Hope. 'That's what we have the technology for. The questions have to be asked in that direction, not at the players.' On the state of the match, Starc felt the nature of the pitch is keeping the contest close. 'Throughout the two days it's shown that if you bowl in the right areas there are enough chances ,' he said. 'Even when the ball got older or was changed it still did some sideways stuff so the bowlers have been in the game throughout so far and that is likely to continue tomorrow.'

Dan Sheehan To Captain British And Irish Lions On Debut Against Western Force
Ireland hooker Dan Sheehan has been selected as captain on his debut for the British and Irish Lions ahead of Saturday's tour-opening match against the Western Force. Sheehan is one of five Leinster players on debut in the starting lineup against the Perth-based Super Rugby Pacific franchise–the first of nine games in Australia for the Lions. Ireland representatives feature heavily in the 23-player squad, with eight in the starting XV and three on the bench. Maro Itoje is captain for the Lions tour but won't be playing against the Force, opening the way for Sheehan to lead the touring team. He led Ireland against Wales in the Six Nations earlier this year. Lions coach Andy Farrell said the squad had a good period of training and adjusting to the time zone differences since arriving in Australia following a 28–24 warm-up loss to Argentina in Dublin last Friday. Scotland center Sione Tuipulotu and Ireland backrower Tadhg Beirne are the only starters from the loss against Argentina who are back in the starting XV against the Force. 'We know the quality and experience the Force have and the opportunity to play against the Lions always brings out special performances from the Super Rugby sides,' Farrell said. 'So we expect them to be at their best.' The Lions beat the Force 69–17 during the 2013 tour to Australia before edging the Wallabies 2–1 in the three-test series. Lions squad: Elliot Daly (England), Mack Hansen (Ireland), Garry Ringrose (Ireland), Sione Tuipulotu (Scotland), James Lowe (Ireland), Finn Russell (Scotland), Tomos Williams (Wales), Henry Pollock (England), Josh van der Flier (Ireland), Tadhg Beirne (Ireland), Joe McCarthy (Ireland), Scott Cummings (Scotland), Tadhg Furlong (Ireland), Dan Sheehan (Ireland captain), Pierre Schoeman (Scotland). Reserves: Ronan Kelleher (Ireland), Andrew Porter (Ireland), Will Stuart (England), Ollie Chessum (England), Jack Conan (Ireland), Alex Mitchell (England), Huw Jones (Scotland), Marcus Smith (England).
