There was double Dumfries and Galloway delight on rugby's Silver Saturday at Murrayfield.
Wigtownshire Ladies won the Women's Shield, with Annan Warriors claiming the Women's Plate.

Wigtownshire achieved their Shield success on the main pitch at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, seeing off Greenock Wanderers 37-17.
They took the lead with a penalty before Laura McNeil added an unconverted try. Greenock responded with two tries, the second of which was converted, to go 12-8 in front.
But Isla Campbell's try, converted by Sophie Mann, put Wigtownshire back in front, further tries from Niamh Wilson and Amy McNeil seeing them lead 25-12 at the break.
They kept up the pressure when Carla Campbell scored the first try of the second period, Wilson's try being converted by Mann taking their lead to 37-12.
Greenock did add one more try but it wasn't enough to deny Wigtownshire a well-deserved success.
Annan defeated Garioch's second XV 39-24 at The Hive to bring the trophy back to Violetbank.

They opened the scoring after just a minute through Nicole Jancey's try, although it was unconverted.
Garioch drew level and then went 12-5 ahead but Annan rallied just before the break, Kayleigh Warrick scoring a try before Kirsty Barlow added another, Malvina McGeoch converting to put them 17-12 up at the interval.

Garioch then drew level but Niamh Ross' try, converted by McGeoch, put Annan back in front. McGeoch then got a try of her own as Annan went 29-17 in front, before a converted try gave Garioch some hope.

Odsonne Edouard to Celtic transfer return given thumbs up but one major stumbling block cited

French Eddy has been deemed surplus to requirements at FA Cup-winning Crystal Palace Scott Allan insists Celtic shouldn't think twice if an opportunity arises to re-sign Odsonne Edouard. Brendan Rodgers has already brought returning heroes Kieran Tierney and Jota back to Parkhead after stints elsewhere. ‌ Edouard, 27, flopped on loan at Leicester City and has no future at Crystal Palace as he enters the final year of his deal. ‌ The former PSG striker - who swapped Celtic Park for Selhurst Park in a £14million transfer four years ago - was prolific in Glasgow. Rodgers even labelled the Frenchman as one of the best young players he had worked with after shelling out a then-club record £9m to turn his season-long loan into a permanent deal in 2018. And when asked if he should be on Celtic's radar this summer, Allan told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I would, yeah. Fantastic player. It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to. "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." ‌ A potential stumbling block could be Edouard's lucrative salary at the Eagles, something Allan believes could be a deal breaker. The ex-Hoops midfielder said: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money. "The Kieran Tierney one is completely different because he's a huge Celtic fan and he's been dying to get back home and probably feels like he's got unfinished business at Celtic. ‌ "So it'll be interesting but I do feel that Celtic will be looking to find the next Odsonne Edouard where they can get a tune from them and then make money from them." Wallace High girls team aim to follow senior glory in showpiece cup final

The school's under-15 girls side are in action for the Scottish Shield final tonight at the Falkirk Stadium - with the aim of following in the seniors' footsteps. Wallace High's under-15 girls' side are hoping to make it an extra-special season for the school's footballers in their national final this evening. The school's youngsters will take on a team from Braidhurst High in Motherwell in the final of the Scottish Shield at the Falkirk Stadium with an 8pm kick-off. ‌ The under-15 side have already the league and league cup, but are hoping to make it a treble and go one step further in the Shield having finished as runners-up in 2023. ‌ The Falkirk surface has already seen Wallace success with the senior girls' squad defending their national crown with a resounding 11-1 sin over Grove Academy from Dundee - with five of that squad also eligible for the U15s. Head coach Rachel Whillans is Principal Teacher at Wallace High's School of Sport. She said: 'I am so proud of the girls, who have shown an amazing work ethic and commitment all year. 'Most of these girls have been together for three years and their journey and progress has been incredible. They began as S1s in the School of Football programme and have stuck together and worked so hard to get to the level they are at today. 'Hours of training, numerous games and a togetherness like I have never seen before has allowed this talented group to reach a Scottish Cup Final. 'Inspired by the older girls, who won the U18s Shield, the girls have been desperate to emulate this. We have one more game, one more challenge and one more big night at Falkirk Stadium ahead. I know the girls will be ready and give it their all.' ‌ The U15s secured their spot in the showpiece occasion with a dramatic penalty shootout win in the semi-finals over Turnbull High after a 2-2 draw in the regular period of play. Their run has also seen them defeat James Young High, Portobello High, Bathgate Academy and Carnoustie - scoring nine goals in each of those matches. Whillans added: 'It has been a tough run, facing some excellent opposition but this is a special group of players, who I have every confidence in. ‌ 'The semi-final epitomised their spirit. They have one final match to go and we will prepare correctly and give it everything on the night. I am so proud and can't wait to see them walk out in front of the whole school community, who have been so supportive all the way. 'Thank you to our parents, carers, staff and friends and to the girls for their effort, passion and belief.' Wallace head teacher Scott Pennock said: 'One of the great privileges of my job has been spending quality time over the past 12 and a half years cheering from the touchlines and watching a range of our young people across sports realise significant team and personal milestones as they have worked together to grow, progress and achieve. ‌ 'Our senior girls, with some of this team part of that squad, have done amazingly well in reaching three finals in a row and winning two years in succession. 'Our juniors are the future in following on from them and I know their legacy is in safe hands. 'I don't know what the final score will be, but I do know that whatever it is, I will feel nothing but pride as I cheer you on, watching you give your best with a passionate Wallace community behind you. 'Drink in the occasion and atmosphere, and enjoy every minute – your achievements this season have been outstanding and we are all so proud of you.' Lord Provost Elaine Watterson said: 'The senior girls' achievements in the competition last month inspired us all. It would be incredible if the U15 side makes their own mark in the competition and brings even more pride to the Wallace High community. 'The cup final will be a great occasion for both schools, so please come along to the Falkirk Stadium and show your support for these incredible young women.'

Slot closes in on deal to appoint former Arsenal star as his Liverpool assistant

Liverpool are working hard to add new faces to their squad with Arne Slot also hopng to recruit a new coach following the departure Johnny Heitinga earlier this season Liverpool are set to appoint Giovanni van Bronckhorst as assistant boss. Arne Slot is looking to add another Dutchman to his coaching team to replace Johnny Heitinga, who departed to take the top job at Ajax. Van Bronckhorst has been out of work since he was sacked by Besiktas in November. The Dutch coach has previously managed Feyenoord - like Slot - as well as Rangers. ‌ But now he will step back into a role as an assistant to take over from Heitinga if a deal gets completed. Heitinga was a popular figure among the Liverpool players after just a year at the club for the former Everton defender. ‌ But he could not turn down the chance to take charge of Ajax, where he has previously been interim boss. Van Bronckhorst had a distinguished career as a player having played with Rangers, Arsenal, Barcelona and Feyenoord at either end of his playing time. Speaking out earlier this year, Van Bronckhorst shared his disgruntlement about how his spell at Ibrox ended. He said: "I'm frustrated because I had to leave because I am a fighter, I was a fighter as a player and also as a coach. "I think I have done everything in my power to manage the club. If you have to say goodbye to a club, and a club I mean players, the fans to leave, that is not a nice feeling to leave something you love. "But you have to live with it, you have to deal with it and you have to move on because life goes on. I am now in a very positive place where I enjoy life, I enjoy my family and enjoy watching really good games. We all move on." Van Bronckhorst added: "It's something you don't want as a coach. I wish I was still there coaching this team but I also know how it works in football and I am not deciding the future of the club. It is not ideal for a coach and I think also not ideal for a club." ‌ Following his time with Rangers, Van Bronckhorst was appointed by Turkish giants Besiktas but lasted just five months in Istanbul. He won exactly half of the 20 matches he oversaw - and has not returned to the dugout since. Away from the dugout, Liverpool are also hard at work adding to their playing staff. Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi have already been signed and the Reds are still chasing deals for Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz.
