South of Scotland Golfers' Association players compete for the Drennan Salver
Eight man teams from Wigtownshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Dumfriesshire competed for the SSGA Drennan Salver at Colvend Golf Club recently. The course was in excellent condition and the good weather set it up for an excellent days golf. After the morning foursomes Kirkcudbrightshire and Dumfriesshire had three wins each, with Wigtownshire unable to get any points. Some very good singles matches were played in the afternoon and Kirkcudbrightshire were able to claim five of their eight singles which allowed them to edge past holders Dumfriesshire who had four wins. Wigtownshire had a better afternoon and won three matches. The final totals were: Kirkcudbrightshire 8, Dumfriesshire 7, Wigtownshire 3. Ken is pictured with his first camera, which his grandmother gave him the money to buy, paving the way for his decades-long career as a photographer. The studio is located on Charlotte Street in the Dumfries and Galloway town. This family-run business has been a cornerstone of the community for many years, offering a wide range of photography services. It has also published old archives of special occasions and events through the decades. However, after decades in business, the owner of the much-loved shop has confirmed it will close at the end of the month, ahead of his retirement. An announcement on the studio's Facebook page stated: "As I am closing my business in Charlotte Street on 30th April, I have a large stock of new frames for sale at only £3.00 each – any size or style. "Grab yourself a bargain now! "I would like to thank all my customers for their business over the last 50 years. "I still intend to post images from my very popular Classic Collection in the future. Kind regards, Ken." Beloved Celtic Pub on the Market: A Local Icon's Journey Loyal customers were left heartbroken, with residents flocking to the comments section to express their sadness and congratulate Ken on his well-deserved retirement. One customer wrote: "Happy retirement, Ken. What an achievement – 50 years. Have a well-deserved rest." Another said: "End of an era for Stranraer. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement." A third commented: "Thanks for taking all my daughter's baby photos. All the best on your retirement." A fourth added: "I'm so sorry, Kenny. "You are a big part of everything our wee town is. We thank you for this. "Enjoy your well-deserved rest."

Wigtownshire Ladies won the Women's Shield at Murrayfield, with Annan Warriors claiming the Women's Plate. There was double Dumfries and Galloway delight on rugby's Silver Saturday at Murrayfield. Wigtownshire Ladies won the Women's Shield, with Annan Warriors claiming the Women's Plate. Wigtownshire achieved their Shield success on the main pitch at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, seeing off Greenock Wanderers 37-17. They took the lead with a penalty before Laura McNeil added an unconverted try. Greenock responded with two tries, the second of which was converted, to go 12-8 in front. But Isla Campbell's try, converted by Sophie Mann, put Wigtownshire back in front, further tries from Niamh Wilson and Amy McNeil seeing them lead 25-12 at the break. They kept up the pressure when Carla Campbell scored the first try of the second period, Wilson's try being converted by Mann taking their lead to 37-12. Greenock did add one more try but it wasn't enough to deny Wigtownshire a well-deserved success. Annan defeated Garioch's second XV 39-24 at The Hive to bring the trophy back to Violetbank. They opened the scoring after just a minute through Nicole Jancey's try, although it was unconverted. Garioch drew level and then went 12-5 ahead but Annan rallied just before the break, Kayleigh Warrick scoring a try before Kirsty Barlow added another, Malvina McGeoch converting to put them 17-12 up at the interval. Garioch then drew level but Niamh Ross' try, converted by McGeoch, put Annan back in front.
