Mark Pope on return of Kentucky-Indiana basketball rivalry
Kentucky men's basketball coach Mark Pope said "I love everything about" the Kentucky-Indiana basketball rivalry returning for the 2025-26 NCAA season.
One of the top guards in the 2025 men's college basketball recruiting class has traded one group of wildcats for another.
Acaden Lewis, a four-star guard who had previously signed with Kentucky, has committed to Villanova, he told ESPN Thursday.
The 6-foot-2 Lewis is rated by 247Sports' Composite ranking as the No. 29 prospect nationally and the No. 5 point guard in the 2025 recruiting class. Prior to Thursday, he was the highest-ranked player not currently committed to or signed with a school.

He becomes the third member of Villanova's 2025 recruiting class, all of whom have committed to the Wildcats since new coach Kevin Willard was hired. Lewis is the highest-rated player of that group and is Villanova's first top-30 commitment in three years.
Prior to his commitment, Lewis had also taken visits to St. John's, Georgia and Miami over the past two weeks.
"The staff I ultimately had the most trust in was Nova," Lewis said to ESPN. "We built a relationship since my sophomore year, when I first transferred to Sidwell (Friends School in Washington, D.C.). Kevin Willard and his staff were among the first high-major coaches to recruit me at Maryland. I have built a great relationship with them and have immense trust that I will thrive and they will let me be me."
Lewis had previously committed to Kentucky and coach Mark Pope last November and signed with the Wildcats 12 days later. He decommitted from Kentucky on April 10, five days after the Wildcats landed a commitment from Pitt transfer point guard Jaland Lowe.
Villanova, which won two national championships and made three Final Fours between 2016-22, has turned to Willard, who most recently guided Maryland to the Sweet 16, to get the program back to national relevance. Kyle Neptune, who succeeded Jay Wright after the legendary coach retired in 2022, went just 54-47 in three years before being fired in March after his final Wildcats team went 19-14 and failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for a third-consecutive season.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark is at the NBA Finals, taking a baseline seat to cheer on the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. The WNBA star — wearing a yellow T-shirt emblazoned with the famed 'In 49 other states it's just basketball. But this is Indiana' saying along with a finals logo — was seated with Indiana Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard for the game, in the same end of the floor as the Pacers' bench. Among the other Indiana basketball royalty at the game: Hall of Famers Oscar Robertson and Reggie Miller, both seated near the court as well, along with Mark Jackson, Dale Davis and many other former Pacers. The Pacers were taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. It was the first Indiana home game in the NBA's title series since 2000. Clark and the Fever have been regular attendees at Pacers games during this playoff run when their schedule allows. The Fever don't play again until Saturday, at home against the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty. Clark has been sidelined with a thigh injury, but it's possible she returns to the lineup on Saturday. ___ AP NBA:

Maryland center Derik Queen praised in 2025 NBA draft by ESPN analyst

Maryland center Derik Queen praised in 2025 NBA draft by ESPN analyst Derik Queen is a potential lottery pick in the 2025 NBA draft because of his skill set, and the former Maryland center recently earned high praise from ESPN analyst Paul Biancardi. Queen was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, averaging 16.5 points, nine rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks in 36 games on 52.6% shooting from the field. He helped lead the Terrapins to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2016. The 6-foot-10 standout is highly touted for his versatility on offense and ability to score in various ways. He is a tremendous competitor and demonstrated throughout the year his ability to impact games on defense, traits that earned him a high distinction from Biancardi. Queen, also an AP All-American honorable mention, set the program freshman scoring record (594 points) after registering 12 20-point games and 15 double-doubles, which led all first-year players. He ranked sixth in scoring average among Power Four freshmen. The 20-year-old competed in the combine last month, registering a 7-foot wingspan in the anthropometric measurement testing. He dazzled with that length with the Terrapins, another key trait that makes him an intriguing prospect at the next level. Queen had a tremendous rise up draft boards throughout the season and is on the verge of becoming a first-round pick, as a result. He projects to have a bright future ahead and should fit in well with teams drafting in the lottery on June 25.
