They have plunged by almost a third since ChatGPT was launched in November 2022, as more firms begin to use AI for basic tasks.

Already, almost a million young people aged under 25 are categorised as being NEETs — not in employment, education or training.
But while firms complain of a skills shortage, unlocking the potential of jobless youngsters could plug the gap and turbocharge economic growth.
Youth Employment Week begins on Monday and will see charities, social enterprises and youth workers come together to highlight the enormous potential of the UK's younger generation.

MOVEMENT TO WORK is a not-for-profit coalition of major UK employers aiming to break the 'no work experience, no work' cycle.
Employers including Accenture, BAE Systems, Barclays, Centrica, Diageo, Marriott, M&S, Tesco and Salesforce have signed up to offer work experience to NEETs.
Applicants do not need formal qualifications.
After Brandon Tattersall lost his job at Currys he was out of work for 16 months.
But with help from his social worker, he secured a placement at BAE Systems through Movement to Work and was offered a job with the firm. Now 26, Brandon is an HR data analyst.
He said: 'The programme didn't just offer a placement — it gave me the skills and interview practice needed to feel prepared for future applications and gain the real work experience employers ask for.'

As a dad at the age of 14 and a grandfather at 35, Alex Hughes has faced struggles in his life.

1. You are not the problem. The system is messy, and it often makes you feel like you are failing. You just haven't found your space yet.
2. Find your people. Surround yourself with those who listen and look out for you. Whether it is a youth group, a mentor or a local hub. Community changes everything.
3. Try something that feels too small to matter. A one-day event. A volunteer role. Saying yes to a random opportunity. That tiny move might be your big unlock. Just consider how this experience will help you develop yourself.
4. Turn rejection into redirection. Every 'no' is fuel. Take it as a sign you are trying and that means you are already further than most.
5. Ask for help, loudly or quietly. There are people and places who are built to back you. Don't suffer in silence. You are not alone.
6. Dream big then take one step. You don't need a ten-year plan. You need a reason to get out of bed this week. One step is enough. Then another. Then another.

WHEN you are young with a learning disability or autism, finding a job can be even more challenging.
But supported internships are proving one of the most effective ways for people to show off their skills to potential employers.

DFN Project SEARCH is a charity that helped more than 4,500 young people gain work experience last year, with structured study programmes for school and college leavers aged 16 to 24.
The national charity works with young people who have an Education, Health and Care Plan.
It aims to increase the employment rate for youngsters with special educational needs and disabilities, with 63 per cent of trainees going on to employment.
One of the programme's top success stories is Juned Ali, from London.
Juned, who has a mild learning disability, did a placement at Queen Mary University of London.
He now has a role as a GP's co-ordinator and administrative assistant.
He said: 'DFN Project SEARCH has completely changed my life. At first, my mum was reluctant about me starting the supported internship, but when she saw how well I was doing, she was proud.
'Now, I earn my own money. I don't have to ask my family for things, like I did when I was younger. I can just go out and get it. I kick-started my career from the age of 18, and I'm thriving.
'I'm 20 years old, and my goal is to keep progressing in my career, work towards higher roles and, someday, get married.'
Kirsty Matthews, CEO of DFN Project SEARCH, said: 'We see young adults with a learning disability, who are autistic, or both, demonstrate their talents and capabilities every day.'
SWERVE BURNOUT WITH HOL
'HOLIDAY hoarding' is a growing issue, as two thirds of staff now fail to take half their annual leave by the middle of the year.
HR experts have designated this week as the peak for burnout, with staff becoming ill through lack of time off.

1. Reflect on why you are holiday hoarding. Are you leaving it late when it comes to booking holidays?
Is your workload preventing you from taking a break? Or are you worried about what your employer might think if you take all your leave?
If it is a workplace culture or workload issue, talk to your manager. We are all entitled to take our holiday and our employer should not make us feel guilty about doing so.
2. Book time off – even if you don't end up going away. We need regular breaks from work to give us time to relax, reset, and show up as our best selves at work.
3. Make a plan to 'holiday hack'. Maximising annual leave is really important. Be savvy about when you book leave, and plan ahead to spread your holidays through the year. Look at least a year ahead and make the most of the bank holidays to stretch your leave even further.
4. Try microbreaks. Getting the dates booked is the first step to holding yourself accountable and giving yourself permission to take the regular breaks from work you are entitled to.
5. Assess why you are carrying over holiday to the next year. It's fine if it is planned, but it shouldn't be happening by accident.
Cost of teenage try-outs
A LACK of money is holding back millions of young people from accessing work experience, research says.
The AAT study reveals 41 per cent of 14 to 18-year-olds have less than £8 per day to spend on work experience-related costs such as travel, food and suitable clothing.
Meanwhile, almost a third of employers say increased operational and staffing costs are affecting their ability to pay work experience students or cover expenses.
To help, AAT has teamed up with Springpod to launch virtual work experience into the sought-after accountancy sector.
AAT boss Sarah Beale said: 'Too many young people are locked out of early career experiences simply because they don't have the opportunities or right connections.
'That's a clear barrier to social mobility, and one we are determined to break down.'

Welsh independence will unleash 'full potential' as nationalists serious contenders to form next government
Wales should "learn" from the SNP's successes in Scotland, according to the man who could well be the next first minister of Wales. Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth told Sky News: "I believe that we will not be able to fully release our potential until we're an independent nation." He admitted "not everybody agrees" but believes there should be a discussion about how to "edge things forwards" on independence. The party leader has ruled out a referendum in his first term but says support for Welsh independence is growing among young voters. Mr ap Iorwerth, whose party is neck and neck with Reform UK and Labour in the polls to lead the Welsh Parliament next year, says his party takes "very, very seriously the positive impact" the SNP has had in Scotland. It comes as a government minister admitted there are "major" questions about how fairly Wales is funded compared with Scotland. Stephen Kinnock, the Labour MP for Aberafan Maesteg, told Sky News he and other Welsh MPs are looking for a reassessment of the funding formula. He said the Barnett formula, which decides the allocation of much of the funding from the treasury to devolved nations, works "much better" for Scotland and the industrial heritage and age demographics in Wales mean the nation has been historically underserved. Since Mr Kinnock spoke to Sky News, Wales was awarded £5bn in revenue and capital over three years, largely for rail infrastructure, in the spending review. However, some Welsh Labour MPs fear the growing nationalist tide could mirror Scotland's 2007 shift. Lessons "have not been learned" from Scotland, Labour Member of the Welsh Parliament Lee Waters said. Speaking to the Labour List website, he warned: "The control of the party machinery by London HQ, and the disdain of Westminster MPs towards their devolved counterparts were features now and then." Mr Waters sounded the alarm for Welsh Labour, adding: "Scottish Labour paid the price for it in 2007. The SNP seized on its chance to form a minority government and used it to build a generation of dominance. Plaid Cymru aim to do the same." Does Wales get treated unfairly? It's a question that could propel Reform UK or Plaid Cymru to power in Wales this time next year - a seismic political shift in a nation dominated by Welsh Labour since devolution began. The closure of the blast furnaces at Port Talbot, the end of virgin steelmaking in this country, drew comparisons with the government's intervention at Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire. Why was an English steelmaking site saved and not a Welsh one? The answer, as Wales MP and government minister Stephen Kinnock tells me, is not straightforward. The owners of Scunthorpe were "actively sabotaging the blast furnaces", and Labour were not in power in Westminster when decisions about Port Talbot were being made. "You have to set the bar really high when you're going to, as a government, go in and seize the assets of a private company," he said. But Port Talbot has become symbolic of something bigger, and it's not just about steel. Last month, a new railway line between Oxford and Cambridge was classed as an England and Wales project, meaning Wales does not get a share of funding, and earlier this year Wales' first minister said the allocation of HS2 funding was "unfair" for Wales. But Welsh Labour's Eluned Morgan may not have done enough to distance herself from the national party. Jac Larner from Wales' Governance Centre at Cardiff University says her emphasis on the close relationship between Welsh and UK Labour echoes the message from Scottish Labour before their vote collapsed. It makes it "easier for voters to punish both" he said. Launching his party's so-called contract with voters in Merthyr Tydfil, Nigel Farage said Wales has been "let down". The Reform UK leaders' progress in Wales has been notable, but as has that of a lesser known party leader, Plaid Cymru's Rhun ap Iorwerth. Can Wales' nationalist party echo the SNP's success in Scotland? Both parties are fishing in the same waters for disillusioned Labour voters. Both have a real shot at power in Wales. Reform UK are also tapping into a mood of discontent in Wales. Leader Nigel Farage has put re-industrialisation at the centre of his pitch and even pledged to reopen Port Talbot's steel blast furnaces. In last year's general election, Reform UK came second in 13 of the 32 Welsh constituencies. 1:37 Those close to Mr Farage suggest he sees the Welsh elections next year as an important stepping stone in his ambitions to get to 10 Downing Street. Asked about Reform UK, the Plaid Cymru leader said he sees it as his "duty" to keep the party out of power in Wales. Mr ap Iorwerth said Mr Farage's party "have no particular interest in developing policy for Wales".

For those who are trapped in the midst of the leasehold scandal, the reforms cannot come soon enough. They have been promised change for many years by successive governments and by Labour in opposition, so any progress will be welcome, but is it enough for those suffering financially? It's a complex problem but at the heart of it are service charges that go higher and higher in a way that is often inexplicable, unpredictable and opaque. These are fees for building services and maintenance that are on top of the homeowner's mortgage. They often run into thousands of pounds, go way over the initial estimate and it is not clear why they are so high. By forcing companies to be transparent about the fees they are charging, the government is hoping to tackle this. The reforms, which the government has said it will push through after a consultation, will receive standardised service charge documentation which spell out clear and detailed information about how their service charges are calculated and spent. Further reforms will stop leaseholders having to automatically pay for landlords' litigation costs even where they have won their case. According to housing minister Matthew Pennycook, the changes will enable homeowners to challenge unreasonable charges more easily. He also believes it will put pressure on managing agents to bring fees down. The government will also introduce a strict new qualification regime for managing agents to try to raise standards in the sector. Mr Pennycook told Sky News: "The system has some inherent inequities in it that do allow leaseholders to be gouged and particularly when it comes to managing agents there are unscrupulous people out there. "They are abusing leaseholders and there's poor practice. "The reforms we are announcing today and reforms that are to come are going to bear down managing agents and ensure the sector as a whole is properly regulated." Asked why it has taken a year to make this announcement, and why further changes could take much longer, he said: "We've got to take forward through primary legislation the wider reforms necessary to bring the system to an end. "You can't do that in 100 days but we are also determined to provide relief to existing leaseholders now."

Ministers reveal plan to nearly double onshore wind across England by 2030
The Government has unveiled its plan to almost double onshore wind across England by 2030. Ministers want to expand the country's onshore wind capacity from 14.8GW to 27-29GW by the end of the decade. It comes as part of wider Government ambitions to transition towards a clean power system by 2030, with the hope of boosting economic growth, creating jobs, reducing bills, decarbonising the grid and strengthening energy security. Last year, Labour axed the de facto ban on building onshore wind farms introduced by the Conservatives under David Cameron. The Government's move put onshore wind on an equal planning footing to offshore wind and nuclear, paving the way for projects to be rolled out faster in the coming years. The Conservatives criticised the strategy, accusing Energy Secretary Ed Miliband of making the country's energy 'unreliable and expensive' through his 'obsession with climate targets'. As part of the plan, the Government set out 40 actions for ministers and industry to take to hit the 2030 onshore wind ambitions. These include planning reforms, building supply chains and skilled workforces, resolving issues over how onshore turbines and aerospace infrastructure can co-exist, repowering old turbines, and exploring plans to expand the clean industry bonus for onshore wind. The Government claimed the strategy will support the creation of up to 45,000 skilled jobs by the end of the decade. In the foreword, Mr Miliband said: 'As one of the cheapest and fastest-to-build sources of power we have, onshore wind will play a critical role in boosting our energy independence with clean power by 2030. 'The reality is that every turbine we build helps protect families, businesses and the public finances from future fossil fuel shocks.' Matthieu Hue, co-chairman of the Onshore Wind Taskforce and chief executive of EDF Power Solutions UK and Ireland, said: 'This strategy is focusing on overcoming barriers and challenges we face across the industry in the deployment of onshore wind while capturing the major socio-economic benefits it can bring to the environment and to local economies. 'This is a critical part of making Britain a clean energy superpower and delivering energy security.' The Government said communities that host wind farms will benefit from money for community initiatives, such as new football pitches or libraries, or even bill discount schemes. A typical 25MW wind farm paying the industry standard of £5,000 per MW of installed capacity per year could deliver £3.75 million of funding to be redistributed among the community on local initiatives of their choosing over a 30-year operating life, according to the strategy document. In a statement, shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho said: '(The Energy Secretary) is shutting down the North Sea, concreting our gas wells and he's downgraded our plans for nuclear. 'All this means is that families' energy bills are going to go through the roof, and we'll just end up importing more from coal-powered China. 'The US security services have already warned us that Chinese wind turbines could pose serious risks to our national security, but he won't do a China audit. Ed wants to hit Net Zero targets no matter the cost to the British public.' Elsewhere, the Government recently completed a process to de-risk offshore wind developments, led by the Marine Spatial Prioritisation Programme. It said this will inform the Crown Estate's marine delivery route map on strategic use of the seabed so that more offshore wind farms can be built in a way that considers all marine sectors, including fisheries, and protects the environment. James Robottom, RenewableUK's head of onshore wind delivery, said: 'Overturning the unpopular onshore wind ban, which deprived us of one of the quickest and cheapest technologies to build for a decade, was just the start. 'The hard work to make the most of this great opportunity to grow our economy and strengthen the UK's energy security is now in full swing.' Sue Ferns, senior deputy general secretary of trade union Prospect, said: 'The lost years resulting from the last government's inexplicable ban have resulted in significant workforce and skills-related challenges that urgently need to be addressed, which hopefully they will be in the forthcoming clean energy workforce plan.'
