Disabled veterans at the airport have been able to part wherever they want for free since 2016 according to officials, but were given new restrictions in October 2024. Certain areas became limited to only certain veterans.
While people with handicap tags were able to park in the valet and elsewhere for free, disabled veterans whose tags don't have the wheelchair symbol were not.

Airport spokesperson Michael Stewart said the construction of a third garage was making it harder for everyone to find parking. Veterans we spoke with at the time accused the airport of moving them out of the lots to make more money on paying parkers.

Now, those with a regular disabled veteran tag will be able to park for free in the Economy Lots, Daily Garage, and Daily Surface Lot. City Councilman Nick Howland says Hourly Garage privileges will be restored when construction there is complete.
Disabled veterans that have tags with the wheelchair symbol can park anywhere they want for free.
In a post to social media, Howland continued, saying, 'Thank you to Chair Michelle Barnett, CEO Mark Vanloh, and the Airport team for honoring our heroes!'

Kohl's to close Butler County e-Fulfillment Center; over 700 employees impacted
Kohl's will be shutting down its e-Fulfillment Center in Butler County. It's a decision that'll impact more than 700 employees. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) sent to state and local officials, a human resources leader at Kohl's said its facility at 3500 Salzman Road will permanently close on October 31, 2025. While the facility has a Middletown address, it is located in Monroe. All employees have already been informed of the closure. The notice states the last day for employment will be September 12, 2025. 'It is possible that one or more employees will remain actively employed for a limited time after the Facility is closed to assist with administrative tasks related to its closure,' the WARN notice said. 'Of those employees who remain with the company to assist with administrative tasks related to closure, all will be separated by October 31, 2025.' Kohl's said a union doesn't represent the employees, and there are no bumping rights. News Center 7 reported earlier this year that Kohl's closed 27 underperforming stores across the country, including two in Ohio, both of which were in the Cincinnati area. There are still nine Kohl's locations in the Miami Valley. You can find them here. [SIGN UP: WHIO-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Dunwoody announces proposed increase to property taxes, millage rate to remain unchanged
In a pair of announcements, the City of Dunwoody announced they planned to increase their property tax rates but will not increase the millage rate. According to the city, the dueling notices are due to millage rates compared to rollback millage rates. For Dunwoody, the property taxes will be 3.61% over the rollback millage rate, even though the rate itself for 2025 will be unchanged. In terms of why the city released two different statements on the property tax, officials said it was 'to give context that the state one does not allow.' More specifically, Dunwoody officials said the rate was set based on a yearly assessment by the board of tax assessors, who review the value of property in DeKalb County for tax purposes. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] "When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicate there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment," Dunwoody said in a statement. 'This is called a reassessment." A rollback millage rate must be computed to produce the same total revenue on the year's tax digest, according to state law, but is calculated without factoring in the reassessments. For taxpayers, more specifically homeowners, Dunwoody officials are trying to keep the millage rate at 3.040 mills for 2025, as well as include a one-mill reduction for homestead properties, which would make those homeowners have a rate of 2.040. 'The city will continue to freeze assessed values for those same properties,' Dunwoody officials said. 'These combined exemptions mean that no homestead property will see a city tax bill increase this year.' However, the city did confirm there will be tax increases for commercial properties and non-homesteaded residential properties such as rental units, which have higher assessed values. By state law, changes to property taxes require public meetings, so the city will hold hearings on the tax increases at city hall on the following dates and times: Monday June 16 at 8 a.m. Monday June 16 at 6 p.m. Monday June 30 at 6 p.m. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]
