Malaysia 2040 aspirations align with national unity agenda
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang stated that by 2040, Malaysia aims to become a fair nation where citizens thrive in a socially just society.
He emphasised the importance of upholding the Rukun Negara as the foundation of unity and progress.
'Building a sovereign and dignified nation requires a robust social system rooted in MADANI values and national identity,' he said.
Aaron highlighted efforts to cultivate citizens with strong spiritual values, humanity, and resilience while fostering a fair, harmonious, and united society.
He spoke at the launch of the 2025 Harmony Week in conjunction with National Day at UCSI University, Taman Connaught, Cheras.
Also present were the Ministry of National Unity's Secretary-General Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid and UCSI University President Prof. Emeritus Datuk Ts. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir.
Aaron noted that MADANI human development will focus on education reform and instilling patriotism.
A progressive society will prioritise integration, goodwill, and volunteerism to strengthen unity.
He envisioned a future Malaysia where diversity in religion, ethnicity, and background unites the nation under the MADANI spirit.
'Values like mutual respect, empathy, and understanding will be reinforced to preserve harmony,' he said.
The MADANI government is committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and dignified life for all citizens.
Aaron urged collective efforts to achieve the Malaysia 2040 vision for a harmonious, prosperous, and globally competitive nation. - Bernama

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Bangladesh's chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Yunus and his delegation were received by home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on their arrival at KLIA Terminal 1, Bernama reported. Wisma Putra said the visit is in response to Anwar's official trip to Bangladesh in October last year. Yunus, who is accompanied by several advisers and senior government officials, will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex tomorrow. This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar. The two leaders are expected to discuss regional and international developments of mutual concern and review progress in Malaysia-Bangladesh relations in key areas such as trade and investment, labour cooperation, education, tourism and defence. Both leaders will also witness the signing of several MoUs in areas such as defence, energy, strategic and international studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion. Wisma Putra said Anwar will host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex in honour of Yunus and his delegation. Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner and export destination in South Asia. Total trade between the two nations reached RM13.35 billion last year, an increase of 5.1% compared with 2023. The major Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals, while imports comprise mainly of textiles, footwear, and manufactured items. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation established since diplomatic ties were forged in 1972.

NST Leader: Desecration of Jalur Gemilang
To fly the Jalur Gemilang upside down is an insult to the dignity of our beloved nation, but a hardware store owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, has done exactly that. And to do that just weeks before the country celebrates its National Day is like stabbing the very heart of the nation. Insult a man's dignity, he may forgive you. But insult the dignity of the nation, which the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of, he will neither forgive you nor forget the disrespectful act. So will not the nation. The proof of this is the numerous police reports lodged around the country by loyal Malaysians and statements issued by national leaders. Disturbed as he was, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang took to X, urging the police to take firm action against the offender, stressing the need for the action to serve as a lesson to all. Flying the flag correctly is every citizen's responsibility as a sign of respect and love for the country, Bernama quoted him as saying. He is right. To fly the Jalur Gemilang incorrectly is to seek to blemish the sovereignty, dignity and unity of the nation. Such an abhorrent act mustn't be tolerated. Strongly worded condemnation was also issued by Penang PKR Youth chief Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal in a statement on Saturday. He said the act of flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down was disrespectful, irresponsible, and an insult to the dignity of the nation. He said if the act was proven to be deliberate, no compromise should be shown. We say the same, too. Zakwan also called on the hardware store owner to issue a public apology to all Malaysians. As this Leader goes to press, no such apology has been issued. The police are saying that there is a case for prosecution. The hardware shop owner, who was detained on Sunday and released on police bail later, is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. If there is a case for prosecution, it is high time the authorities bring to bear the full brunt of the law on him to show how serious an insult to the dignity of the nation is. There have been far too many cases in the past, many of the culprits feigning ignorance. Utter incredulity must be the response. Even in the past, it wasn't the act of one who hadn't come of age. Or the act of one who suffered from some disease of the mind. Though the past acts showed clear disrespect for the dignity of the nation, we chose to adopt a softly, softly approach. The Kepala Batas incident proves to the authorities that such an approach was wrong. Nay it might have even encouraged it. If what the police investigation is saying is right, then the full brunt of the law must be brought to bear on him. Even ordinary crime demands punishment. Insulting the symbol of the dignity of a nation is no ordinary crime. As severe as it is, so must the punishment be.

Tanjong MP distributes Jalur Gemilang for National Month celebrations
GEORGE TOWN: The Tanjong MP Service Centre has distributed 1,600 Jalur Gemilang flags to 21 schools in the parliamentary constituency in preparation for National Day and Malaysia Day 2025. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying officiated the distribution of 6,000 mini Jalur Gemilang flags to students at the Tanjong Parliamentary Constituency District Level National Month Launching Ceremony. Lim, who is also the Tanjong MP, encouraged all schools in the area to proudly display the Jalur Gemilang at their gates, buildings, or classrooms. She emphasised that the flag is more than just a decoration but a symbol of spirit, hope, and responsibility for the younger generation. 'Let every corner be decorated with the Jalur Gemilang colours as a symbol of unity of heart, love for the country and appreciation for the sacrifices of past warriors,' she said. Lim also presided over the 2024 STPM Excellence Incentive Presentation Ceremony, awarding RM10,600 to 28 high-achieving students. Two students from Kolej Tingkatan Enam Hutchings and SMKA Al-Mashoor Perempuan achieved a perfect Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 4.0.
