Custom 400-HP V8-Powered Buggy Will Either Give You The Drive Of Your Life Or Finally End Your Suffering
The smartest thing to do with your money right now is probably to hold onto as much of it as possible until we get a better idea of what's actually happening with the economy, but at the same time, no one has ever accused enthusiasts of being smart with their money. After all, even the few cars that do appreciate rarely beat the stock market, and that doesn't even include all the other money you have to spend to keep it on the road. If you happen to be looking to do something illogical with your money, though, why not spend some of it on a V8-powered custom buggy that makes a claimed 400 horsepower and is also titled for street use?
I mean, do you need this thing? Absolutely not. But also, you absolutely need this thing. Other cars have roofs, airbags, crumple zones and all those other things that keep you safe, but how are you supposed to have any fun if you also play it safe? Much to Peter Thiel's chagrin, no one can possibly live forever, so we might as well get the most out of the short lives we're forced to lead. And what's going to add more joy to your life — a fully funded 401k or a 400 hp dune buggy that's allegedly street legal in Michigan? I think we both know the answer to that.

If this looks different from the buggies you usually see, that's because it was designed and built by a Michigan artist named Joey Ruiter. The listing claims it was designed to be as quick and easy to repair as possible while also offering a mid-mounted Chevrolet-sourced 6.3-liter V8, 25 inches of wheel travel, four tires and not much else. But while you could argue the automatic transmission could be better in certain off-road situations, it's still a little disappointing to see there's no manual. Even if three pedals made it objectively worse, it would probably make subjectively better, and that's what matters most.
Will you survive a crash behind the wheel of this thing? That's between you, your surgeons, and your insurance company. Will you have the time of your life up until that point? Heck yeah, you will. And anyone who refuses to go for a ride was never a true friend in the first place, and I bet they hate having fun, too. You don't need them anyway. Not with a V8-powered custom buggy to drive, which again, is allegedly legal to do in Michigan. Just, I don't know, maybe wear a helmet? Not that Michigan would care about that, either.

Could GM rival Tesla in EV sales by 2026? These electric vehicles are the ones to watch
General Motors is one of the Big Three American automakers alongside Stellantis (formerly Chrysler) and Ford. Like Ford, GM has made incredible headway in the EV space, rolling out competitive electric vehicles across its portfolio of brands. Some of its nameplates are giving the company the potential to overthrow Tesla as the dominant EV sales leader. Affordability, brand recognition, and Tesla's recent fall from grace are all contributing factors in GM's sudden EV sales boom. Does the automaker have what it takes to dethrone a brand that has become synonymous with electric vehicles in America? GMC electric vehicle sales increased by a whopping 183% from Q1 2024 to Q1 2025 according to Cox Automotive, an automotive research company. The American automaker sold 4,728 EVs, up from 1,668 EVs in the first quarter of 2024. Its Chevrolet brand sold 19,186 electric vehicles, an 114% increase from 8,957 in the first quarter of 2024. Cadillac, GM's luxury division, saw electric vehicle sales increase by over 37% from 5,800 to 7,972 year-over-year. On paper, General Motors is gaining serious traction in its mission to become a competitor in the EV space. A closer look at some of its most popular offerings across its portfolio of brands shows just how easy it could be for the company to overtake Tesla in the future. Chevrolet Equinox EV (10,329 units) Chevrolet Blazer EV (6,187 units) Cadillac Lyriq (4,300 units) GMC Hummer Truck/SUV (3,479 units) General Motors currently offers 10 electric vehicles across its GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac brands. Of the 10 EVs, the Chevrolet Equinox EV is its best-selling model by thousands of units. Chevrolet has sold 10,329 Equinox EV models in Q1 2025. Its pricing and specs explain why the electric family SUV is becoming so popular among drivers. The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT 1 front-wheel drive starts at $34,995. According to Chevy, it's eligible for the federal electric vehicle tax credit of $7,500, bringing its true cost closer to $27,495. The Equinox EV is currently the most affordable electric SUV in its segment (factoring in the tax incentive). Chevy's EV has an estimated 319 miles of driving range. It also comes with plenty of advanced standard features despite its low starting price. A 17.7-inch diagonal advanced color LCD display Adaptive cruise control Automatic emergency braking Natural voice recognition Rear park assist The Equinox EV comes in three trims: the LT 1, LT 2 ($41,900), and RS ($43,400) final configuration. Chevy offers all-wheel drive on every trim for an additional cost. Each trim is more affordable than the average new vehicle cost (nearly $50K according to CNBC). The federal EV tax incentive makes these options even more attractive for drivers looking to save money on a new electric vehicle. GM's explosive year-over-year EV sales growth could be a sign of things to come as the company's electric vehicles gain popularity and market share. GM EVs may not beat Tesla EVs when it comes to a direct side-by-side comparison in the performance category, but the company has a competitive edge in terms of pricing. Tesla's current most affordable electric vehicle is the Model 3 sedan which starts at $42,490 ($34,990 post-tax incentive). In comparison, GM's most affordable EV across its portfolio, the larger Equinox EV, is more affordable than Tesla's sedan by $7,495. While both models are below the average new vehicle price, the Equinox EV offers more value for American families in terms of cabin and cargo space as a larger model. Another factor in the sales battle between GM's brands and Tesla is the damage that Tesla has sustained since January. The company's share price nosedived by over 41% from January 2 to April 8. Additionally, Americans have protested Tesla and its CEO due to Elon Musk's former role as senior advisor to the president. Tesla stock is down 15% from January 2 at the time of writing, but the brand has suffered damage that's wreaking havoc on global sales. The recent sales plunge is the biggest decline in history, according to CNN. So, General Motors and its portfolio of brands could have a better shot at besting Tesla in electric vehicle sales in 2026. Peter Thiel-Backed ‘Enhanced Olympics' Is Elaborate Supplement-Selling Scheme: Report
Tech billionaires like to paint themselves as contrarian geniuses—guys (pretty much always guys) who see institutions insist that things should be done one way because of silly things like evidence and experience and respond, 'I, a person who has zero knowledge or exposure to this thing, know better.' There is perhaps no starker illustration of this mindset than the 'Enhanced Games,' an Olympics-like competition with Peter Thiel's backing that sets aside bans on performance-enhancing drugs and encourages competitors to inject themselves in whatever will make them the best version of themselves. According to a new report from Wired, things are not going quite as planned. To be clear, the Enhanced Games do appear to be happening. They're scheduled for May 2026 in Las Vegas, a handful of athletes are on board, and there is funding from the likes of Thiel and Donald Trump Jr.'s 1789 Capital. But behind the scenes, it seems like things have been a bit of a mess. For example, to promote the games, founder Aron D'Souza put up $1 million for any 'enhanced' athlete (read: taking drugs that are banned from other official competitions) to beat the swimming world records for the 100-meter sprint or the 50-meter freestyle. Kristian Gkolomeev, a 31-year-old Olympian from Bulgaria, achieved that goal…but he wasn't the horse that the Enhanced movement initially backed. Australian swimmer James Magnussen was supposed to be the poster boy for the games, moving to California to undergo a doping regimen that had him hopped up on testosterone and growth hormones to train his way to a world record. According to Wired, Magnussen actually ended up getting too buff, his muscle mass weighing him down and bulking him up so much that when they gave him his swimsuit—a full-body polyurethane 'supersuit' that has been banned from Olympic competition—he ripped it. When he finally got in the water to put the enhanced approach to the test, he posted a time that was 1.2 seconds slower than his own personal best from when he was swimming clean. Gkolomeev joined the 'Enhanced' challenge late, but benefited from a toned-down regimen that made Magnussen too big. He ultimately did set a new world record, though when he tried to replicate it weeks later, after more time on the doping program and his body undergoing more changes, he finished with a slower time. Wired asked both the swimmer and his trainer if he could have beaten the world record without drugs, and both concluded he probably could have. Ah well! D'Souza—perhaps best known as the guy who led Thiel's litigation against Gawker—seems to be a true believer in the whole 'Enhanced' (read: drugged-up) human movement, and he seems confused as to why no one else gets it. Per Wired, part of the reason he launched his competition was because he had dinner with members of the International Olympic Committee and found them to display 'unimpressive' intellect. But it seems the further the project goes, the more D'Souza and company realize there might be standards in place for a reason. He's already backed down from a drug-fueled free-for-all to restricting participating athletes to using drugs that are legal in their home country and prescribed to them by a doctor, and they have to undergo strict monitoring to make sure their bodies are responding well to doping. Meanwhile, the real motive behind the 'Enhanced' movement appears to be simple: it's a scheme to sell supplements and sports drinks, a giant market with extremely high margins. Wired reported that D'Souza announced Enhanced Performance Products alongside the upcoming Enhanced Games. Someone should tell him it'd be cheaper to just start a podcast.
