TIME Unveils Special Report 'Five Years Later: America Looks for a Way Forward After George Floyd'
TIME to Host 'TIME Impact Dinner: The Road to Justice' in Washington, D.C. on May 20, in Partnership with the Center for Policing Equity
May 1, 2025— Today, TIME publishes ' Five Years Later: America Looks for a Way Forward After George Floyd,' a special report released ahead of the fifth anniversary of George Floyd's murder. In the wake of Floyd's death, millions of Americans took to the streets, launching the largest protests in U.S. history and marking a watershed moment that demanded safety, dignity, and an end to anti-Black racism. Produced in collaboration with the Center for Policing Equity, the special package features a collection of interviews and essays from scholars, activists, artists, and more, exploring why the pursuit of racial justice remains so challenging in America.

'Few periods have influenced the course of American history in the last century as the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, and the worldwide protest movement that sprung from it the following summer,' said TIME Editor in Chief Sam Jacobs. 'We are grateful to partner with the Center for Policing Equity to publish work from artists, photographers and writers, each reflecting on the impact of this moment and the work that remains undone.'
The new cover for the project is a painting, Holding On (Blue), by Tajh Rust for TIME. On the painting Rust writes: 'I've been using this water motif to speak to a shared history and a collective memory across the Black diaspora. The water gives us a chance to reflect, but it can also be a flood. Our stories, challenges, and triumphs are connected by oceans. This family unit is inundated by the rising water, yet they stay above it. The hope may be found in the younger generation.'

Many of the sleuths—including Raven Harrison, a U.S. House candidate from Florida—believe they've found evidence that Biden's face is really a synthetic mask operated by a robot underneath. 'That's a mask. I don't know when he died. The Vegas trip?' one user commented. 'They were using doubles even back then? Clearly, this is a rubber mask.' Others dug up videos claiming to show 'Giant Biden,' a robot that supposedly replaced the real Biden and stands a few inches taller than the 'original.' One post proposed that Biden's moments of forgetfulness and stumbles are in fact 'disconnections' with his robotic system. Dozens of clips comparing Biden's recent speeches with older ones—where he appears more youthful and energetic—were offered as further 'evidence.' One user posted side-by-side photos of a younger and older Biden—labeled 'Original Biden' and 'Double Biden'—with arrows pointing to his right earlobe—which, according to the conspiracy theory, used to be attached, but now hangs free. And if that's not convincing enough, others pointed to a supposed change in Biden's eye color—from blue to black—as a final clue. Truth Social users celebrated Trump for finally revealing the 'truth.' 'The boss just posted this….how much more do people need!?" one user commented, along with three fire emojis. 'I believe the President Trump on this one,' another wrote. 'Sometimes Biden did look like a robot the way he held his hands gave it away ... Wake up Americans...' The robo-clone claims, in some ways, undercut a more grounded allegation—that Biden's team was involved in a 'cover-up' of his cognitive decline toward the end of his term—which has gained traction following revelations in a new bombshell book, Original Sin. Biden, who recently shared that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, has tried to push back on questions about his fitness for office, saying Friday that he felt well enough to 'beat the hell out of' Jake Tapper, the book's co-author. Biden now joins a list of celebrities who have been accused of dying and being swapped out, including The Beatles' Paul McCartney, who has been dodging rumors about his death since 1969, and Avril Lavigne, who has been plagued by a conspiracy theory involving her death and subsequent replacement by a clone since the 2000s. One commenter couldn't hide his delighted shock at Trump embracing such an outlandish conspiracy theory: 'Can't believe you really posted this!! HUGE! Thank you Mr. President!' But Trump has a long track record of promoting debunked or baseless theories, and his embrace of conspiracy thinking extends well beyond social media. Many of his closest allies frequently peddle in conspiracy theories, including Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., FBI Director Kash Patel, and recently-departed special advisor Elon Musk.

'Are You Kidding Me?': CNN Data Chief Stunned By Democrats' Polling On This Key Issue
CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten on Monday revealed how Democrats' messaging on the economy continues to fare worse than Republicans' over four months into President Donald Trump's second term. 'How is that possible, Democrats?' asked Enten in a segment with CNN's Kate Bolduan. 'How is that possible after all the recession fears, after the stock market's been doing all of this, after all the tariffs that Americans are against, and Republicans still hold an 8-point lead on the economy. Are you kidding me?' Enten turned to new CNN/SRS polling from May showing the GOP had an 8-percentage-point advantage with registered voters who were asked which party more closely aligned with their economic views — a figure within the margin of error. In November 2023, the party had an 11-point advantage over Democrats, Enten noted. Republicans also had an edge among registered voters who were asked which party had a better economic plan, per Reuters/Ipsos polling, with a 9-percentage-point advantage in May 2024 and a 12-point advantage this past month. 'And again, this is after months of supposed economic uncertainty in which the stock market's been going bonkers, in which the tariff wars that Americans are against have been going on,' Enten said. 'And yet, despite all of that, the Democrats are down by 12 points on the economy. This speaks to Democratic problems on the economy better than basically anything that you could possibly look at.' Enten added that Republicans are still 'not out of the ballgame' because of these figures, even with Trump's approval ratings. Bolduan remarked that the GOP has also gained ground with the middle class before Enten turned to both NBC/CNBC and CNN/SSRS polling showing Democrats are now tied with Republicans when registered voters were asked which party is about the middle class. Democrats once held a 23-point advantage over the GOP on the question, Enten flagged. 'This, I think, speaks to Democratic ills more than anything else. They have traditionally been the party of the middle class. No more,' he said. 'Donald Trump and the Republican Party have taken that mantle away.' Common sense but true: Don't let people who hate America move here
I pledge allegiance, to the flag . . . I heard those strange words for the first time at Riverside Elementary School in 1976, as a First Grader who had just moved to the United States with my family. I learned quickly how to say the words, but it took me much longer to learn what they mean. Like Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington, I was born English but chose to become an American. I took US history in middle and high school, got a degree in history, and later taught American history to 8th and 11th graders. But though I knew the names and dates, nothing taught me to love my country like spending half my life outside of it, including 23 years as a US diplomat in Africa, Asia, and Europe. The singularity of American freedom and opportunity is best proven through comparison. Like many other Americans who came here legally and became citizens, nothing rankles me more than seeing disrespect, ingratitude, and even homicidal violence from some who have been granted the opportunity to come here — or allowed to remain despite coming illegally. You'd figure the least they could do would be to obey our rules and respect our culture and values. Watching Columbia University and other supposed elite institutions become hot-beds of radical protest and support for antisemitism and terrorist violence has been painful. It's bad enough when the ill-informed youth are home-grown, but when foreign students here on visas are leading the charge, it's too much to take. So, we shouldn't – and we don't have to. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's recent announcement that he will interpret our visa laws to keep out those who would steal our secrets, undermine our democracy, or obstruct our foreign policy abroad, is cheering news. AP Photo/David Zalubowski He's suggesting nothing new – our immigration law already contains many ineligibilities both statutory and discretionary, which he can wield. All across the developed West, the same crisis is playing out: who gets to decide who comes in, and who stays? Does our citizenship have any value? Do we ask nothing in exchange? The global Left does not believe in borders. They think anyone, anywhere should be allowed to live where they want. When they get there, the Left believes they should get all the rights of citizens – health care, education, welfare, and even the vote. For them, under no circumstances should a foreigner – invited or not, criminal or not – ever be evicted. This is a recipe for national suicide, and it's a choice we should reject. On Sunday, an Egyptian illegal immigrant attempted to kill several American Jews in Boulder, Colorado by burning them alive. It appears the man entered the US with a tourist visa in 2022, which would have allowed him to come for six months tops. He overstayed, like maybe half a million other foreigners do every year and then claimed asylum so he wouldn't be kicked out. He was given a work permit while he waited years for his immigration case to work through the system. This kind of 'defensive' asylum claim is the easiest ploy for someone, even with no credible case, to remain here. Millions of aliens are waiting in processing backlogs, most of them with cases that don't qualify. Millions more entered illegally over land and were released by DHS when Joe Biden was president, with the administration encouraging them to all claim asylum. Soliman is in the country illegally. AP As Lora Ries and I argued in a recent Heritage report, it's time we reformed our asylum and refugee process so that it prioritizes American interests, brings in a finite number of people that we can accommodate and assimilate, and ends the farce of mass economic migration based on fraud. At the same time, the State Department is right to use the wide discretion they already have under immigration law to more carefully screen those coming in on visas, for whatever purpose. Anyone likely to be coming to foment political unrest should be denied — particularly students, who will stay for years. If visitors or students become undesirable after they get here, they should be sent home. Actively working against American basic values or foreign policy should be a negative factor in applications for legal permanent residence. The process should be real, not a rubber stamp. The bar for citizenship should be the highest of all — requiring not just a basic knowledge of civics, English, and history, but a proven love of this country, or at the very least no evinced hatred for it. We have enough domestic strife without importing the squabbles of the Middle East and the rest of the world. And though terrorism is the worst case of allowing in, or letting remain, people who harbor ill will towards our country or its people, every week brings examples of Americans robbed, raped, killed by drunk drivers, and even murdered by people who would not have been here if we had properly guarded our borders and enforced our laws. Just over a year ago, our Heritage Foundation Center for Border Security and Immigration started this visual map showing just a few examples of these preventable crimes. What started as a few spots has turned into a solid mass in some areas – like Massachusetts, whose governor seems to care more about the rights of illegal aliens than her own voters. No foreign national has a right to a US visa. Once they arrive, each visitor must do what he said he was coming here to do, and obey our laws. Some will learn to value this country enough to want to become Americans. Many of these will find a way, and they are welcome. But to preserve this unique society so many still want to join, we need to start according our country the singular value it deserves.
