"The party that misused Article 356": Pralhad Joshi slams Congress over record on free speech, democracy

India Gazette26-05-2025

New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, on Monday criticised the Indian National Congress for what he called a 'hypocritical' stance on democracy and freedom of expression.
Taking to microblogging platform X, Joshi wrote, 'It is deeply ironic that a party dominated by a single family is now speaking about democracy and freedom of speech.'
Joshi was replying to a post by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh in which he called the completion of 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi an 'Undeclared Emergency.'
He posed four pointed questions to the Congress and its president, Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging a history of democratic suppression.
'Will @INCIndia & Mr. @Kharge put some light on the following,' he wrote while referring to historical instances, he stated, 'This is the same Congress party that has misused Article 356 over a hundred times to topple democratically elected governments across the country.'
He further added, 'In 1975, it declared a national Emergency for personal and political gain, suspending fundamental rights and stripping citizens of their freedoms.'

Joshi also criticised the Congress-led government in Karnataka, stating, 'Its own government in Karnataka has issued a gag order, eerily reminiscent of the Emergency era tactics. And now, they are targeting and attempting to arrest journalists and news anchors who express views critical of the party.'
This comes after Congress Chief Malikarjuna Kharge, in a post on X, took on the Central government and mentioned that inflation in the country is at its 'peak' whereas unemployment is on the 'rise'. He also accused the government of ruining relations with every country rather than fulfilling the promise of making India a 'Vishwa Guru'.
He wrote, 'Economy - inflation at its peak, unemployment on the rise, consumption at a standstill, Make in India flopping and inequality at its peak. Foreign Policy - promised to become 'Vishwaguru' but spoiled relations with every country. Democracy - RSS attacks every pillar, misuse of ED/CBI, and autonomy of institutions destroyed. Every section of the 140 crore population is troubled. This is how the Lotus symbol has been in 11 years!!'
Kharge's comment came with the completion of 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's being in office.
Kharge stated that their promise of 'achchhey din' has turned out to be a 'dreadful' dream. He stated that a promise of doubling farmers' income was not fulfilled, so they had to take rubber bullets, whereas women's security is currently in 'tatters.'
Kharge further alleged atrocities against the minorities of the country and believed that their participation in society is lost.
'26 May 2014. In 11 years, by turning tall 'promises' into hollow 'claims', the Modi Government has ruined the country in such a way that the talk of 'achchhey din' has now turned out to be a 'dreadful dream'. Youth - promise of two crore jobs per year, in reality, crores are missing. Farmers' income did not double; on top of that, they had to take rubber bullets. Women - conditions apply to reservation, security in tatters. Weaker sections - SC/ST/OBC/minorities are facing terrible atrocities, their participation is lost,' Mallikarjun Kharge's 'X' post read. BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, calls him Pakistan's spokesperson

Rahul Gandhi (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: On the day when Rahul Gandhi 's surrender barb at PM Narendra Modi became a talking point in Pakistan as lawmakers and ministers used his remarks and statements to fuel their anti-India propaganda, BJP on Thursday attacked the Congress MP for alleging that Trump forced India to accept a ceasefire on May 10, with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan saying he is promoting Pakistan propaganda. "Rahul Gandhi is Pakistan's spokesperson. Pakistan would not acknowledge this and he would deny this. But the Congress leader's conduct is the clinching evidence," Pradhan said, adding, "This is not a conspiracy theory, nor is it motivated by partisanship. The proof is in the public domain and for everyone to see. He has been Pakistan's trumpet." Pradhan said from accusing Hindus and Hindutva of violence to lying that India surrendered to foreign pressure to suspend Operation Sindoor , Rahul has unfailingly parroted Islamabad line. "He copies and pastes statements on Pakistan's website and exposes his stupidity," Pradhan said. Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif, in a viral video, could be heard speaking about Rahul's jibe at the Indian govt. "People of India are beginning to realise that their Prime Minister has surrendered," Asif claimed, in an attempt to save his own face after his humiliating takedown during Operation Sindoor. Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju also took note of the viral video and slammed the Congress MP for crossing the line, so much so that it seems to be going against the nation. "There is a limit to stupidity & opposition! There's nobody in Congress Party to tell him that being in the opposition party does not mean, to oppose the nation?" TNN

"12 naxals with total bounty of over Rs 1 crore surrendered today": Maharashtra CM Fadnavis

Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) [India], June 6 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that around 12 naxals, having a total bounty of over Rs one crore, surrendered before him in Gadhchiroli. Speaking with the media, CM Fadnavis urged the Naxals to surrender, adding that if they don't, then action will be taken against them. 'Today, around 12 naxals with a total bounty of over Rs 1 crore surrendered before me here. This is a big blow to Naxalism. The Naxals want to join the mainstream now. I believe this is a significant incident. There are very few Naxals left in the state today. I urge them to surrender. If they do not surrender, then action will be taken against them,' the Maharashtra CM said. According to a press note from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, a total of 704 active Maoists till date have surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police. It mentioned the 12 Maoists who surrendered today. 'Today, twelve Senior Maoist Cadre Sapana (55), Ramdas (55), Shivlal (60), Pushpa (55), Kosa Kumma Gota (Commander of Kutul LOS) aged 35 years, Durgi (35), Ajay (27), Sangita (40), Savita (35), Anju (25), Aruna (30) and Dilip (28) have surrendered before the Chief Minister,' the release stated. Dilip will receive Rs 5 lakhs as reward for rehabilitation. 'State government has announced a reward of Rs. 1.5 lakhs as additional assistance to Maoist members who are husband and wife for their surrender. (Shivlal Pada and his wife Pushpa),' the release said. Devendra Fadnavis also attended the mass wedding ceremony of surrendered Naxalites in Gadchiroli. Speaking on this, he said, '13 couples who were earlier naxals got married in a mass wedding ceremony today. They not only surrendered but also joined the mainstream.' Earlier today, CM Fadnavis visited the Kawande Police Outpost on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border in the Gadchiroli district. This outpost was set up by the Maharashtra Police in March this year. Speaking with ANI, CM Fadnavis highlighted that earlier, even the administration could not reach here, but the Maharashtra Police opened an outpost here, thus providing security to the people here. 'Kawande is like the first village at the border or the village that comes first after entry from Chhattisgarh. There is the Abujhmarh forest nearby, and even the administration could not reach here. But our Police opened an outpost here. Due to this outpost, not just Police dominance, but we also filled a security vacuum. We also set up a 4G tower here. Police provided security, and we provide government schemes through this outpost. So, this has built confidence among people,' CM Fadnavis asserted. Speaking on the deadline to eliminate naxalism, the Maharashtra CM emphasised that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged that the country will be Naxalism-free by March 2026.
