Hyderabad: GHMC Seizes Mangalya Shopping Mall Branch in Hyderabad for Lack of Occupancy Certificate

Hans India11-06-2025
There is hardly anyone in the Telugu states who hasn't heard of Mangalya Shopping Mall. This shopping destination regularly attracts customers with special offers and is especially popular among women for its wide variety of collections. The mall has branches in almost every area of Hyderabad.
However, the real situation came to light during inspections by GHMC Town Planning officials. On Wednesday (June 11), officials seized the multi-storey Mangalya Shopping Mall building at RTC Cross Roads in Hyderabad, which was reportedly constructed without proper permission.
According to GHMC Circle 15 Town Planning officials, the building was seized due to the lack of an Occupancy Certificate. Full details about the violations are still awaited. Officials have issued warnings that strict action will be taken against any commercial establishment operating without the required approvals.
Interestingly, this particular branch of Mangalya Shopping Mall — its 20th store in Hyderabad — was inaugurated by actress Keerthy Suresh in September last year. During the launch, she expressed happiness at opening the new store and mentioned that the mall offers a wide range of clothing including silk, fancy, Kanchi, Dharmavaram, Uppada silk sarees, kidswear, men's and women's ethnic wear, and special outfits for weddings and festive occasions.

Telugu producers move to clip wings of film workers' union in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Amid ongoing tensions in Telugu cinema, producers are preparing to appeal to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against what they describe as 'the federation's monopoly.' T Prasanna Kumar, general secretary of the Telugu Film Producers Council, confirmed: 'We have prepared all the documents to move the CCI in New Delhi, and our representatives are already there.' Kumar noted that a similar challenge surfaced in 2017, when the CCI questioned the Federation's restrictive rules that prevent non-members from working in films. He added: 'We will again make the Chamber a party in this case and demand that producers be allowed to hire workers of their choice without any hassles.' The producers also raised concerns over the federation's stipulation that local 'fighters' (stunt professionals) must be hired even if an equal number are flown in from Mumbai. 'We end up paying local fighters even if they don't work. Out of the 25,000 workers in the Federation, only about 50% are getting jobs,' Kumar said. Producers view this as part of the broader inflexibility in working arrangements. 'We hope they will soon accept the Chamber's proposals for a nine-hour shift and other proposals. The demand for extra pay for dual-language shoots should also be scrapped, since they already earn double wages if working hours are extended,' he added. The dispute forms part of a larger conflict over wage structures, union demands, and industry labour practices. Producers insist their moves are aimed not at undermining protections but at offering alternatives within a legal framework. As the battle unfolds, stakeholders across Tollywood remain watchful for resolutions that could reshape hiring norms and labour dynamics in the regional film industry.

Andhra Pradesh crafts get ODOP boost with digital catalogue, ₹172-Crore PM Ekta Mall in Visakhapatnam

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday about the government's ongoing efforts to promote One District One Product (ODOP) items across the country. Responding to a question from Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar during the monsoon session, the Minister highlighted the launch of a Digital ODOP Gift Catalogue featuring over 1,000 products, including iconic Andhra Pradesh specialties such as Etikoppaka toys and Dharmavaram sarees. To provide a physical platform for these products, the government is developing PM Ekta Malls across the country. In Andhra Pradesh, a flagship mall is being constructed on a five-acre site in Visakhapatnam, with an estimated investment of ₹172 crore. The State government has submitted the Detailed Project Report, which has received approval from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and construction is currently underway. The mall is expected to be operational by May 2026. Under the ODOP initiative, 99 unique products spanning Andhra Pradesh's 26 districts have been identified. These include agricultural produce, food-processed goods, handicrafts, handloom textiles, manufactured items, and marine-based products. Although DPIIT does not provide direct financial assistance under ODOP, the State government has undertaken several promotional measures, including the establishment of common facility centres, testing laboratories, packaging units, and design hubs to support producers and exporters. In addition, workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building programmes focusing on youth and women are being organised to enhance marketing, branding, packaging, and quality standards of ODOP products. According to the Minister, sales of ODOP items are steadily rising, with many products now available on online platforms such as Lepakshi and APCO.
