Wes Anderson reveals his 'unsuccessful' attempts to cast Jodie Foster in multiple films

Acclaimed director Wes Anderson, known for his quirky and star-studded ensemble casts, recently shared that he has tried, but failed, to cast actress Jodie Foster in several of his films over the years. The Oscar-winning director revealed that despite his repeated efforts, timing never seemed to align, preventing him from working with the legendary actress. According to Deadline, in a recent interview, Anderson admitted, "Over the years, I had so many movies that I tried to get Jodie Foster to be in." He explained that this was a recurring effort, with Foster being approached for roles in several films. "It used to be that every movie, we went to Jodie Foster for a part. And I think I did it three movies in a row, maybe four," Anderson recalled, speaking fondly of his admiration for the actress. "I met her, and I liked her. And I thought it was going to get her. And I think she's just great, Jodie Foster," he said. "And I loved her." Despite his best efforts, Anderson's attempts to cast Foster were unsuccessful, and the timing never seemed right for both parties. The director went on to explain that sometimes the timing and type of work just don't match up. "I still would like to get Jodie Foster. But I guess after asking a few times, I thought maybe I'm not... I think sometimes somebody has an idea of the kind of work they want to do at that time in his or her life, and we weren't right," he said. Anderson did not specify which roles he envisioned for Foster. Anderson's most recent work, The Phoenician Scheme, marks his 13th feature film. The film is centred around Benicio del Toro, who plays Zsa-zsa Korda, a wealthy businessman. Korda becomes the target of a dangerous pursuit after appointing his nun daughter, Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton), as the sole heir to his vast estate. The film has been released in theatres, garnering attention for its unique storytelling and star-studded cast, further cementing Anderson's signature style. Meanwhile, Jodie Foster made her debut in French cinema with Vie privee (A Private Life). The film premiered last month at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where The Phoenician Scheme was also in the running for the Palme d'Or.

Why Arnold Schwarzenegger argued with 'Terminator' director James Cameron

Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger recalled his argument with Terminator director James Cameron. "I studied the script for a month, and I have someone that reads the parts with me, and we rehearse and we do reps. It's from bodybuilding—reps, reps, reps," Schwarzenegger was quoted as saying by People magazine. "The more reps you do, the better you get." "It also comes from the old school. Billy Wilder, the Austrian director, always said, 'I didn't hire you to be interpreters. I hired you to be actors.' The old directors were fanatics about 'Study your dialogue and hit the mark,'" he recalled. During the discussion, Schwarzenegger revealed he had a fight with the director over lines, but Cameron wouldn't budge. Schwarzenegger provided an example of how "Jim Cameron is like that," recalling when he told him, "I don't like the line 'I'll be back.' " "He says, 'What do you mean you don't like the line?' I said, 'It's just weird for a German to say, "I'll be back." Why not just say, "I will be back"?' " Cameron responded to Schwarzenegger by saying, "Oh, you're trying to tell me how to be a better writer? Because I'm not telling you to be a better actor. Just say, 'I'll be back.' If you want me to do 10 takes because you feel insecure about it, we can do that. But don't change my writing." Of course the line stayed, and has been quoted endlessly ever since, reported People. In 2023, Schwarzenegger praised Cameron's writing on The Terminator for predicting the future of artificial intelligence, which has now "become a reality". "Today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go," the actor said of current concerns around AI, during An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles in June 2023. "And in this movie, in Terminator, we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over," as per the outlet. Schwarzenegger celebrated the "brilliance of writing" in Cameron's sci-fi film, given that "at that time we had scratched the surface of AI, artificial intelligence. Think about that." "Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it's not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron," Schwarzenegger said.

Create Production brings Vox Cinemas' sonic identity to life with Hans Zimmer

Create Production has joined forces with Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment to unveil Fall in Love with Film, Vox Cinemas' latest brand film that signals a new chapter for the region's premier cinema operator. The cinematic tribute, released in celebration of Vox Cinemas' 25th anniversary, is underscored by an original score and sonic identity created by legendary composer Hans Zimmer. The emotionally rich film is a love letter to the power of cinema, weaving together themes of love, community, and escapism. At its heart is the story of a young boy growing up with the cinema as his lifelong companion. The narrative is brought to life by Zimmer's evocative score, blending Hollywood-style orchestration with 90s nostalgia and Arabic musical elements. As part of Vox's broader 'experience-first' strategy to reconnect with audiences, Create Production oversaw the entire creative process, from script development to full-scale production across eight regional markets. The campaign produced more than 85 assets in a variety of languages, formats, and platforms, ranging from IMAX screens to social media reels. Create also led localisation efforts across four languages and dialects, ensuring cultural resonance throughout the region. Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Producer at Create Production, said: 'Working alongside the Vox Cinemas team to develop a film worthy of Hans Zimmer's signature sound was a true privilege. We set out to craft a narrative that celebrates Vox's magic and elevates the region's sonic identity.' The brand film is currently screening in Vox Cinemas across the Middle East, with additional distribution on digital platforms, social media, and out-of-home advertising. The custom sonic branding developed for the campaign will continue to roll out throughout 2025, becoming an integral part of the Vox experience—from cinema lobbies to customer service interactions. This project adds to Create Production's portfolio of landmark regional campaigns, continuing its track record of high-profile collaborations, including previous work with Zimmer and large-scale productions across the Middle East.
