Tasmania Police seize more than 3kg of the drug ice after Spirit of Tasmania terminal screening
Four people have been charged after police found a "significant quantity" of the drug ice in three separate searches in Tasmania's north-west this week.
"The methylamphetamine [ice] seized by our officers in the north-west in the past few days could have resulted in more than 35,000 individual street deals," Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said.
On Wednesday afternoon, police found 3.39kg of ice and 5 litres of the drug GHB during routine screening at the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport.
A 27-year-old Bracknell woman was later charged with major trafficking, importation of a controlled drug, dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime, and other minor drug offences.
The matter is now before the Devonport Magistrates Court.
"Tasmania Police will continue to target offenders who attempt to import illicit substances into Tasmania," Western District Acting Commander Nathan Johnston said.
In an unrelated incident, two people were charged with trafficking after police seized 63 grams of ice.
"Members of Taskforce Scelus attempted to intercept the vehicle during routine patrols at West Ulverstone on Tuesday afternoon, when the driver allegedly evaded officers," police said.
They used road spikes to stop the vehicle and said the driver and passenger, a West Ulverstone man, 29, and a Newnham woman, 24, were "safely taken into custody".
The man and the woman were jointly charged with trafficking and minor drug offences, and the man was also charged with evading police (aggravated circumstances), and multiple driving-related offences, including unlicensed driving.
They were both remanded in custody. The man was due to appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Friday, and the woman on June 4.
Police also found a quantity of ice at a Devonport home, in another unrelated search.
Police said a north-west man, 51, had been charged over allegedly selling a controlled drug, possessing a controlled drug, and using a controlled drug.
They also alleged the man was a member of the Outlaws motorcycle gang.
He is due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.

Brawling Aussie blokes halt traffic on busy road
A fiery bust-up between two drivers has brought a busy Gold Coast intersection to a screeching halt — and it's all been caught on camera by horrified onlookers. Footage posted to social media on Saturday shows the moment a roadside showdown exploded on Currumburra Road in Ashmore, when tensions boiled over between the driver of a white Holden Commodore and a man behind the wheel of a silver Volkswagen ute. In the now-viral video, the Commodore driver can be heard screaming 'Come on!' as he lunges into the open window of the VW, landing a punch. Not satisfied, he delivers another blow while egging the other man to step out of the vehicle — all as stunned drivers watch on during a green light. Instead of getting out, the Volkswagen driver takes matters into his own hands by performing an illegal U-turn, mounting a median strip and pulling up aggressively in front of the Commodore's bonnet. The Holden driver can then be seen jumping back into his car and swerving around the 4X4, before speeding off with the VW in hot pursuit. The showdown has clocked up over two million views on Facebook, sparking widespread debate about road rage and driver behaviour. 'They're acting like toddlers throwing tantrums,' remarked one viewer. 'Wow, people are getting crazy on the roads now,' said another. A spokesperson for Queensland Police Service told Courier Mail that police were aware of the video, but no formal complaint had been made.

Body found in reserve in Sydney's west potentially a middle-aged woman, police say
A crime scene has been set up at a reserve in Western Sydney and an investigation is underway after a body was found on Sunday. Police officers went to Irwin Street in Werrington at about 1:15pm after a passer-by spotted the body in a remote part of the reserve, with sporting fields on one side and houses on the other, and called triple-0. Detective Superintendent Trent King said he had been informed the body was "potentially a middle-aged woman", and had been there "for a period of time." "Now, at this stage, I don't believe it was wrapped," he said. "There were some items around the body, but not wrapped — so, other clothing items and other rubbish." However, he was quick to point out the investigation was in its infancy and it was too early to tell if there were any injuries or signs of rape. Forensic officers are canvassing the scene as part of Strike Force Dowerin, which includes Nepean detectives and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad. The Missing Persons Unit is also assisting the investigation. In response to questions about the involvement of homicide detectives, Superintendent King said it was necessary until the cause of death was established. "We're hoping, certainly in the next couple of days, through both the post-mortem examination as well as the examination today, that we will have further information," he said. Vision from the scene shows a police tent over a blue tarpaulin covering the ground not far from where the body was found. Superintendent King said it was "certainly part of the crime scene." "We're not discounting anything at this stage in relation to that aspect of it. "I don't have any information of what's underneath." Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Grisly discovery in western Sydney bushland
A woman's body was been found in bushland in western Sydney on Sunday after a passer-by made the grisly discovery. Police were called to reserve off Irwin Street at Werrington just after 1pm. The woman has yet to be identified, but is believed to be middle aged. Specialist police are on the scene and her cause of death has yet to be determined. 'The area of the reserve in question is quite isolated, it appears the body has been there for a period of time,' Detective Superintendent Trent King said. Police found other items, including clothing, around the body. Asked how long the body had been there, Supt King said: 'Certainly a period of time, it's very difficult to ascertain at this stage… We're hoping in the next couple of days through post-mortem examination and the (forensic examination of the scene), we will have further information about that. Police are working with the Missing Person's unit in an attempt to identify the woman. Witnesses have been urged to contact Nepean detectives or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
