Patrick Kielty admits he 'didn't feel like an equal partner' in 12-year marriage to Cat Deeley and couple had 'rough patches' before announcing their split
In a joint statement, the pair, aged 54 and 48 respectively, confirmed: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.
'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.'
Speaking on The Mid-Point podcast in July 2023, Patrick told how he thought he was in a '50/50 partnership' but then later felt more like a 'junior shareholder'.
Asked how he and Cat made decisions in their marriage, he said: 'For a long time I genuinely thought I was in a 50/50 partnership [laughs].
'Then you realise you're actually a junior shareholder in a 50/50 partnership.
'You go, 'I thought we were 50/50? Why do you seem to have more shares?'
'I think with big decisions you kind of have to float stuff and see how that's going to go. You know, drop that into conversation.'
Patrick also discussed the couple's decision to leave Los Angeles and move back to London in 2020 after a decade living in California.
'What was weird about it was it was Cat who more wanted to do that. It was more so her decision,' Patrick said.
'I think being a new mum and not having the family around and not having the network of cousins and brothers, and so I think, for me, London is not home. It will never really be home for me.
'In my head, I still live in a little village in County Down, even though I haven't lived there full time for 30 years. These are the tricks you play on yourself.
'Living in London, my family was always a flight away anyway, so that idea of being a longer flight away from LA wasn't as much of a problem for me as someone who had to get a flight to go to see them anyway.
'I also think because Cat was the one with a successful career out there, she was the one who chose to leave that at the right time, and that's a decision that she made and only she can make.'
Patrick was also asked if, at the time, he and Cat were the happiest they'd ever been.
'Yeah, look, you know 10 years into marriage, it is something you work at,' he said.
'It's that idea that what attracts you is not going to keep you together.
'It's that idea of how you work together whenever the rough and the smooth and all those things … it's a journey.
'You put those kids into the mix and suddenly those priorities change, and all of those things.
'I think anybody who feels they can put their feet up and go, 'Yeah, that's marriage cracked,' you're kind of going, 'Really?!' '
Cat notably did not attend Patrick's mother Mary's funeral back in March.
It was reported that she stayed home in order to support their two young children, Milo, nine, and James, seven, who were suffering the loss of their grandmother.
Patrick, 54, looked bereft as he carried Mary's coffin through his home village, where he was joined by close family and friends at the Church of the Sacred Heart.
A spokesperson for Cat told Daily Mail at the time: 'Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.'
Cat and Patrick first met in 2002 while they hosted BBC talent show Fame Academy, however sparks didn't fly between the couple until 10 years later.
After being friends for years, their friendship turned to romance thanks to his major gesture when he flew all the way from Belfast to Los Angeles for brunch with Cat.
Previously talking about how they got together he told the Daily Mail: 'Well there had always been a spark between us, but either she was with someone or I was, and then she moved to LA, so opportunities for something to develop were limited.
'Unless someone was stupid enough to get on a plane, nothing would have happened.
'Cat was in LA and I was in Northern Ireland, so I texted her to wish her a happy birthday.
'When she said she was having a birthday lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel, I said I'd be there. She told me to go to sleep as I was drunk.
'That was 2am. I got up at 5am, went to Belfast airport for 6am, got the 7.15am flight to Heathrow, landed at 8.30am, took off again at 9.40am and arrived in LA at 1.15pm.
'I was at the Beverly Hills Hotel by 2.15pm. When I walked in, Cat looked at me and said: "Oh, you're good!""
They married in a secret, intimate ceremony in Rome in 2012 with their close family and friends present.
A wedding photo showed the pair looking blissfully happy as they enjoy a celebratory drink at their wedding reception.
The couple lived in California for over 14 years as she presented So You Think You Can Dance but they put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $4.9 million (£3.8 million).
They moved back to North London in 2020 after buying a £4.9 million property in Hampstead.
The pair have been renovating the fixer-upper since moving in, with the couple's architect telling Daily Mail: 'The proposed external appearance builds on the inherent character of the existing house but updates it into a contemporary dwelling both in use and character.
'It is inspired by mid-twentieth design ranging from the designs of Alvar Aalto to houses of the west coast of America which are familiar to the clients who spent many years living there.
'Materials have also been introduced that connect the clients to their previous home in LA and to places that have significant memories for them.'
The move came prior to Cat securing her job at This Morning amid fears of gun violence following an incident in which Patrick had to hide from a gunman in a Los Angeles mall.
The star recalled: 'They shut down the centre. I got a call from Paddy, saying, "They're taking us out through the fire exits but nobody can get to their car. If we walk to a junction, can you come and get us?"
'He wanted to keep Milo calm, so I didn't understand the enormity of what was happening.
'As I was driving I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and SWAT squads. It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying.'
The couple started their family while living in the US and explained that she found moving back to the UK 'really hard', even though she felt it was necessary with LA becoming increasingly unsafe in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
She added: 'It doesn't feel as safe as it used to be. There's an edge, which wasn't there before. The health system is failing miserably.
'After the pandemic there are lots of vulnerable people with severe mental health issues that have just fallen through the net.'
Back in 2024 Patrick opened up about the tricky times the couple had faced balancing their careers.
Prior to her job at This Morning, Cat was the host of So You Think You Can Dance over in the US.
Speaking about a period during Christmas 2023, Patrick told The Times: 'There was a moment after Christmas that was tricky.
'She had to fly to Atlanta for seven weeks. There was a wee bit of a juggle there. But I think with all these things, as long as you have a routine, it doesn't take as much fizz out of you as some people think.'
They moved back to North London in 2020, prior to Cat securing her job at This Morning amid fears of gun violence following an incident in which Patrick had to hide from a gunman in a Los Angeles mall (pictured at the Emmy Awards in 2015)
Discussing how things have changed since her move to This Morning he added: 'Because Cat's doing her stuff in the morning, she would normally be back just after lunchtime. And we've got the start of the week and the weekends together, so it's not "Hi/bye".'
The former couple are estimated to be worth approximately £11million with Cat believed to be on around £600,000 per year to host This Morning.
Patrick, on the other hand, was given a three-year, £216,000 contract to host 30 episodes of the Late Late Show, after he took over from Ryan Tubridy.
Meanwhile last year Cat stunned ITV viewers when she made a shock bedroom confession on This Morning.
She and her co-host Ben Shephard were discussing whether separate rooms are the key to a happy marriage alongside Linda Lusardi and married couple Emma and Kevin - who choose to sleep in separate bedrooms.
Speaking about her own bedroom arrangements, Cat revealed her sleeping situation with Patrick.
She explained: 'It's one of those things that because of our schedule here [This Morning], from Monday to Thursday I sleep in the guest bedroom and the rest of the time I'm back.
'Because otherwise I get up at 5am and I want to fall asleep earlier.'
Before marrying Patrick, This Morning presenter Cat was married to businessman Mark Whelan for five years. They divorced in 2006.
Northern Irish comedian and presenter Patrick was in a high-profile relationship with Amanda Bryam for five years, separating in 2003.

Oasis ‘shocked and saddened' after fan falls to his death at Wembley show
Oasis said they were 'shocked and saddened' after a fan fell to his death during their sell-out Wembley show this weekend. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after attending the concert on Saturday night. Witnesses described the 'horrendous' scenes after the man reportedly fell from a balcony during the band's long-anticipated reunion tour. Oasis said in a statement: 'We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. 'Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.' The Metropolitan Police have said that the man was aged in his 40s. Despite the tragic events on Saturday, organisers said the band's performance on Sunday would still go ahead. In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: 'A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. 'He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 'The stadium was busy and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage. 'If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101.' A witness told the Daily Mail: 'It was horrendous. 'The guy fell from a balcony. Paramedics came rushing over. There was a lot of screaming and shouting. 'It was a big fall. God knows how it happened. It was so tragic. I don't know how on Earth it happened. 'It was heartbreaking. He was only young.' The fall happened during the latest in a run of stadium shows for the band's sell-out Live '25 reunion tour – their first since splitting in 2009. A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: 'Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert-goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. 'Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. 'The police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. 'Tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned.'

Skint celebrities struggling to make ends meet – from soap legend getting loans from pals to singer who lives in her car
THE SKINT celebrities that are struggling to make ends meet - from Dawn O'Porter to Mischa Barton. Even if you have made lots of money, it doesn't always mean you're not going to run into money problems as these celebrities have found out. Mischa Barton The OC actress Mischa, 39, has had a widely-publicised battle with her former momager, Nuala Barton, over her money. In July 2015, she even sued her mother, alleging that she lied about how much Mischa was being paid for a film role and pocketed the rest of the cash herself. She's also struggled to make mortgage payments on her home in the past, at one point falling five months behind. Though she eventually sold the Beverly Hills mansion in summer 2016 for $7.05 million reports The BBC. Dawn O'Porter 8 Her husband is one of Hollywood's biggest comedy actors, but despite this, Dawn O'Porter has revealed she is struggling to make ends meet financially. The television presenter, 46, who has been married to Bridesmaids actor Chris O'Dowd since 2012, has opened up about her money woes. She expressed to MailOnline: 'I work pay cheque to pay cheque. I'm always broke. My card got declined last week. I'm like, what the f*** is happening? When will this end?' The Scottish writer and director has had a varied career, presenting several documentaries and shows including BBC's Super Slim Me and How To Look Good Naked on Channel 4. Meanwhile, Chris, 45, has starred in some of Hollywood's biggest productions, including This Is 40, Thor: The Dark World, Gulliver's Travels and St. Vincent. The couple have two children, sons Art, 11, and Valentine, who is eight years old. Wife of Hollywood actor claims she's 'always broke' and 'lives pay cheque to pay cheque' Lindsay Lohan 8 The Parent Trap's Lindsay Lohan had her bank accounts seized in 2012, for reportedly owing $234,000 in tax. Lindsay apparently sent her 18-year-old sister to haggle with second hand stores to make some emergency cash from her old clothes. Ali Lohan went to the vintage clothing store Wasteland to flog the singer's most valuable designer gear. Ali was seen arriving at the Los Angeles store with bags bursting with shoes, clothes and accessories. But she was reportedly shocked when she was offered a lot less than she was expecting. She tried another tactic to increase the value of the items by listing all the occasions her famous sister had been pictured wearing them. She went through items including a pair of Chanel pumps and a Balenciaga handbag, saying: "These have to be worth more, Lindsay was photographed wearing them, that has to add value." But the manager would not be swayed, and Ali had to settle much lower than she had planned. Her Scary Movie 5 co-star, Charlie Sheen, gave her $100,000 towards the bill and Lindsay now appears to have her finances under control. 50 Cent 8 50 Cent declared himself bankrupt in 2015, but said the move was a 'strategic' one, and not because he'd spent all of his money. He made the decision after he was sued for leaking a sex tape of Lastonia Leviston, who has a child with his rap rival Rick Ross, and didn't want other people to follow suit. He told US talk show host Larry King in 2015L "It's a move that was necessary for me to make at this point. "So I didn't allow myself to create that big red and white bulls eye on my back, where I become the person that people consistently come to." He still had to pay off debts of more than $22 million, though, with $6 million going to Lastonia for invasion of privacy. Shane Richie 8 Back in 2020, the EastEnders legend said the coronavirus pandemic hit him hard and left him begging friends and family for loans. Shane revealed how the pandemic and years of daft spending had left him "literally skint." At the time he was relying on loans from friends and family, and government help to pay his mortgage. He told the Mirror at the time: "I was going on tour, doing a TV series and panto but it all got cancelled in March. Now I am literally skint! "You save for a rainy day but you don't expect the rainy day to last eight months. Thankfully, I've been able to borrow money from mates, my family and the bank." He added: "I got rid of my car but only cos I lease a car for my wife for the school run. I can get around on a moped. "I am alright, I have had a career and if it all finishes tomorrow, so be it. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll do stand-up or resurrect a musical." Shane also revealed that he blew thousands on the strangest things, in particular Planet of the Apes memorabilia. He said: "It was my favourite show as a boy, I couldn't resist. It harks back to Christmases when mum and dad couldn't afford much." However, after his stint on I'm a Celeb and back on our screens in EastEnders, we are sure Shane's finances are in much better order now. Courtney Love 8 In April 2014, Courtney was hit with a $320,000 tax bill, as well as being ordered to pay $96,000 to a fashion designer she defamed on Twitter. Later that year, the singer told the Sunday Times, "I lost about $27 million. "I know that's a lifetime of money to most people, but I'm a big girl, it's rock 'n roll, it's Nirvana money, I had to let it go. "I make enough to live on, I'm financially solvent, I focus on what I make now." And back in 2021 according to official tax records, the Hole lead singer had five outstanding tax debts that have accumulated from 2017 to 2021. The iconic artist was hit with three outstanding Internal Revenue Service liens, totaling $1.9 million, while the rest of the debt was owed to the State of California. At the time, a clerk at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office confirmed to The Sun that all of the liens remained outstanding and were unpaid. Dawn Robinson 8 Dawn, found early fame in the '90s alongside Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones for their work as R&B group En Vogue. With seven Grammy nominations under their belt, the foursome are considered one of the most successful R&B girl groups of the past quarter-century. But now Dawn has revealed that she's been living in her car for the past three years. She has likened it to a 'camping trip' that's helped her feel more 'free.' The singer said in a recent video posted to her YouTube channel: 'You guys, for the past three years, I have been living in my car. "I said it, oh my gosh, it's out,' The Grammy nominee explained that she was living with her parents for a while in Las Vegas before the situation became unfavourable. She eventually moved back to Los Angeles after her manager suggested she move in with him for a bit. But the home was too small so Dawn ultimately resided in a hotel for eight months before deciding to research 'car life.' Following her search, the singer began living in her car in 2022 and said that she 'felt free.' She added: 'I felt free. I felt like I was on a camping trip. It just felt like it was the right thing to do. 'I didn't regret it. You know, a lot of celebrities have lived in their cars.' The singer admitted that though the experience is sometimes 'scary' she's learned 'what to do in my car and how to do it, like, how to cover my windows and you don't talk to certain people.' She explained: 'You're careful of telling people that you're alone, as a woman especially." Her candid confession comes weeks after her former band - En Vogue - announced that they would soon be embarking on a European tour. Cat Power Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall, better known by her stage name Cat Power, is an American singer-songwriter. She spent a lot of her own money on recording 2012 album, Sun. Then, when it came time to tour Sun, she took to Instagram to share some bad news with fans. She wrote: "I may have to cancel my European tour due to bankruptcy & my health struggle with angioedema. "I have not thrown in any towel, I am trying to figure out what best I can do." The tour was indeed postponed, with Chan later adding: 'The American tour has been wonderful and amazing, and with me being unable to afford to bring my show with full production (which i helped create), to Europe. "Financially, really dumped a huge additional amount of stress on me as I was and still am fighting trying to get tour support."
