Two people rescued from small plane crash in Long Island Sound
June 1 (UPI) -- Crews rescued two people aboard a small plane that crashed into Long Island Sound Sunday near a Connecticut airport, according to the FAA and U.S. Coast Guard.
The Piper PA-32 plane went down about 10:30 a.m. south of the Tweed New Haven Airport in New Haven, a statement from the FAA said.
"The two persons onboard the aircraft were rescued and in stable condition," the Coast Guard said in a statement, according to ABC News.
The Coast Guard dispatched a 45-foot New Haven-based rescue boat to the scene after the Sector Long Island Sound Command Center received notification of the incident from the air traffic control tower that the plane had gone down near the Thimble Islands close to Branford, Ct.
The rescued passengers were taken to the Stony Creek Pier in Branford, the Coast Guard said.
The FAA is investigating the incident.

Man missing after boat runs aground
Searches are under way to find a man who went missing after he entered the water to free a boat. Jason was last seen on the coastline near Napier Road in Poole at about 23:00 BST on Monday. Dorset Police said the 50-year-old, from the local area, had been on a cabin cruiser when it ran aground and he got out to try and free it. Officers said he had been wearing a green fleece material tracksuit with a hood and Nike Air Max trainers. Insp Robin Morgan, of Dorset Police, said: "We have been carrying out searches of the immediate area alongside the HM Coastguard helicopter and lifeboats to try and find him and would ask anyone who may have seen him or have information that may assist to get in touch." Three people have been rescued from the Atlantic Ocean in the dark after their plane went down several miles offshore off the coast of Florida, officials said. Officials from Air and Marine Operations, an operational component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, were alerted to a single-engine Cessna Skyhawk crashing down into the ocean on Sunday evening several miles offshore, according to a statement from of U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday. 'AMO crews immediately responded and arrived at the location, joining search and rescue efforts already underway by the U.S. Coast Guard, Indian River County Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Indian River Shores Police Department.'
