ED raids 8 places in J'khand in money laundering case against Yogendra Sao
The raids have been underway since early morning in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh and Ranchi, based on an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), official sources told ANI.
The raid pertains to the "generation of substantial proceeds of crime through activities such as extortion, illegal sand mining, and land grabbing."
Similar raids ED had conducted on March 12 last year at 20 locations in Ranchi and Hazaribagh related to Sao, Amba Prasad, MLA and their other family members and associates under the provisions of the PMLA in connection with a case related to criminal activities such as extortion, collection of levy, illegal sand mining and land grabbing.
During the course of the search operation on March 12, 2024, an unexplained cash amount of approximately. Rs 35 lakhs, digital devices, fake stamps from circle offices and banks, and various incriminating documents, including handwritten receipts and diaries, were recovered and seized. Evidence related to illegal sand mining in the state of Jharkhand was also seized during the searches.
"The proceeds of crime generated from such criminal activities have been identified to be acquired in cash and subsequently utilised for further business activities and for the purchase of several immovable properties," ED then said in a statement.

Industries seek swift action for Nashik airport expansion ahead of Kumbh Mela
Nashik: Four months after industries repeatedly urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other ministers to expand the Nashik airport in anticipation of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, state govt has not taken concrete steps, raising concerns among the industrial sector. A delegation from the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (Nima) met NCP MP and party's state president Sunil Tatkare during his recent visit to Nashik. The delegation requested Tatkare to take up the issue with both state and central authorities ahead of the religious conglomerate scheduled between 2026 and 2028. Tatkare held a separate meeting with Nima members to discuss the expansion of the Nashik airport terminal and the inclusion of Nashik in the second phase of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Attending the meeting with Tatkare were Nima president Ashish Nahar, vice-president and chairman of the aviation committee Manish Rawal, secretary Rajendra Ahire etc. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Tatkare regarding the matter. Association members said the airport terminal expansion would take approximately two years; therefore, they stressed on the immediate need to develop proper plans and commence work, considering there are less than two years until the Kumbh Mela. Nima vice-president Rawal said Tatkare assured the delegation he would promptly raise the issue with deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. Moreover, he committed to meeting the relevant Central cabinet ministers to facilitate the expansion of the airport. "We also requested Tatkare to pursue Centre for the inclusion of Nashik in the second phase of the DMIC. He assured us he would take up the matter with the ministers concerned in Delhi," Rawal said. In Jan 2025, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), which manages the Nashik airport, requested state govt to expand the airport amid a projected increase in passenger numbers during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. HAL submitted proposals twice in the last four months seeking the expansion of the airport terminal building and an increase in aircraft parking bays from the current five to 15. However, state govt has yet to initiate any action in this direction. Conversely, an industrialist noted during the meeting that state govt is allocating Rs 1,200 crore for the development of Shirdi airport, but has not made any decision regarding the expansion of the Nashik airport. Nashik airport, located at Janori, approximately 20km from Nashik city, was developed jointly by state govt and HAL at a total cost of Rs 94 crore in 2013 and 2014. State govt invested Rs 84 crore, while HAL contributed Rs 10 crore and provided land for the airport's construction. State govt has leased the Nashik airport terminal building to HAL for 30 years at a rate of Rs 1,000 per month. The airport's seating capacity is currently 300 passengers at a time, whereas during the Kumbh Mela, passenger footfall is expected to reach 1,000 per hour. Consequently, industries urge state govt to develop the Nashik airport ahead of the Kumbh.

Employee arrested for staging fake robbery, cash recovered from his friends
Kolhapur: An employee of a trader from Sangola was arrested for orchestrating a fake robbery and stealing Rs 12.8 lakh with the assistance of three friends, two of whom have been arrested. The trader entrusted the amount to his employee, 32-year-old Pramod Shinde, to purchase jamun from the Andhra Pradesh market. On the night of June 2, while en route to AP, the pickup goods van was stopped along the roadside after Shinde reported vomiting. As he exited the vehicle, a car containing three men arrived, assaulted Shinde, and used chilli spray on the van's driver. The assailants seized the bag containing the cash. Abhijeet Wadkar (25), the driver of the van, filed a complaint at the Umadi police station. "We immediately started suspecting the two. We learnt that Shinde was in touch with the three who came to rob them. Shinde made the whole plan and assured a share of the money to the three accomplices. We immediately arrested two of them and recovered all the cash stolen by them," said Sandip Kamble, the assistant inspector of Umadi police station. The men arrested are Siddheshwar Dange (27) and Toufik Maneri (35), both also from Sangola in Solapur district. The third suspect remains at large.

Soldier loses 40 lakh playing online game
T'puram: A city-based soldier lost Rs 40 lakh after playing online RummyCircle. The victim started playing the game as a way to make easy money, following the advice of his friend, who is also a soldier. The friend also lost Rs 25 lakh in the game, police said. He downloaded the application from Google Play Store and started playing the game. In the first rounds, he invested only Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000 and won double the invested amounts. As he got addicted to the game, he steadily increased the amounts as per the direction of its controllers. After some rounds, he lost a huge amount and to retrieve it, he invested a bigger amount. This continued, and he ended up losing Rs 40 lakh. "I have evidence in my hand to prove that it was a trap, as whatever we do, the accused know how to conquer the player," said the soldier. He said the accused also produced some documents to prove that they were authorised by the central govt to conduct such games. On his complaint, city cyber police began a probe after registering a case under relevant BNS sections.
