KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police have crippled a drug ring believed to be responsible for shipping ganja buds to Europe.
Acting Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director, Deputy Commissioner Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali, revealed that a series of raids in the Klang Valley led to the arrest of two men, a local aged 34 and a Chinese national aged 38.
"We seized 75.51kg of ganja buds, worth at least RM2.61 million," he said in a statement today.
The operation began with the first arrest at a coffee shop in Sepang at 5:25am on Wednesday.
The second suspect was detained at a house in Kota Warisan, Sepang, around 6:15am.
Shortly thereafter, investigators led by the suspects uncovered a rented house in Bukit Changgang, Banting, at 9:35am, where they found 144 packets containing the ganja buds.
The total haul was valued at RM2.64 million on the black market and could have been distributed to 151,000 drug users.
Police also seized RM25,327 in cash during the raid.
"Our investigations suggest that the two suspects are the masterminds behind the smuggling operation.
"Intelligence indicates they rented homestays as storage facilities for the drugs before shipping them to Europe," he said, adding that the syndicate has been active since January.
Both suspects have no prior criminal records and tested negative for drugs during urine tests.
The suspects are facing charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction, in addition to a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Authorities are also investigating how the Chinese suspect entered Malaysia.
Both men have been remanded to assist with further investigations, and police are continuing operations to locate additional members of the syndicate.

Driver arrested for drug use after Kluang accident
KLUANG: Police have arrested a personal driver who tested positive for drugs following an accident here. Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 40-year-old man was arrested at 6.30am on Friday (June 6) after testing positive for methamphetamine. Police nab two suspected drug pushers in Mukah
Police conduct a search on a suspect during the operation. MUKAH (June 8): Two foreigners, believed to be drug pushers operating in the Mukah town area, were arrested in front of a shop building in Jalan Boulevard Setiaraja, here at around 8pm last night. Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, in a statement, said the suspects were apprehended during an operation conducted by the Mukah District Police Headquarters' (IPD Mukah) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, following intelligence and surveillance efforts. 'During the operation, two male suspects were detained and searched. Police found three transparent plastic packets containing crystal-like substances were found on the first suspect, while one packet was discovered on the second suspect. 'The substances are believed to be methamphetamine (syabu),' he said, adding that the confiscated drugs weighed 10.30g with an estimated street value of RM1,150. Muhamad Rizal noted that the suspects, aged 38 and 54, were reportedly working as labourers at a palm oil plantation. 'They were taken to IPD Mukah for further investigation, with urine tests confirming negative results for drug use.' He said the suspects have been remanded for four days until June 12, and the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Woman arrested at Changi Airport check-in area for abusing public servant

She was arrested at Terminal 1 after the police received a call for assistance at around 6.25pm on June 6. Video footage of the arrest was circulated on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu on June 7. In the clip, three police officers can be seen pinning down an individual on the carpeted floor in the baggage check-in area in view of onlookers, including children. A woman can be heard screaming incoherently, while two bags can be seen near her in the area just below Terrace Chinese Kitchen. The Xiaohongshu original poster said the woman had brown dyed hair and multiple tattoos on her left arm and appeared to be ethnically Asian. She was seen hitting the self-service check-in machines agitatedly, said the user who wanted to be known only as Liew M. K. Some airport personnel, possibly security officers, had approached her to stop, raising a commotion, he added.
