Doncaster defender Wood wants to play past 40
Veteran Doncaster Rovers defender Richard Wood has said he is hopeful of playing on next season. The 39-year-old, who made his senior debut for Sheffield Wednesday in April 2003, made his first start since August in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crewe after returning from a long-term ankle injury. The Rovers captain is out of contract with the League Two side this summer and turns 40 in July."I want to carry on if I can and my body permits me," he told BBC Radio Sheffield."I want to see how I get on over the next couple of months and play as many games as I can. Hopefully I can impress the manager and stay in the team."If I can play on then brilliant. I want to play on into my forties."People are always telling me you're a long time retired so I am trying my best to stay on the pitch."He is the fifth-oldest player to have made an appearance in the top four leagues this season behind Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris, 41, MK Dons defender Dean Lewington, 40, and West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and Leyton Orient midfielder Darren Pratley, both 39.
Wood is looking to win the fifth promotion of his career this season, 20 years on from his first when he helped the Owls beat Hartlepool in the League One play-off final in 2005.He spent nine years with Rotherham and helped them get promoted to the Championship three times before joining Rovers in the summer of 2023.Grant McCann's side are fifth in League One with nine games to play, two points behind third-placed AFC Wimbledon with a game in hand. After recovering from an ankle injury that at one point looked like it could force him to retire, Wood believes his return to the team could have come at the perfect time."My two years here I had an injury with my calf so I didn't play as many games as I wanted to and then same this year," he added."Now I'm back I want to do everything I can to help us get promoted. It is tight but maybe I've come back at a good time where my experience might help."It's all to play for with just a few games to go. We've definitely got a squad capable of doing it."He added: "All footballers want to win and get promoted."I've got my two boys and they're obsessed with football and love what I have done in my career but I want to just do it one more time to look back on my career in a nice way."

Airdrie midfielder joins Coleraine as club pull in another undisclosed fee
The Diamonds have said their farewells to Lewis McGregor Airdrie have lost a second key player after announcing forward Lewis McGregor has completed a move to Northern Irish outfit Coleraine. The move comes hot on the heels of Ben Wilson's switch to The New Saints earlier today, in what was a club record fee for the Welsh side. Twenty-one-year-old McGregor joins for an undisclosed fee but the two sales completed today should give the Diamonds some cash to freshen up their squad for the 2025/26 Championship campaign. A club statement read: "Lewis McGregor has today completed a move to NIFL Premiership side Coleraine for an undisclosed fee. "Pacey forward McGregor joined Airdrie from Greenock Morton in January 2023, going on to notch 11 goals across 93 appearances for the Diamonds – including a memorable hat-trick in last season's 8-0 victory against East Kilbride. "As he makes the move to the Bannsiders, Lewis leaves with our thanks for his efforts and our warmest wishes for the future."

Kilmarnock announce second new arrival of the day as ex-Queen's Park midfielder completes move
The 25-year-old had signed a pre-contract agreement in January Jack Thomson has signed for Kilmarnock after departing Championship outfit Queen's Park. The 25-year-old arrives on a two-year deal having signed a pre-contract agreement with the Rugby Park club in January. He's the second new arrival of the day for Killie, following on from the return of winger Greg Kiltie from St Mirren this morning. Speaking to the club website, Thomson said: "Im really happy to be here. It's been a long time coming, I have known about it for quite a while now. "I signed the pre-contract in January so it's a long time thinking about things and itching to get going, it's a while to wait, but now I just can't wait to start pre-season this week." Thomson made 133 appearances for the Spiders since arriving in July 2021 and gets his first taste of Premiership football with his move to East Ayrshire. He added: "The club's got a lot of history. The team is always competitive, competing at a really good level. It just felt like a natural step from where I've been. I'm just excited to play with really good players at a really good level and see how well I can do. "My conversations with the manager have been really positive. When I seen he was announced, I was excited. You speak to the people you know in football and try to find out as much as you can and everything that was said about the manager was really positive. "And then obviously speaking to him, I have the exact same impression. So I can't wait to get on the pitch and be working with him." Manager Stuart Kettlewell added: "Jack is a player that I've inherited and I'm delighted that's the case. He is an ambitious player with great ability and I'm confident that he will fit right into our squad. "I've had positive conversations with Jack and I'm looking forward to getting to work with him and the rest of the players.'
