Four-star 2028 prospect plans to visit Longhorns in the fall

Over the last few years, the Texas Longhorns have done well at the quarterback position. They have been led by Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning while securing a commitment from Dia Bell, who is one of the top prospects in the 2025 class. They are looking to continue that trend and got encouraging news on Wednesday regarding Neimann Lawrence, a four-star prospect in the 2028 class. The Miami native revealed the list of programs he is trying to visit this fall, and Texas made the list. Their competition includes Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, and Georgia. That list could gain a few new names, the Longer Neimann stays on the market. He is seen as one of the best players at his position with plenty of room to grow. Currently, the Northwestern High School product is ranked as the fourth-best quarterback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 40th-best player in the nation. Due to stellar play, Neumann has also received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Colorado, and Arizona State. While the Longhorns have yet to secure a commitment from the 2028 class, they have been connected to some of the top prospects in the nation. The Longhorns have shown interest in four-star prospects such as Brysen Wright, Damarion Mays, Jack McNamara, Jackson Vaughn, and Jayden Wade. Adding any of those prospects would be a major recruiting win. As the battle for Neimann's services heats up, the Longhorns will be a team to watch. They have excelled at developing quarterbacks and are poised for a deep run of success in the SEC. That should make the Longhorns an appealing team. With the 2028 recruiting deadline still years away, Texas has plenty of time to convince Neimann that Texas is the best place to start his college career and win a national title. Leagues Cup Semifinals: Messi Back for All-MLS Final Four?

Leagues Cup Leagues Cup Semifinals: Messi Back for All-MLS Final Four? Updated Aug. 21, 2025 5:52 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link For the third year running, the Leagues Cup final will be an all-MLS affair. Will it also once again feature Lionel Messi? Despite a revamped format that was supposed to benefit Liga MX entrants, American teams dominated their counterparts from south of the border in Wednesday's quarterfinals, creating a Final Four featuring all MLS teams. Messi, who led Inter Miami to the title of the 2023 edition, sat out Wednesday's game against Mexican titans Tigres with an injury, but his former Barcelona running buddy Luis Suárez stepped up by scoring both goals in the GOAT's absence in the 2-1 win. Both Orlando City and the Seattle Sounders needed penalties to book their semifinals spot. Orlando – the sole MLS squad not to host their quarterfinal — outlasted Toluca, winners of Mexico's 2025 Clausura title in May. After a scoreless 90 minutes in Carson, California, longtime Peru national team goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was Orlando's hero in the shootout, stopping two Toluca spot-kicks and then scoring the clinching goal from 12 yards. ADVERTISEMENT Seattle survived against Puebla on PKs despite playing the final quarter-hour with 10 men after winger Danny Musovski was shown a straight red card for bumping Costa Rican referee Juan Gabriel Calderon while protesting a caution. Finally, the defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy topped Pachuca 2-1 in Wednesday's nightcap at Dignity Heath Sports Park, with former Germany international Marco Reus scoring one goal and setting up the other for the hosts, who have now won more games — four — in this Leagues Cup than they have during the first nine months of the 2025 regular season. They're now two more victories away from another trophy. Semifinals Inter Miami vs. Orlando City Sunshine State bragging rights will be on the line when the Herons host Óscar Pareja's side. Orlando, the 16th and lowest seed heading into the tournament's knockout stage, has already exceeded expectations by getting to this stage. All the pressure will be on Miami, who Messi led to the 2023 Leagues Cup crown before even making his MLS regular season debut. Adding to the intrigue, the Lions have taken both competitive meetings so far in 2025, outscoring Miami 7-1 in those games — including a 4-1 drubbing in MLS action on Aug. 10. Miami's power trio – Rodrigo De Paul, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez – are aiming for a trip to the final. (Photo by Chris Arjoon/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) For Miami, the obvious question is whether Messi will be able to suit up next week. The 38-year-old Argentina captain initially strained a muscle in his right leg in Inter's second first-round encounter, missing Miami's next two outings. He returned in typically spectacular fashion last weekend, but was then a surprising late scratch from coach Javier Mascherano's lineup versus Tigres. Having Messi available would be a huge boost for Mascherano & Co., even if it means holding the World Cup-winner out of Saturday's regular season match at D.C. United. LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders With three wins and just 16 points from their first 26 league games, the Galaxy own the worst record in the 30-team MLS. But the champs have been a different group in the Leagues Cup, and that run continued on Wednesday. Pachuca marked the fourth-straight Liga MX opponent that Greg Vanney's squad has vanquished, joining Tijuana, Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna. Three of those wins were in regulation, with the Galaxy out-scoring those four foes 9-4 on aggregate. Marco Reus and the LA Galaxy can make up for an abysmal year by aiming to win the Leagues Cup. (Photo by Liza Rosales/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images) Will they be able to fare as well against a challenger from their own league? The Sounders and Galaxy have faced off just once in 2025, and the outcome wasn't pretty for the Angelenos as Seattle routed the hosts 4-0 in Carson earlier this month. One silver lining for LA is that Musovski, who scored twice for the visitors that day, is suspended for the rematch. Kelly: Miami Dolphins banking on Jack Jones' evolution

Imagine a team putting together a minute-long highlight video of another player showing out in practice, and it subsequently showcases your shortcomings. That's how the Detroit Lions' social media team did Jack Jones last Thursday, embarrassing the Miami Dolphins cornerback while showing how dominant Amon-Ra St. Brown was during both team's first of two joint practices. 'Ya'll seen the tape, he cooked me,' Jones said Wednesday, nearly a full week after that embarrassing performance. The better question is why Jones, who joined the team after the first week of training camp because of Kader Kohou's season-ending knee injury, was the primary Dolphins cornerback covering a three-time Pro Bowler, who has produced 4,851 receiving yards and scored 34 touchdowns in four NFL seasons? The story supposedly centers on Jones and St. Brown's rivalry from their high school days growing up in California, and Jones' desire to work on some fundamental changes the Dolphins are hoping the 27-year-old can make to his game. It doesn't hurt that Kendall Sheffield is nursing an injury that got him shut down this week, and Ethan Bonner's battling a hamstring injury that might have him sidelined a couple of weeks. Those injuries put Jones front and center in Miami's young and experienced cornerback unit, which is searching for two new starters on the boundary after trading Jalen Ramsey and releasing Kendall Fuller in February. During Thursday's practice Jones showcased exactly why one of his former coaches labeled him a '$100 million talent who is his own worst enemy.' Jones pulled down one of the two interceptions the Dolphins corralled against Trevor Lawrence, stepping in front of an off-target red-zone pass.. But later in the practice he got roasted for a 45-yard pass from Lawrence to Brian Thomas Jr., which set the Jaguars up to score a potential game-winning field goal in that situational period, which began with Jacksonville trailing by two with less than two minutes placed on the hypothetical game clock. With Jones, a 2022 fourth-round pick who got kicked off Arizona State's team and got fired by the Patriots in his second season and by the Las Vegas Raiders this past offseason, you have to take the bad with the good. The Dolphins are aware of what they have gotten themselves into, but are seemingly banking on Jones' upside and willingness to change. 'I love Jack [Jones]. Jack to me is a juice guy. He's a guy that feeds and plays well off of energy, so when he makes a play, your defense is going to feed off of it and the opponents are going to hear it, too,' defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said. 'The one thing I love about Jack is some of the things we're asking him to do are kind of foreign to him, and really just aren't in his wheelhouse.' Weaver is referring to Miami's coaches forcing Jones, who is known as a zone cornerback, to press bump and run in press coverage. That's how Jones was mainly covering St. Brown last Thursday when the Lions star receiver was shake-and-baking him. However, in a real game it's likely that the Dolphins would have given Jones help over the top of St. Brown instead of leaving him by himself. And that's the value of joint practices, which presents a safe space for players and teams to work on things, unless a social media team needs to generate some buzz by showcasing highlights. 'I got better from that. I'm learning the technique I'm not used to doing,' said Jones, who has started 21 of the 42 NFL games he played in the past three seasons. '[St. Brown] made me better.' The Dolphins are trying to rewire most things about Jones' game, and it has been quite a humbling experience for the third-year veteran, who has pulled down seven interceptions in his career and returned four of them for touchdowns because of his knack for identifying and jumping screen passes. However, Jones' risk-taking ways leave him vulnerable on double moves and other slight-of-hand things offenses do to bait zone cornerbacks such as Jones. The Dolphins are laboring to make him a more diverse cornerback so he can become part of every game plan, or better yet, avoid becoming a target for opposing offensive coordinators. 'We're asking him to trust us in trying to build and add some tools to his toolbox,' Weaver said earlier this week about Jones, who allowed eight touchdown passes last season. 'I'm thrilled where Jack's at, and just know he's going to make plays for us this season.'
